I think it looks like a great place and something different. We have done about 4-5 annual Stuart trips but since they have moved to the Keys, why not? What do ya'll think? I am thinking May 17-18 or June 7-8 or 14-15. Pipe in and let us know who wants to go.

This is a post from CW emmeber Brain7son:

Okay, just tossing ideas out there and I dont mind if they are nuked. Anywhere from Port Canaveral to Ft. Pierce works for me. Try this. The Lexington Hotel, Indian Harbor Beach, FL. Rooms are about 90.00 per night. It is directly across the street from Telemar Marina, which has slips and a gas dock. There is a public boat ramp about 1 mile away and a 7-11 across the street(for beer/ice runs). The hotel has a huge parking lot that can accomodate multiple boats on trailers. It has a pool and a tiki bar and a casual restaurant that has chicken wings and cheeseburgers next door. This is located near Dragon Point, in S. Merritt Island, FL. where the Indian river Lagoon and the Banana River meet.

This place is about a 8 mile trip on the water from the spoil islands in the Indian River Lagoon. A fun place to beach boats or anchor and raft off for the bigger boats.

This "was" Dragon point, before the 04 hurricanes tore up our beautiful landmark.

Stuart and Sarasota are NOT being held this year so we have to do what we have to do. The only Whaler events are Bahamas/Bimini? and Islamorada(Check Whaler.com for dates in June). The keys is great but no way am I going to try and roundup folks for that one...too far for most of us(I'm 6+ hours).

Brian has also suggested the Ft Pierce area which hotes with slips are plentifull as well. Let's make a date and a location. Either spot is good for me and May sounds better being some may be attending the Bimini event on June 19-2?.

FYI:

I called the Lexington Hotel regarding group discounts. She advised me that their usual rates range from $85.00 to $129.00 per night. However, they would give us a group discount. She said that she would need to know the dates to see what type of availabiity they have.

If we decide on that location, I advised her that we would try to get back to her with dates. Aside from being across the street from a marina, they are also across the street from Oars & Paddles Park. A lot of college crew teams book the hotel because of the park and ease of access to the Indian and Banana rivers.

College is out for summer at that point so should'nt be an issue but the sooner the better and I think a block of 8 rooms is usually the norm. Al-A-Buy better get a kitchen pass for this one or we are coming to his house...Hooka and burnng torch in hand.

May 17-18 works great for me. That is the weekend before Memorial Day. However, if you guys wanted to do Memorial Day weekend, that also works. It's nice to have that extra day.

Most people have a bunch to do on the holidays so I NEVER plan a gig on them. Travel/traffic/hotels/etc are a pita...Just FYI.

WhalerJoy and I are going to be in Fort Walton Beach from April 3rd to about June 25th. Sign us up for any weekend. We are only going to bring down the 15', so is what you're talking about accessible by a Whaler that small?

Thanks,

--- WhalerAce

There is no issue with smaller boats.

RE: Dates, how are we looking. May 17/18?

I just got an email from Karen & Scott, from Oveido, FL. They have a 26 Conquest and plan to attend. I am awaiting replies from 2 other friends that have new 285 CQ's.

So far we have:
Tohsgib, WhalerAce, Karen & Scott, myself and Angela

I am awaiting replies from John and Roberta and Mike and Connie.

Anyone else in for the May 17/18 Rendezvous? For those of you unfamiliar with the area, it is located in Indian Harbor Beach, FL. This area is on the Indian River Lagoon and the Banana River, where the 2 rivers meet. It is about midway between Port Canaveral and Sebastion Inlet. It's a great place to go night fishing for snook and redfish as well.

Since nobody chimed in...make it the 17th then. If anyone objects...you had 5 days.

I have never boated in that area, and would like to go on this one. However, we will have just returned from Barcelona and do not know how much money will be left in the pot. I hope I can book it at a closer dateb to the event, when I see the credit card billings up closer, wow the Euro is 1.53 and going up!!!!!!!!!!

lakeman,

I can certainly appreciate your position. I don't think that you will have any problem booking a room at the last minute. This is the weekend before the holiday weekend and it's a modest place. Hope you can join us.

I'll make my excuse early this time- gotta work the 17th. New job and schedule suck! Started off good and went downhill quick last 2 months. Maybe we'll make it over on Sunday if everyone is still around, at least we're not open Sundays.....yet.

Don't bother Chris...no offense but you know we are usually gone by noon.

All right all ready... I'll be there.... I guess as atonement for my egregious behavior in not attending the Homo get together, I will offer to host a evening get together at my house, including a keg o' beer. May even throw in some sausage/peppers/onions. I suspect I might even get Shannon and Erin to show...

The nice thing about this area is that if the weather is sloppy (as far as wind) you have options. Since there are 2 rivers, the Indian and the Banana, divided by Merritt Island. If the wind is blowing heavy from the east, you go in the Indian, raft off and stay close to shore where it's flat calm. If it's howling from the west, you raft off in the Banana.
In May it should be nice. The last few weekends have been terrible with the wind, but March/April is always windy here. Last weekend we had 25+ kts from the north, so it was sloppy on both rivers. My boat stayed on the lift :(

Chris...was that you on the St John's river in your 16 on Monday afternoon?
cmarques posted 03-25-2008 06:05 PM ET (US)     Profile for cmarques  Send Email to cmarques
Yes it was! Ran from Sanford to Astor and back. It was a little windy and cool but nice. How'd you know?

Your boss called wanting to know why you did not show up for work.

Janis saw you and tried getting our attention but no luck. She called me for your number which I don't have.

Scientologists have a camera on a bridge overlooking the river in case the mother ship miscalculates where Clearwater is.

Pick one!

Cool! Thought I saw her truck at Holly Bluff but wasn't sure. I should have headed over to see. Had a good afternoon, lunch at Shady Oak and a long boat ride back- needed it.
Unfortunately need to do a little glass work....smacked the dock with the fuel vent on the port side (used it for brakes) and pushed it into the hull. Got on the downwind side of the dock and couldn't stop quick enough- just think I was 100% sober.

I was checking my calender and realized that 5/17 is armed forces day. Most of you probably already proudly display the American flag when boating. If not, it would be a good idea to bring one along for this gig.

We always have plenty of flags...if not we "borrow" them.
