Chesapeake Whalertowne is having their event at Kent Island again this year on June 6. You can check out info at Chesapeakewhalertowne.com. Last year was really rough water and rainy, sort of soured my friends on going this year, but you never know! I still haven't won one of those Whaler punchbowls yet!.....................Jack

I stopped by Whalertowne Tuesday on my way home from a conference on the other side of the bay. Scott gave me a Demo Days broshure and application. I filled it out and put it in the mail the very next day.

It's going to be a very busy 'Whaler Weekend' especially for those of us who plan on working the Chesapeake Bay Swim on Sunday.

I may try to make this Rendezvous if scheduling works out. I've never been to a Rendezvous and for some reason the http://www.chesapeakewhalertowne.com/ site does not work. Is there an itinerary available?

I think that the family and I have decided to go to this event. Where is a good place I can launch from to have a nice little trip to the event?
Thanks
Matthew

Try putting in at the Wye Landing. Its about a 15 mile trip around Wye Island and up the Eastern bay to the event. A nice free ramp. Local color also.

Actually I was speaking to a someone at the Whalertowne and they suggested Sandy Point State Park. I could cruise right across the Bay. I will do that if the weather is decent. Plus I think it would be fun looking up at the bridge!

BADAZGN,

You can also drive across the bridge and put in on Kent Island. You can still cruse around but if weather kicks up late, you don't have to face pounding across the bay, which is no fun at all.

There are quite a few ramps on the Eastern Shore, just about all of them are run by the various county's Parks and Recreation Depts. There is a nominal use fee. Most boaters get a yearly decal ($10 - 25). Reasionable enough. There are day passes available. Follow this link to information regarding Ramps, Maps, and fees.

See you at 'Demo Days'

Thanks, I will see how the weather is that day. If I go across the bay or just 500 yards! LOL
I would really like the chance to go under and around the bridge. Would be fun for the family.

I have sent in my regristration and am looking forward to the event. This will be my firt time for something like this.
I look forward to meeting some new people and seeing some great boats!

Just to let you know that if you put in at Sandy Point it is not just a simple ride across the bay, it is probably close to 15 miles around. You have to go way north to Love Point and then into the Chester River and through Kent Narrows. If the wind pipes up you will not be very happy. You would be much better off to use the ramp in the narrows.

Thanks for the info? Is there a specific link to that ramp to use? I will be trailering my boat from Central Va. So I am really clueless as to where to go and the best way to do it. Thanks for the help.

Bad....look up ramps on the internet for Virginia....they should ahve all the info mapped out with types of services....

We have used a lot of different ones over on the kent narrows side of the bridge as well as Sandy Point state Part..whcih will give you a nice ride under and across the bride and a really nice launch site and paek to take in...

WAs just there last week sat. doing vessel inspections for the CG AUx...Ill do them for anyone who wants one done at this event...Mac, Ill take care of you at the Potomac swim...as well as others

Yid,
Thanks, Ramps in Va would be way to long of a trip. People have shown quite a bit of concern about the crossing the bay so I was thinking that closer to the event may be better.
ALl thoughts and opinions are appreciated. If the bay got too ruff, Might be able to get a lift over the bridge to pick up my truck and trailer? LOL

Thanks all for helping!

Matthew, I'm sure Henry meant to say "Maryland". I think he was probably referring to http://mddnr.chesapeakebay.net/fish/state2.html . The Kent Island ramp is at Piney Narrows, http://mddnr.chesapeakebay.net/fish/rampquery.cfm?Facility=QA007 . Note that a permit is required here, I believe it's a county permit that you can pick up at one of the nearby bait-and-tackle shops for a reasonable cost (for a 1-day pass). I've also used the Goodhands Landing ramp, which is a nice quiet secluded spot, but with not too much parking.

Sorry folks, but I'm not going to make this one. See you at the Potomac and/or Chesapeake Bay swims!

Thanks for the help, I guess I'll use the close one. I was really hopeing that crossing by the Bridge across the bay wouldn't be too bad.

We had a great time as well. The staff was very nice. I got to ride on a 32 Outrage Cuddy. What treat! The gift bags were awesome. However Sunady evening my dog got into the bag and tore up a shirt, hat and the towels. The wife and I are so bummed. Plus this is something he has never done!

Anyway, I am glad I made the trip, plus brought the boat. there were some great classic boat. A near perfect 61 Nauset and a flawless 76 Revenge. Real treat to be able to see them.

Matt

You may want to call over to Chesapeake Whalertown. They may have a few extra t'shirts. They are great people to deal with.

Thanks for taking a look at my Nauset.
