My wife, Nancy, and our son, Dan and I got talked into joining friends for a week of houseboating on Lake Shuswap, BC. I am having difficulty getting specific information about the lake.I am wondering if there are CWers who have boated on the lake and have suggestions about where to go and what they liked to do.

Also, the maps I have found don't give enough information on distances, so it is hard to figure out how long it will take to get to the different arms of the lake. The max speed of the houseboat is 7 mph. I am one of the designated pilots for the trip.

I have pulled our boat to the West coast before, but this is a different situation, so we will be Whalerless for the week we are there. The closer this trip gets, the more I regret not taking our boat along. We could see and do a lot more on the lake with something faster than a boat going 7 mph.

The Shuswap Lake arm leading to Sorrento and the Salmon Arm are the most populated. The Seymour Arm and the Antsey Arm have less cottagers and generally are quieter.

On the map at this link you'll be leaving from the town of Sicamaous probably.

Highway 97 south on the map leads to the Okanagan Valley and the towns of Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton. A very pretty area but also very populated nowadays. Good wine country.

BTW I spent my first anniversary with my wife "Nancy" boat camping all over the system...20 years ago.

Here's a better map. You can download it and/or click on each grid to enlarge.

Our trip starts and ends in Seattle. This is our first time back since we attended the Whaler event in 2001.

One of our group just moved into his new home on Lake Union. He has the distinction of designing and building a houseboat that is now part of the houseboat fleet on the lake.

I will be looking for the Whalers on the lake.

Anybody got a small Whaler I could borrow or rent for a week? We have tow vehicles.

I have a 16SL I will loan you if you Seattle folks want to do a mid-West visit or trip!
