Blue Angels will be performing at NAS Jacksonville, on the beautiful St Johns river from 27-29 OCT. I plan to make it a day on the water Saturday, 28 OCT if anyone else interested.

Do not know of a hotel in the immediate area with direct waterfront access, but there are multiple ramps to put in and hotels in Orange Park off I-295.

Too bad it was not this weekend as it was unseasonably warm weather this weekend (88 F), but we expect a cold front to pass through this evening. 10 day forecast calling for a more seasonal 71 degrees.

I would love to go but other commitments will prevail. How far is Willatka (SP) from Jax, I though there were some hotels on the water there. Weather service says it will be cold over the next weekend again which kinda takes the fun out of a long run in a CC boat. Some times I wish I had my WA back it sure extended my fun boating season.

It took me approx 3 hours to cruise from Orange Park south to Silver Glen Springs on Lake George. You could buy a bow dodger to create a forward shelter, but I changed to a WA from a CC to extend my North FL boating season comfortably. However, the winters are nothing here compared to when I fished the Chesapeake Bay in October through December.

Count me in. Not sure if Sandy will come, she has to study for her real estate exam. I can do it in a day trip, but if Nick wants to go we can stay over. We need more details....

Barring something unforseen, I am in. It gets growded on the river near the show so we will need to meet somewhere. Near The Landing is obvious or off Epping Forest. The Blue Angles are always a great show

For details on Airshow, see www.nasjax.navy.mil

Most of those whom responded, at least that I know, are coming from west of town. I would therefore recommend the following:

Ramps/Lauch Pt: Either Lakeshore Rd ramp on Doctors Lake or Black Creek ramp both on Fleming Island south of NAS JAX and I-295 on Rte 17.

I would avoid downtown ramps/area at all costs as this is also the same weekend as FL-GA football, aka "World's Largest Cocktail Party".

Hotels: Unfortunately, one on Fleming Island is still under construction otherwise ideal. None with direct waterfront access on this part of river. Therefore, I would recommend either the Best Western at I-295, Exit 11 interchange (Roosevelt Blvd-NAS JAX exit) or Fairfield Inn off Wells Rd. Nice accomodations, but suggest call for policy regarding boat parking.

what's your shcedule Frank? If it's too cold in the morning, then we meet around noon or is that too late. And is there time for a cruise/exploration for us that haven't been to the St. Johns before.

FNO, here is the Air Show sked:

9 a.m. Gates Open (Please SECURITY INFO); aircraft static displays open
10 a.m. First aerial performance
3 p.m. Blue Angels Fat Albert simulated Jet Assisted Take-Off (JATO)
3:15 p.m. Blue Angels
4 p.m. End of Air Show

It was 41 degrees this morning at 7AM, cold and clear. I have the advantage of the cuddy whereas you do not. We have plenty of time to let it warm up before the Blues are on deck.

My concern is balancing waiting for it to get warm with getting off the ramp and securing a parking spot. I suspect the early bird will get the worm. Personally, I am thinking of you the visitors, because I can launch earlier in week and tie up at the base. However, General public will not have access for their boats on base.

I am flexible on when/where to rendevous on Saturday. I also know a good Fish Camp with docks with fuel as well as food near my home ramp. So, we can bag the show whenever deemed desirable to look around at the local sites. I would think you might like to go down to the JAX Landing.

FNO and RJG, Final countdown guys....have you decided to day trip it or overnight? What is your preference for a rendevous time?

My recommendation: 10 o'clock at Knights Marina ramp at Black Creek on Fleming Island, directly off Rte 17.

Wx: Cooler temps have moderated slightly, however rain in forecast next 24 hrs. NWS Marine forecast calling for 15-20 kt winds, with moderate chop (2-4 feet) local and inland waters this weekend.

It'll be a day trip for me. Sounds like a plan. email me a cell # and I will do the same if I hadn't already to let you know if I run into issues.

