Calling all southern Maine, New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts Boston Whalers!

For the 2008 season I hope to plan a busy season with:

Piscat River in May,
Portland, Maine in June
York River in July
Lake Winn in August
Merrimack/Cape Ann in September

1st Event - Piscataqua River

Proposed Dates: Saturday or Sunday May 17 or 18th.
Alternate dates are 31st nd or 1st of June.
Memorial Day is the 27th

History:
4 years ago we did Isle of Shoals. 3 years ago we were in Great Bay. 2 years ago we were flooded out. Last year we went up the river to Brian's local joint for lunch

Please indicate your date preference for the Piscat River.

Thanks.
CBO

I was just about to say May 17th was OK with me and then got the look of death from the wife. It's her Breast Cancer walk in Boston that weekend. May 31st sounds good though.

ALL -

The Shoals are just so cool that a 4 year hiatus is too long.

Since we had a weak showing for the Whaler guys in York Harbor during the floods......what if we:

1: Meet up at 2KR at 0900
2: Cruise out to Gosport / Shoals
3: Hang Out
4: Cruise over the York Harbor and tie up at Dockside (far nicer than the shite hole I selected last year)

http://www.docksidegq.com/restaurant/restaurant.html

5: Invite / Chat with York Harbor Marine Whaler guys
6: Adjourn mid afternoon?

Those trailering can probably use the York Town docks.

Maybe JohnO can join us in his new '86 20' Outrage?!?!?!?

BK- Hey I like your plan, and my boat would never have to leave its slip! It is a beautiful area and the guys at York Harbor Marine are great. They had their own Whaler rendezvous last August, so you may want to contact them and see if they are planning to do it again this year.

Been a long time since I've tried to come out for one of these.. Satuerdays are tough for me but I could make it on a sunday.

If a decent amount of people are up for it I'm down.

I'm in depending on dates. May 18th doesn't work, but any other day does...even Memorial weekend.

I'll be motoring up from the Merrimack River unless I don't have the boat in the water yet, in which case I'll be begging for a ride with someone else.

Depending on the weather and the tides, another option for either a Piscat or York River trip is a place called Brave Boat Harbor which is a little inlet with a great low tide flat in between the two rivers. It's a nice spot to anchor up and play horse-shoes, Frisbee, barbecue, drink beer, etc. The excursion would need to be timed around low tide though.

CBO, I am all for a Portland trip, but not in the month of June or Early July.

Hey Phil, got your email, thanks. I'm in. 31 May/1 June is better now. 17 May is committed already, 18 is a maybe but wouldn't wanna leave out Nate and Seth. I'm in a Striper tournament over Memorial day so that's a no go and another on June 7/8 if Tri-State posts the dates. When did my life get so confusing |:>O

Nate I may try the cruise up from the Mack with ya depending on the weather. I'll probably have my dad with me so it's contingent on his old bones, but hey if Phil and Brian can handle it..... ;-)

CatBoat, I'd be happy to have company for the run up the coast.

June 1st is about my cutoff for rendezvouses until later in July. This year I vowed to avoid my poor fishing stats from last year. This means no commitments in June or first 1/2 of July, since the fishing is best at that time. Heck, even June 1 is pushing it since the Mackerel may be around by then!

All -

My vote us for June 7/8.......back up May 31/June 1.

Pete's right, conditions will make this a later launch season, and Phil probably can't even see his boat yet 'neath the massive Maine snowbanks.

NEWT - I need to meet you at the Shoals or Merrimack for some fishing help. I couldn't catch the clap in a brothel last year....and I, too, am determined to improve my stats. They cannot get much worse.

Looking forward to a great season opener!

BK

PS: Anyone hear if JohnO bought the 20' Outrage?

Brian - prior to last year I thought I did pretty well fishing. Well, during the day anyways - I have always been spanked pretty hard fishing at night. But last year was tough. Day or night, type of bait, fishing partners, etc it just didn't matter. Never got skunked, but didn't catch many keeper Bass. You may want to re-consider before asking me for help!

Anyway, how can June 1 be a backup for June 7th? Shouldn't the backup day be after the proposed date?

How about May 31 or June 1 as the official date?

