OK gang, it's time for an other get together even if just at one of our usual hangouts. Toss out a few ideas and we will run with one of them. Let's do it soon before the snow and ice melts up North. That way we can post some pictures for the snowbound to enjoy.

Its nice to put in up at Stephans in New Port Richey, drive out to the spoil islands outside of Tarpon Springs, Anclote Key. Hang out, drive south to Clearwater, and get a hotel there. Park the boat, walk to several restaraunts...

Beercan! I have not been out there since October I think.

Stephans sounds cool too but...since he has not been around and his e-mail is disconnected I say we make him drive down with that new e-tec. :) My fried lives in Holiday(just south of Pt Richey)and across the street is the ramp that is on the Tarpon River. My sister is coming down around the 22nd of Feb and we would LOVE to do that in a boat, grab lunch at the sponge docks, etc...thoughts?

If I have tow I a bringing the 13 so let's try and make it some place that our backs can handle...if not too much to ask.

I'd be interested in actually meeting some of you in person. Once you have a date and location I will try to make it.

By Beercan Island are you referring to Greer Island in Sarasota or Pine Key Island in Tampa bay? I have heard "beercan island" used for so many places. I haven't been to the one in Sarasota, but the beercan in Tampa bay is in my backyard.

google beercan island, you get results from everywhere.

I won't be home that weekend. Dammit!!!!!

The beercan The Judge is referring to is in Longboat pass, South end of Anna Maria Island.

I will be at Beercan this weekend weather permitting. I am JONESING for a boatride, have not been out in almost a month.
Erik 88Montauk posted 02-12-2007 12:31 PM ET (US)     Profile for Erik 88Montauk  Send Email to Erik 88Montauk
So Judge was at a Porsche race and an86Carrera (the name says it all). Is there some sort of trend here? Should we have a SW Florida Porsche and Boston Whaler club?

Please update me as we get closer to the weekend as I would like to try and make it (weather permitting). Although a good portion of the wood is off the boat right now and I was hoping to finish it up for the weekend, the boat may be somewhat naked.

How far is this beercan from Egmont? I know it takes me about an hour from EG Simmonds in Ruskin to Egmont pushing 30 (slow zones included). I suppose the option of towing to a closer ramp also exists.

The Judge posted 02-12-2007 01:17 PM ET (US)     Profile for The Judge  Send Email to The Judge
Beercan is about 15 minutes south of eggmont but....if you head right for the ICW from the skyway area it is probably about the same because you are not going so far west and water is calmer in the ICW. You can tow down to my house and we can drop in together. I am right off 75 in ellenton on 301 towards Palmghetto. I run right from about the 41 bridge on the manatee river to BC is less than an hour and mostly smooth running being a river.

Yes we both have Porshes and Jeep Liberty CRD's and Honda motorcycles but it was not intentional....just coincidental.

As far as the SW whaler club we alreay have one(GCBWOA) but I have been too lazy to oraganize anything since Sept or so when I started it.

Sounds good, I will confirm all with the boss later in the week. We aren't that far from you, we are right off 75 in Apollo Beach (just look for the smoke stacks). Looks like it will be "cold" this weekend with a high around 60.

Sorry, I don't have a Liberty or Honda bike, I do have a 99 996 though.

Len has a 99 Carrera 4 but he is too lazy to change his handle.

I sent you an e-mail Erik. Do you know Dave Neal who is on th Alafia River? If so I need to contact him.

Man I think we are going to have to cancel for saturday but we will see. Looks like cloudy, windy and high of 57. I don't mind because I have full enclosure but boating should be fun so why bother. Keep watching this forum or if on my e-mail list...e-mail me friday or early sat morning before 9am to make sure.

If we are all thinking about a west coast rendezvous...ya might want to post your thoughts, especially 2 days before one.

I love these rendezvous but the analogy between pulling teeth and organizing a Whaler rendezvous are starting to siamese.

Give us some input please...WHEN..WHERE..WHO...HOW..but we all know WHY don't we? I can't do this alone....I also should not post while drinking beer either ;)

Have a happy Presidents weekend Ya'll!

I can't get my boats out opf the shop, thanks to a load of dirt i had dropped off. My help backed out and it takes a long time to spread that out alone DOH! I'd still be interested in coming up sat or sun to get that top and compare props for that kicker motor.

I gotta make another lame excuse and bow out of this one. Got a fishing tournament in 2 weeks and going to pre-fish next weekend (at least I'll be on the boat). I need to get out though as we barely used the boat all summer and just now getting out in it again, in a local fishing club.

I was not looking for an apology. Just saying that many responded saying they can not attend. NOBODY offered an alternative so we can get the next ball rolling. Please offer some suggestions. Throw out some dats so we can all(or most) agree on a weekend.

Thank, Nick

I'll throw out Keywaddin again down by Marco Island. A lot more room, beer and food boat out there on the weekends, more "scenery",you can camp out there with no problems(always seems to be a breeze to keep the bugs down),the "Snook inn" and "Stans" is close by for a nice meal and live music. There's also some good water to make high speed blasts on for prop testing.

How about March 24-25 weekend. I am busy travelling the earth until then. It's far enough in advance for the rest of us to get the dirt pile moved.

This wouldn't be a Whaler rendezvouz, but I'm putting together a prop testing day together for my neighborhood and I may have some spots open. I've contacted a mobile prop testing company and they seem interested( for a fee of course). I havn't set a date yet, I'm still getting feedback from the neighbors. I'm looking at about three weeks. Anyone interested?