FNO - You have mail! The Blues arrived overnight and practiced today. I don't have to worry about the decibel level of my OPTIMAX...it's cancelled out by the sweet sound of two GE F404 turbofans - THE SOUND OF FREEDOM!

Perfect flying weather. No sign of rain as evening commenced. It was warmer today and the chop on the river was nothing for an Outrage 21. This stretch of river is WIDE, so wind can dramatically impact wave height. Local Gas is $2.13 on average at most roadside service stations.

UUUH remember that disclaimer about unforseen circumstances? I had forgotten about the FLA-GA game and the people who will be at my house watching. I hate to bale on you (again). The weather forcast I saw called for 20-30 mph winds. We will be going to the show on Sunday instead. The St.Johns River will be a no wake zone from the Fuller Warren (I-95) bridge to the Hart (green) bridge. That is a long idle but a nice view of the downtown area. I live about 2 miles up the Arlington River which is just past the Hart bridge. I will catch up with you sometime.

RJG - Sorry you can not make it and thanks for the heads up.

FNO - The weather guessers on NAS briefed the pilots performing this morning rain in morning and strong winds Saturday. Small craft advisory expected. Regrettfully, I recommend cancelling Saturday.

Sunday is the better day, however I have work commitments. FNO, if you and RJG want to try for Sunday I honestly think it will be better day for boating. Unfortunately, I have work commitments related to the Air Show Sunday that will not allow me to boat the better day.

OK, I was getting cold feet anyway because of the wind over here. Might have to go cave diving, no weather worries underground.

Bad weather..no overnite plans. Would still like to do a Saint John's weekendend with y'all.

My wife hates the war machine...can't do an airshow and keep peace here.

Weather wise looks like the right call....jogged by Doctor's Lake and W-NW winds were gusting across the unsheltered water.

Most neighbors packing their tailgate supplies and headed off to the FL-GA game downtown. Unfortunate Wx was not better as I think the ramps will be far less crowded today.
It is going to clear up in time for the Blue Angels main event this afternoon.

We still have plenty of beautiful days left on the St Johns through Thanksgiving...they just always seem to happen in the work week!

What a difference a day makes. Sundays weather was phenominal, a true "Chamber of Commerce" day. Winds were dead calm with crystal clear skys. Temp in the mid 70s and the river was flat. The Blue Angles were spectacular as always. The 22 Revenge ran like a champ and handled the boat traffic with ease. I also got a few cool pictures.

But of course, because I could not get on the water. I did see the parade of boats after the show trucking south on the river as I crossed the Doctor's Inlet bridge. It was beautiful flying weather. I had VIP tix, so I was upfront and center for the show...kids really enjoyed it. I just would have liked a second day watching the show from the water. Today is beautiful too, but of course I am stuck in the office :(

RJG - If you ever want to hook up some weekend on the St John, let me know as I am local. I saw a similar Revenge on the internet listings for sale here in Jax...it it yours?

My schedule clears out in a few weeks (boys baseball) so lets get together. It was not my Revenge you saw for sale but I do have a sale pending for mine. I decided to keep my 18 Outrage. We need to start talking about an official St. Johns River rendezvous. There is so much to see and do on the river it will be tough to narrow it down to one area. Those with smaller boats may find the river a bit big.

RJG - Look forward to meeting you. Please look in profiles for my email address and email me sepcor. Perhaps we could hook up at one of the local pubs like Mudville Grille when Florida Lure Anglers meet or at Thrifty Outdoors or Strike Zone when they hold fishing seminars.

I know FNO and Whaler Ace would like to make a St Johns river rendevous this year. That's a minimum of at least four boats if the dates work out.

Some of other forum members have two whalers (one small, one large) and I agree with you the larger whalers are more suited for this big water. One reason I sold the Dauntless and went up to the Conquest. I do miss having it for getting up the ICW creeks. Two boats is beyond my reach, but I have access to my family's sweet Montauk 17 back home.

I here ya MM. 4-6 footers near shore here all weekend. Can you northerners feel our pain? Going to have to stay on protected water this weekend too until Sunday anyway;)
