I will be in LA on the week leading to May 12. I'm getting ready to book my travel arrangements (tomorrow) and was wondering if there was anyone in the area who might be interested in showing me around the waterways a little. I'll pay for gas.

Interested in a morning trip that could have me back to LAX by mid to late afternoon for a return flight home.

E-mail me (in my profile) if you'd be interested in helping a forum member out.

Disclaimer: I've not yet been on the water yet this year (too cold up here and the winter projects aren't yet done). I'll try not to drool too much.

Weather permitting, of course, and I'll gladly return the favor to folks who find themselves in the Southern Lake Michigan region on over-the-weekend travels.

Regards,

Dave

Just wanted to post my thanks to forum member sternorama for the wonderful hospitality this morning in Long Beach.

I'm at the airport returning home and reviewing my photos. What a great area for Whaler watching! I lost count there were so many in the area.

I will post more when I have the time - but I wanted to say thanks and underscore just how great the forum membership is. Not sure where else you can hitch a 40 mile and four hour boat ride with a "stranger" in a 1968 16'4" Whaler I but you can count on that from the folks here.

Gary - remember there is an 18 Outrage waiting for you on Southern Lake Michigan if you ever are in the area.

...good times, good times. I'll email the pictures of us running that are on my camera (maybe I'll post a link here, whadayatink?). That was pretty cool how you balanced on the forward rail at 40mph to take those pictures..! Sorry for the lousy weather (it dipped down to 68)-maybe we'll have some sunshine next time.

Gary -

I've been digging out all day under a pile of work that seemed to accumulate while I was out there in LA (working there too!)...anyway..I should have some photos for you as well which I will send either tonight or tomorrow for you...

...hopefully they'll help your wife understand what a cool favor your did for me.

Sorry for squealing like a kid when the porpoises came close. ...we generally don't have "fish" that size on the Great Lakes...and if we do, you don't see them!

Very cool (as in neat) morning on the water, and I can't begin to say how much I appreciate the ride in your 40 year old classic.

Firsts on this trip for me:
Kelp beds in real life.
Sea Lions in Real Life.
Porpoises in front of the boat and swimming alongside.
Pelicans in real life.
A Conquest 370 in real life (on the water)
Tons of modified Whalers in forms and creative uses that I'd never seen before (You Californian's are a creative lot).
First time on the Pacific...first taste of Pacific salt water and first real experience with "ocean swells" - although those were rather calm on Saturday.
Very cool. I want to tow my 18 across the country to explore further.

I'm off to buy a Mega Millions ticket to make that possible....