YorkHarbor posted 03-28-2008 11:18 AM ET (US)     Profile for YorkHarbor  Send Email to YorkHarbor
Brian and Newt- I must agree that last year was the worst year I have ever had fishing-wise. And I even spent a record amount of time on the water for me!

Unless the meet somehow gets pushed back to June 14-15 I will be wishing you all safe wishes from the midwest!

Okay, it looks like you guys are starting to focus. Here is a summary:

CBO - Any date
NH K- Any date
Ryan- Any date
River Any date, not 31st

Controller - 17 th

Great Bay - 31st
Newt - 31st, not later
CBS - 31st
B K - 31st

Please correct incorrect information.

It is really sounding like the 31/1st and 7/8 as a rain date is in the lead. Can we lock it down?

What's the planned itinerary? Going with Brians suggestion of rendezvous at the 2KR, cruise to the Shoals and then finish at York Harbor for lunch?

I'm in for the 31st, but if moving to June 1 will include Riverwhaler, then my vote is June 1.

Oh, and Bkoelbel's plan is fine with me.

Fair warning though. If the Mackerel are in that weekend, I will probably be running late. :)

I have been told the boat will be fixed and ready at the end of this week. This is assuming the injectors come back on time and I can find room in the truck for all the $$$ they want in repairs.

Will confirm my status when I have run her in the bay.

Damn Newt that was pretty fast. What'd you sell it for a $1. ;-)

CBO glad to hear that the lay-up time isn't as long as first anticipated.

Started the new seasons work on Saturday. Couple of snags so far. Rear seat finally gave way after what looks like some water weight caught in the tarp over the winter. Not helped by me using it as a step to get to the stern. That's down to Brockton for repair. Lower units on the engines have been removed and sent to the welder. They had some minor cracking compliments of the previous owner and I could have probably had another season, but opted for ounce of prevention rather than pound of cure.

Still anticipate a splash on Memorial Day. What's a little pre-season stress right?

In 2006 Kyle (York Harbor) talked with him. He and his team put together a big barbecue spread, put 2 boats in the water for us to sea trial (180 Dauntless w/150 Verado and 150 Montauk) and only 2 out of the 8-10 expected boats showed up. Here is the photo: http://picasaweb.google.com/CascoBayOutrage/2006YorkHarbor/ photo#5012257027055975026

Given their effort and expense I felt really embarrassed and terrible about our poor attendance. Just don't want a repeat performance.

Here it is Memorial day and I am NOT on the water as planned. :(

Progress on the new boat was great until I caused/discovered an fuel problem on both engines. Bottom paint is done, new fuel lines are done, trailer work is done, hull is buffed, polished, and waxed from the rub rails down, and we successfully backed the trailer under the boat and took her for a test ride down the street.

With luck, I'll be on the water next Saturday to catch some fish and Sunday for our trip.

Who else is coming???

CBO, maybe time to start a new thread as a summary? This one is getting long....

You can see all that water in the air behind my boat. The ladder was left down. Whoops! Cleaning it today I noticed some pieces came off the ladder. Oh well. She sure took a beating by the time I noticed it.

Glad to hear you all had a safe journey. I would have much rather been out there with you than spending 6 hours on a take home exam! If anyone is interested I will be in town (York Maine) June 13-22. I think Phil (CascoBayOutrage) are going to plan on getting together if any want to join feel free!

I think Brian caught the "mystery" Montauk 190 in image 21.

Great day! Mom said she had fun, maybe we will get her back out on the next rendezvous.

Thanks Phil, another great trip.

Brian Great pictures. Look forward to seeing you all again soon, in the meantime if any one wants to go sailing just give me a call.

I will email some of the pictures I took today.

I'm the mystery Montauk 190 owner lurking in the background.

My wife and I were focused on fishing yesterday, otherwise we would have joined the group. I'd like to participate in a future outing at some point.

I store and launch out of Great Bay Marina and will be on the water most weekends.

Coincidently I was also on the river during last year's outing (weather was lousy but the fishing was great - just the reverse yesterday) and saw some of you at the Elliot ramp when I retrieved my Sport 150.

Sorry I couldn't make it with the last minute itinerary change. I was looking forward to seeing all of you guys again and meeting a few more. Looks like I missed a good time.

If nothing else, this rendezvous pushed me to get the new boat ready - right down to the last minute Saturday evening maiden voyage/sea trial!

See you all at the next one!
