We had a little impromptu Lake Erie Rendezvous this past Saturday & Sunday, some of the suspects present, Buckda on Gambler, Jerry on Spouter, Kingfish on Outre with Jimh crewing with him, and me on Home Aside, it was a little windy and threatening, but we got out there, some of us caught a few perch, and then Buckda and I camped out on the boats Saturday night. At the Marina We had a fish fry and met a few new friends who are as fanantical about VW Westy Campers as we are about are a few pictures Lake%20Erie%20Impromptu%20Sept%202006/

I gotta learn how to hold a perch for a photo in such a way as to make the fish appear as big as it really is!!

Nice photos Pat-

Dang it! I looked at the weather Saturday and chickened out on my plan for Lake Erie. By the time I was planning to go, it was raining buckets and I'm still wearing my canvas, so I opted not to go out.

Pat was kind enough to give me a heads up, but unfortunately, I didn't get it until today (Monday). Oh well, looks like everyone got through just fine. Maybe next time I can show off my yet unseen Outrage.

Roy -

I don't think you even have an're still running around Lake Erie with your 130 sport, aren't you???

It was indeed a great time - the perch tasted wonderful, and it was great to see the gang again.

Those guys in the Westfalia campers were great - we fed them Perch for dinner, they made us a wonderful breakfast of scrambled eggs with morel mushrooms...and talked our ears off! It's obvious that they have the same "sickness" we have, just a different focus!

What's up with the Westphalias? My father-in-law had one, just gave it away - on a whim. IT was very cool but rusty. What were these guys doing? Shaggin wagins

The fellow with the Green "Westy" Richard, owns a sailboat which he keeps docked for the season at Lake Erie Metro Park Marina, thus his presence with his other Westy friends, a good group of people....Check out the website for Michigan Vintage Volkswagon Club.....

Very funny, Dave. Either my Whaler grew four feet or my truck is shrinking, but either way I managed to use three gallons of DFI oil so far this Summer! From the pictures it looks like you were fishing near what I like to call the "Meat Hole" out there in front of Fermi. Did you catch "Blinky", the three-eyed perch? If so, I hope you threw him back; he's something of a local celebrity.

Yep - we were pretty much in front of Fermi - about 6 miles inside the Michigan state line/waters.

No sign of Blinkie...but I did later notice that the path to the head was a bit bright for the middle of the night, and I've been warm all week despite the dreary rainy weather we've been having ....perhaps that has something to do with it.

Do ya'll ever have nice weather on Lake Erie, or is it always gray & cloudy with icky water? Last 3 times I was up there it wasn't pretty...

And we never have nice weather on any of the other lakes either :)

Seriously, Erie is so shallow over near Detroit that it takes very little wind to whip up something interesting.

Sorry I couldn't make this one. I would've liked going back to Lake Erie for the second time.

Looks like you guys had a good time.

The perch really don't photograph well - always look smaller than what they are. I think it's due to their coloration and being able to blend in with their surroundings. Bet they tasted pretty good.
