I will be in the Islands from December 1st through the 11th.

I would like to meet any of you that live in Oahu or Maui as those are the two islands my wife and I are visiting this time. Or, anyone else that happens to be in Hawaii during this time frame.
We are staying on Oahu for 5 days and then Maui for 5 days.

I know one member here lives on the big island, Hawaii, and it is unfortunate that we won't be visiting this island on this trip.

Please send me an email and maybe we can get together for a chat, lunch, or whatever.

I will be taking my brand new Macbook (Intel Core 2 Duo) with me so I can keep in touch.

Aloha.........

Pete,

Thanks for the info. Come on over and join us... :-)

I was there 40 years ago but this will be the first time for my wife.

We want to do some of the things you mention along with visiting the North Shore of Oahu to watch some big wave surfing. I surfed for 20 years when I lived in Southern California and I also surfed Hawaii 40 years ago when I was there.

I will be putting some short Quicktime movies together when I get back.

Something like my recent trip to the San Juan Islands in the state of Washington.

Enjoy your trip Joe.
I was stationed on Owhau while in the USAF from 1968 to 1971. I had the oppertunity to fly over the USS Arizona in a helicopter prior to the monument being built, what a sight. Our barracks were coverd with metal patches covering the bulletholes. Alot of history there.
Have been back on vacation several times but allways settle in Kona.

Joe - I spent time on your web site, awesome: I am pretty much anti-tourist stops and very independent and well traveled. I look for out of the way stuff with some action/adventure stuff.

Best tourist thing I think I ever did, was chopper tour of Kauai and hiking the Nepali Coastline to second beach (there are four, first one is enough). Years before I moved West and way before I went to Hawaii the first time, I was listening to a super popular radio talk show out of Detroit - WJR, JP McCarthy's Focus show. It used to run at noon.

One time he had this adventure travel agent on for like 45 minutes as I recall. He was the real deal and had been doing it for like 25 years. They talked about safari, climbing mountains, windjammer cruises, bareboating, trekking the Alps, big mountain skiing, whitewater on all he continents, big game fishing, beaches, exotic and on and on and on.

At the very end of the show JP, who was awesome, said - "Okay Bob (whomever), after all these fantastic adventures you described, if there was only one thing you would recommend that a listener should do in their lifetime what would it be?" and with no hesitation he said "helicopter tour of Kauai".

Years later, I never forgot that tip and considering all my adventures (including running the Rogue Memorial Day weekends with outfitter friends, Galice to Agness, rode with Court Boice up to Paradise with those 3 427 Fords hooked up to pumps and everything in between - that chopper trip was incredible, just like the man said.

We went in a Jet Ranger II but could have got in a Hughes 500 with no door on passenger side. I said if I was going to go I had to have front seat and waited for several hours. I skipped the Hughes because I got to ride in the front seat of the Ranger due to weight and balance. Ex military pilot ran the guts out of the aircraft and it was awesome.

These guys have big windows and Bose headsets - small outfit,

I found this link, they fly Maule fixed wing STOL which could be very cool.

I think we went with this guy

contender, Dick, WT, and Pete....

Thanks for all the tips.

We will try to do as much as we can fit in....

Just got all packed tonight so we are ready to go.
Next stop, the Islands.....

I will try and give any reports, time permitting...
I am taking my computer but I know how that usually goes for me. I am usually too tired after a long day of fun and sightseeing. Oh Well, someone has to do it..

If you and your wife golf, you have to play the Kapalua Bay Course on Maui. Or just drive through Kapalua on your way to some surf spots on the north side of Maui.

I usually stay on Kaanapalli Beach in Maui. The walk along the beach is pretty nice and you can stop into all the hotels/resorts there, Hyatt, Westin, Marriott and Whalers Village Mall.

Have fun, I was supposed to be there in November but couldn't make it.
