Just got word from Karrin Scott @ Whaler concerning the REVISED Whaler Rendezvous dates for this year. They are as follows:May 18 - 20 -- Sarasota,FL Jun 08 - 10 -- Stuart,FL Jul 12 - 15 -- Bimini The change was in the Stuart date so that Janis could attend, and not be in the Bahamas. Thank you, Whaler folks! We were able to change our reservations at the Monterey Inn, but I wouldn't procrastinate if you want to stay there. -- WhalerAce

Mr. Ace:Is that the motel across the street? How was it? roaches? bedbugs? sticky shag, carpet? |

TL,Yes, it is under the bridge and across the street. The hotel is real nice, I think. They have put in real tile floors, new crown molding, and GOOD air conditioners. It's no four-star, but it is clean and comfortable. See you there ?! -- Ace |

Yes, they have dockage. But why? Marine Max will put it on the trailer for you for the night... We always hang out at Marine Max until they throw us out for the night anyway... |

They won't put my boat on the 'trailer' since it's a big fat heavy 255 Conquest and sits on a triple axle that has never seen water and gets slung on and off. We're coming up by boat and fishing our way up from Jupiter overnighting at the Monterrey and fishing back down on sunday. The docks at the Monterrey look at lot more peaceful than Marine Max's. |

TL,Just the opposite. For the weekend, the Whaler group "owns" the docks, so it is just our group using int. The Monteray docks are fairly shallow coming in, so unless they give you an outside slip, you will be stirring up a LOT of mud -- we did in the Temptation. MM's docks are REAL QUIET once supper begins at about 7:00PM. See you there! -- WhalerAce |

Marine Max could sling a 255 Conquest into the water. They keep 40'-45' Sea Rays sitting around the lot on stands, and they have a travel lift on-site. Then again, since you are only in Jupiter with that beautiful boat, enjoy all the no-wake zones in Hobe Sound. If it weren't for those, I'd run my boats up from North Palm Beach. Ace is right about the sand bar off Marine Max Stuart. Stick VERY close to the bridge between Palm City and Stuart as you enter from the Okeechobee Waterway channel. You'll see privately maintained aids to navigation within 75' of the bridge, and you want to stay between those and the bridge! Ace, did you forget that the mangrove side of the north floating dock at MM is reserved for my 15_Rage which requires almost no water to float? |

I know that area very well, however, We'll be fishing our way up going out Jupiter & coming in Stuart with the FIRST place pelagic!I remember the sticks placed along the bridge as the nav-aid. |

Went by Marine Max yesterday by boat doing some work, and an empty barge with tug headed northbound through the bridge there, proceeded to do a 180° turn immediately after the bridge, and appeared to be attempting to run the barge into Marine Max via that little channel!! At first, he hung the barge on the sand bar as he did the 180, but after that, he was pushing up river as if to miss the first marker and go into marine max! I was stunned... Especially when thinking about Ace's comment of digging up mud with the Temptation. |

Whaler Ace - I-10 and I-75 near Lake City were closed yesterday due to our drought induced wildfires. Detour takes you on Rte 301, but you remember from Suwannee the joys of that route! It's longer, but if you want to remain on Interstate throughout, you might want to consider I-95 to Daytona and taking I-4 West through Orlando. That route has it's disadvantages too but all Interstate. Some rain today, so we are hoping this helps our tired firefighters. Call or email me on what time you think you are passing through on Thursday. |
