In 2008, it will be the 50th year anniversay of the whaler.

I was thinking how great it would be to organize a trip - and to go to some of the various places that the whalers were named after:

Montauk, NY
Newport, RI
Sakonnet, RI
Currituck, NC
Nauset, MA
Eastport, ME
Menemsha, MA
Cohasset, MA
Minot, MA
Katama, MA

At each port the lead boats could be the model that carried the name....

Maybe BW could sponsor some of it?

Maybe ACBS in 2008 in Mount Dora could have the Boston Whaler as the featured boat?? (I know they aren't partial to fiberglass - but if there were enought owner/members...).

Just some thoughts for over the winter - to keep the juices flowing.

Why not? We had the national Airstream owners rendezvous here two years ago and there must of been 10,000 Airstreams here from every vintage for a week. There were so many Airstreams they had to park them around the open space at the airport, school grounds and parks all over town. Real cool event actually. Many vintage rigs.

The interesting thing is they all had to be towed behind some truck or car to get here. Couldn't have made it otherwise.

So why not hook up and go to a 50th Bday Party for Whalers? guess all you have to do is figure out where to park and/or dock.

Maybe Whale has something in the is a year away. I will however put my money on a number of rendezvous from them, not one and/or a big shindig at Edgewater plant. Hopefully we can get a blue interior 130 sport in 2008 as well.

That event would certainly be an 'Outrage', the sheeer 'Sport' of so many Whalers in attendance would be a bold 'Conquest' that attendees could 'Rage' about.

Somebody else pick it up.......................

So far, all that I have heard from some "highly placed sources" is that they are going to do a special calendar, comprising a dozen or so user-furnished pictures during sent in during the next year.

All those puns are making my stomach TENDER. I'm going to VENTURA to a bar and smoke a NEWPORT to settle it down some. If not I will get my REVENGE from ya'll. When I do...I don't want to see anybody with a SOURPUSS.

enough, enough already, (smirk)

Any ideas on routes?
(I would immagine that Montauk would have to be the place to start or end).

If all they do is a calendar then I am selling my Montauk and buying a Grady White.

Knowing Whaler they will probably have a couple extra FL rendevous and call it good

While it is a great Temptation to attend, I doubt I can make the trip across country to an east port.

Let's all meet for an organized tour of the factory for the 50th.

A plant tour, is not what I was thinking about.

this thread is about thinking of having a trip to the areas the Whalers were named after. Maybe the mayor of Montauk, Katama, etc could come out and add to the festivities. They may want to have a town-wide celebration as well.

Does anyone know if in 2008 the Tall Ships are coming back to NY harbor, Green Port, Mystic? That would also make this an extremely memorable journey.

If you are going to dream - dream big.

Concur...I think it's pretty sad that one of the oldest (Nauset Marine) and biggest New England boat dealers (Russo Marine) have not stepped up on their own and volunteered to subsidize/sponsor anniversary events as the two Whaler dealers closest to Rockland, MA and most of the NE ports for which famous Whalers are named on this important anniversary!

Retail market is in a slump right now, but they've made a ton of money off loyal Whaler enthusiasts over the years.

I talked to that Will Rogers character at the St. Pete boat show and he told me that Whaler had no plans to produce any type of 50th Anniversary model resembling an earlier model. He indicated that the current models might get 50th anniversary decals, and that the 2008 rendezvous' will be hyped. Whaler supposedly wants 50 boats at each event.

I would like to see a new Montauk with a Nauset style wood console and RPS. And a blue interior of course.

phatwhaler out.

I plan on doing some more recon next month during my visit to Mecca.

Regarding a rendezvous in the Rhode Island area, there is already another thread in the Trips and Rendezvous section regarding a rendezvous (not Whaler sponsored, but a rendezvous just the same) the second week of July, 2007. The dates have been picked, 7/13 - 7/15, and more details in terms of places to stay, etc. will follow over next two weeks. We hope anyone interested will join those that have already committed.

Isn't this years dealer meeting in Boston? Maybe something is planned for it.

Someone going to the Boston boat show should shame Russo into sponsoring an event, whether Inabus' planned RI rendevous or an entirely new one. I would do it if I were back home. It won't be MarineMax based on their recent losses in share price!