Beercan? come on now, give it a rest will ya Nick!-LOL

Pat's got a point, we had a blast up here in NPR/Tarpon, started on Cotee, out to gulf, back into anclote to Tarpon for lunch at sponge docks, south on intercoastal, to CLWR.spent the night. Pat, Mel was just asking about name of that motel, we'd like to do it again.

better yet, for a real bash, the chasco fiesta boat parade, here on the cotee, is 3/31- make an event out of it? I'm having party anyways, might as well make it a whaler event.....

email should be updated, here on site.

You said that last time Frank and we did the Suwannee river in October and had 5 boats. Where does EVERYONE want to meet so we can get a dozen or more? I just took my 13' up the Braden river yesterday, what a nice relaxing cruise which we could do. There is only 1 restaurant on the river(Linger Lodge) which is great and plenty of parking.
an86carrera posted 02-20-2007 04:09 PM ET (US)     Profile for an86carrera  Send Email to an86carrera
Linger Lodge is a fun place to visit. Can you get up there with a T-Top?

Not unless you get up enough steam to jump the dam. The last time I was at Jig's Landing the biggest thing I would try to launch there would have been a 15'.

Forgot about the dam,damn.

The Judge posted 02-21-2007 12:22 PM ET (US)     Profile for The Judge  Send Email to The Judge
The only way to get to the Linger is to trailer it to Jig's landing which is now a county boat ramp and parking lot. I have launched my 17 there with no problem and I don't see why you could not launch a 25'. Water is deep and there are no bridges so yes a T-top will make it. There are no HP restrictions either though most is SSNW zones. Main problem is no beach being a river and resevoir.

Not a great place for a rendezvous but would be a blast with a few boats that are local.

Bring a BIG sheet of plywood Len and you could jump the dam.

I have no problem if we do Beercan to get more people involved. i just don't want to stand around on the beach all day LOOKING at my boat while drinking heavily. Combine it with a cruise to somewhere/nowhere would make it more interesting. Cruising someplace to eat is also desirable. North or South on the ICW has got to have some diversions. Isn't there even one topless joint on the water? If so, that is just plain Un-American. We'll just have to get Stefans girlfriend(they always have nice breasts) drunk again and hope she doesn't dump him at the end of the day(it's happened before). By the way, Stefan your on deck for the cigars. I'll have a La Gloria please....
InHerNet posted 02-21-2007 08:54 PM ET (US)     Profile for InHerNet  Send Email to InHerNet
We should try Venice / Nokomis area sometime. There is a island by the jetty called Snake Island that gets a lot of action. Somewhat like Beer Can only you are not looking at the bridge. You can grill out or there are plenty of restaurants on the water. The water is shallow on one side of the island enough to anchor and walk around in knee deep plus water.

we had a good showing at homosassa a few yrs back.....maybe a little too far N, what about St Pete, tons of action on the intercoastal, bars, restaurants, ...

also frank, the Cotee, where I'm at there's a hooters omn the river, not topless, but just close your eyes, it'll be fine

I hear ya Fank...it is boring but it seems to be strategically placed for some reason. I loved the Suwanee but was amazed we only had a few boats. Homosassa would also be great but I say Stefans and we hit Hooters(been there, it is nice and I think the original one). We could even drop in by my friends(river where the sponge docks are at in Tarpon?) and cruise the Gulf a few miles north to Stefan's river.

When?

Anclote River is where the docks are.

why not 3/31?- boat parade is that day on the Cotee, part of the Chasco Fiesta ( huge festival/party downtown New Port Richey, and on waterfront). like I mentioned earlier, I'm having a gig here anyways (yes Nick, a keg!). Whalers can tie up to my dock, and two of my neigbors docks
boat parade is like from 1 -3 or so , so we can do a fishing trip earlier, and after parade, out to anclote sandbar for sunset cocktails. Sunday am another gulf run?
And I'm sure we can hit hooters for frank at some point... also can hit Anclote river (next river S from me, to hit sponge docks at Tarpon....

there's a few chain hotels on 19 just off Main St ,new port richey, no problem getting people there-10 min from house- boats will be safe overnight at docks...

Believe it or not most of our local rendezvous in the past where comingled with the SeacCraft crowd. That was until Trayder became a Traitor and sold his Whaler. He know runs a very nice website called www.classicseacraft.com. Unfortunately for them, only 0-2 boats ever showed up. They are a hell of a boat with almost as whacky of a following as Whaler owners. Their history is pretty good with Potter and all.

Unfortunately....they sink!

Maybe I should blow off the Charleston gig the weekend before and bring the Whaler. My brother and I will be on Long Boat May 20th on a 2007 Key West, hopefully fishing with a friend from Palmghetto. What are you talking about Mike? Brian's sunken SeaCraft?

I am in the midst of changing offices so I do not have time to think about this just now.

I thought Charleston was in early April?

zotcha posted 03-01-2007 04:17 PM ET (US)     Profile for zotcha  Send Email to zotcha
Nick, RELAX man. Yes I was referring to the picture of Brian's boat. Like every boat owner, I hate seeing one resting on the bottom of a lagoon, and particularly a SeaCraft.

The Charleston gig is scheduled for April 21 and 22nd.

Another prime example of written versus spoken word.

Hope you are just about out of work now...sounds like one heck of a day. Having one for you. Mike.
