What is it that they say? “When the gales of November come early…”? I guess that saying is about Lake Superior, but hey, this is brutal.

I’ll try to get some photos if I can keep my truck from getting sandblasted from beach sand down at the county park.

Sheesh. Quiet as a millpond one month, raging like the Sea of Antarctica the next. Can anyone say “moody”?

Dave,
It's a beautiful sunny day here. I think it's call the calm before the storm. There will be at least one freighter seek refuge in Suttons Bay if the winds blow. We have seen this bright yellow object in the sky for 3 days in a row. Thought maybe the sun decided to take a vacation or went south for the entire winter. Certainly it has been crap weather for the past 6 weeks.

How about a CW rendezous in Chicago this January? The Garmin store (on Michigan Ave.) will be open by then.

While goofing around with my son Ray late last night and my Crackberry he found the bookmark for the Northern Georgian Bay buoy at Britt and I noted the gale warning. Surprising was the no warning for the North Channel buoy. Good old Manitoulin must be protecting the area.

It does seem early for those Witches of November but the Fitz went down November 10th, an easy date to remember considering what the next day is, and the White Hurricane came through in 1913 on November 7th. Only 11 days away.

Stay safe.

"moody”

I remember some song from 30+ years ago about Moody Manatoba, not Manatoulin....

Martha - Garmin store opening in January? Damn. Gail and I are heading over to Chicago mid-November.

Don,
Gamin's website says that the store is opening Nov. 11th.
I thought January would be a good idea for a gathering, as hotel rooms are less $$$$ and it isn't as crowded. November is very crowded with shoppers that come from near and far on chartered buses. Two years ago my daughter and I were there the second weekend in Nov. Mich. Ave was so crowded you couldn't walk down the sidewalk. We ended up having lunch with her college roommate, then went shopping in the Lincoln Park area. On Monday, Mich. Ave seemed desserted.

We have gale warnings posted for Sat. & Sun. Local weather forcaster is saying that we should expect 40 to 50 mph winds and that travelers could expect the Mackinaw bridge to escort high profile vehicles and possibly shut down.

Let us know what the Garmin store is like.

Dave, you're not the only one with a change of plans...

SATURDAY
NORTHWEST WINDS 15 TO 25 KNOTS BECOMING WEST AND
INCREASING TO GALES TO 45 KNOTS. RAIN TAPERING TO SCATTERED SHOWERS.
WAVES 2 TO 4 FEET BUILDING TO 10 TO 13 FEET.

SATURDAY NIGHT
WEST GALES TO 45 KNOTS WITH GUSTS TO 60 KNOTS
POSSIBLE. SCATTERED RAIN SHOWERS...MIXING WITH SNOW LATE. WAVES 14
TO 18 FEET.

I heard the perch were biting in 14 feet of water. Perhaps betwixt the waves, I can just pick 'em up off the bottom!

I was out on Erie yesterday (briefly - on my way up the river to Lake St Clair). If you could FIND 14 feet of water. The wind blew about 4 feet od water from the West end. We couldn't get the boat back to the ramp. One more prop sacrificed to the lake gods.
