I just happened across this announcement, could be an excuse to drop several of the local Whaler's in the water to watch from, I'm going to checking on transient slips along the river to see what I can come up with...

You may want to check with your Aviation Authority and find out how big the exclusion zone around the race site will be. When they ran the Red Bull at Greenwich last year they cleared a load of boats out from our Yacht Club and banned people from being on their boats as well.

Yea, I figured there will be some limitations as to what, where, & when you can be in the area, I'm in the process of trying to find out just that now, hopefully we might be able to be somewhere up or down river where we can see from a distance.....thanks for the input, it's good to get first hand information.

Pat,

sounds like a good time. I might be interested in a slip if this thing comes together.

That would be a blast to raft off with some boats and watch that. Man, I wish they did that where I live.

These air races are also returning to San Diego harbor this spring. The USCG/police cordon off a large patch of water during the event, so boaters will be restricted.

I saw this race on the Speed channel a few weeks ago. Really cool. I would love to see something like this in person.

I watched this live from about 200 yards away on the Saturday and then the next day I watched it on television. I have to say it was better on television.
Maybe a television on the boat is the best compromise.
Just my own humble opinion.
