Third time is a charm. Trying again to put something together for the week of 8/25 thru 9/3 at Corsons Inlet in Strathmere NJ. Last year cancelled due to hurricane, spring cancelled due to last minute commitments. I will be in Ocean City from 8/25 thru 9/4 in Ocean City with the "Slippery Eel". I will be moring at All Seasons Marina in Marmora and looking to get together with any other South Jersey CW members. I know Devil Dog is in the area and was interested.

Let's make something happen..

Hutch

I would never presume how someone should do their thing or spend their money. However, a well timed ad in a few of the local So. Jersey papers and faxes to several marina communities might help with your planned rendezvou.

Papers like: Cape May County Herald & The Shoppee.

saw this thread in gen. forum

Looks like I will miss you in Strathmere.

My dad lives there full time, hes been a permanent resident since the 80s, I spent most of my summers as kid there too.

Spent lots of time in the water in other folks whalers. One guys I knew, we use to fly through cheesmans creek in his 13 footer.

I bought a 70 katama last year and I will be trailering it to Strathmere from Va. to spend the last week in Sept. Know its off season but fishing will hopefully be better.

Hey Hutch.
Yeah. I'm game. Unfortunately, Every time I've tried to get together with CW'ers there's either a hurricane or a family member in the hostpital. But like you said, maybe three's a charm. I plan to be down all weekend so whichever day you like is good for me. The last hurrah before the dreaded soccer season.

Jeff

By the way, I now have your cell # in my phone.
;)

I am keeping my fingers crossed that no atlantic hurricanes pop up in the next 2 weeks like last year as well.

Weather dependant lets plan on Sunday 9-2 @ 1:00 PM. Tide will just be turning out and there will be plenty of water. Plan on beaching on the Strathmere side of the inlet (walking distance to the deauville beach bar).

We can coordinate any contact numbers next week as I won't have my computer with me on vacation.

I live in down in Cape May. I will see if I can trailer up to you. I'd like to check out other boats. Hopefully weather will be perfect.

Awesome. OldManWhaler, I have made the trip from Cape May on the ICW in my Montauk on a few occasions. Lot's of Scenery between those 2 spots. Hope to see ya there.

OldManWhaler,

You could probably make the run by boat in an hour and half one way. It's all ICW and well marked.
Either way, hope to see you there!

The sun is back!

See ya there.

Well, we finally got together. John was there with his showroom 1979 Montauk, showing off his sweet new aluminum fuel tanks and generally putting my 1980 22' Outrage floating beater pickup truck to shame. Hutch's Montauk (Slippey Eel) can be summed up in three words. Byoo tee full.

Dunk the Surveyor showed up briefly in his very functional 17' Mako. (I like that boat too!)

What our rendezvous lacked in membership sure was made up for in sightseeing opportunities (both manmade and natural) provided by the many other visitors to Corson's inlet that day. There were some great looking sinkables, a few classic and post classic Whalers and some of the finest of God's creations ever to grace the engine cover of a Donzi.

Now that we've got it started, hopefully we can make this an annual meet and get some more participation.

Is there one? Where and when? I always thought there was a diproportionately large nunber of Whalers in Strathmere. After navigating Corson's Inlet I think I understand why. It appears to be the perfect boat for that crazy shallow inlet. You really need a small, shallow draft, seaworthy boat in Corsons.

Podosky,
Go to the Rendezvous section in the moderated discussion areas.

You are right about Strathmere and Corson's Inlet. That is really Whaler Country. Jschmidt and I had a similar discussion last year.

podosky,

What dock are you on at All Seasons. I am usally on 'B' dock either right at the bottom of the ramp (B-0) or in the middle near "tonys toy" another 17 Montauk. I'm puttin in on the 25th. Hopefully we can meet up at the Dock. The rendevous is going to be on 9-2 @ 1:00.

I am in slip B2. I am there now but I will be pulling out on 8/26/07. Unfortunately I will not be here on 9/2. Hope to be back on some weekends in the fall for some striper fishing.

Are you guys going to meet at the end of the inlet and put the boats up on the beach? I have a 15' Dauntless and may be able to make it.

How did the rendevous go? Unfortunately, I had mechanical problems with my tilt/trim switch on the outboard and could not make it. Maybe next time. It's fixed now. Man, was that part expensive: $52 for a little switch.

Only 2 of us that day. Myself and Devildog. Ran into Dunk on his Mako as well. Saw at least 20 other whalers crusin the inlet. If they were on this site we would of had quite a gathering.

It was crazy on the Strathmere side of Corsons that day. I have never seen it so crowded. When I left there were boats anchored 3 deep off of the beach.

Had a run in with Baja who insisted that the spot I was saving for Devildog for 2 hours was his for the taking. "I told the guy I was saving it for my buddy who was 2 minutes away and he kindly replied "I don't see your name on the slip" I thought here we go it's gonna get ugly quick. After a few more kind words from him, his crew and his not do hot bikini crew Jeff pulls up to my rescue.

Gotta love philly :)

I was really nice meeting Jeff and his family. That's what I love about this site. It puts you in touch with really nice folks you would probally never meet.

Next year we need to get there early with a big "Whaler Only Parking" so we can seperate the go-fasts from the smirks.

Looking forward to next year.

Hutch
