How about it, some place like Blake Island. Sometime this summer, camping, fires, central location, even close to a couple of ramps. |

I'm in so long as the dates are right. But fair warning, I don't think Blake allows camping if you come in a powered vessel. I could be wrong. Regardless, I'm in for a day trip, and would even consider spending the night if I can convince my girlfriend to sleep on the floor of the Outrage. My available weekends this summer are few and far between. They are: May 31/June 1 |

I do not know how they would enforce no camping if you came over on a power boat. What would a sailboat with an engine count as? I think there are some kayak only campsites on some of the islands. It is about the only way you can get to the campsite. How is the overnight anchorage on Blake? It looks very exposed. John |

On Jones Island there are some non power campsites. http://www.parks.wa.gov/parkpage.asp?selectedpark=Jones+Island&pageno=2 I did not see this restriction on the Blake Island page. John |

I haven't heard anything about not being able to camp if you come in a powered boat. I think the camping thing will be out of the question for me because my daughter has a function that weekend at least on Saturday. The issue might be the camp grounds and moorage is first come first serve with no reservations. |

Trust me, Blake Island is lousy with power-boating campers. No such prohibition exists or ever did. You can also sleep on your boat at the marina or tied to one of the numerous mooring buoys around the island. Having held two PNW Rendezvous there, I can think we all know it is a good venue. Two bits of advice: - RESERVE a group picnic shelter. - Call the Rangers on the island and have them make sure the volunteers at the marina know a group is coming, While you cannot reserve moorage, a little communication will go a long way to keeping any available space together for a group. |

Tom, I was not aware that Blake Island has already hosted two Rondi's, (I guess I should have searched) do you have any central sound recommendations? I was going to try and get over to the island this weekend and check it out, speak to the rangers about how busy it gets etc. |

So is someone going to pull the trigger on the date. Or should I recommend some. Or are we mulling a location. (I nominate #1 Penrose Pt. or #2 Mystery Bay a lot of versatility as far as protected waters; however out of the way for most.) |

If the date doesn't seem to have created much response? 1, Can everyone who can make June 22nd chime in? 2, Blake Island, I have a total of about 2hr boating on the sound so most if not all of you are in a better position to make a recommendation of where to go. My thoughts were have it somewhere central. Blake Island seams pretty central and easy reach. I will look into reserving the picnic shelter as I am going to try a go over for a look this weekend if the weather and daughters birthday sleep over allow. 77' Montauk, very rough with new power |

Should we settle on an official time for the meet? One of the things that has been lacking in the past was structure to the event. Last year, we kind of sat around and didn't do much, and the group was somewhat segmented between hanging around on the dock talking about the boats, and hanging around on land eating (very plentiful) hot dogs and cake. We should probably try to agree on a time to eat lunch, and a time to do the "show & shine". Perhaps we could even do some sort of awards like they do at car shows. Nothing spectacular requiring trophies or anything, but something that would specify a certain time where everyone should have their boats at the dock and ready for review, perhaps with a few different categories. Awards could be as simple as a printed certificate or even just "Best use of duct tape on a Montauk" scribled on a paper plate. What do you all think? |

If we want to get serious about an organized events, talks, hell even tech sessions (and the few beers that go along with the preceeding). I think that would be fantastic but, I think June 22nd might be tight on the date. I spoke (email) with Tom C and asked a couple of questions. He mentioned the other picnic shelter is much better for our type of meeting and I could try and get it (it's booked). Unless there is an objection, maybe we should all provide input on structure and move the date out? We would get more out of getting together than names to faces. thoughts

I don't think one shelter vs another matters nearly as much as the date being workable for the most people. I'm pretty flexible between the dates listed above, but if we've already settled on the 22nd, we might want to stick to it. I'd really like to see towboater there, though. Awards and tech session would be great, even if it's really rough and somewhat flexible. At least it would give us something to do. |

I would like to spend the weekend it just depends on my daughters dance schedule. We went to Blake Island yesterday. It was "hoppin'" I couldn't find the volunteers to see which of the picnic area we have reserved. Camping space brought a premium on the long weekend. It was a typical PNW day the weather man said it was going to rain and was beautiful. |

Camping clarification from the State Parks website: "The camp has 44 tent spaces, five primitive sites, one dump station, four restrooms (one ADA) and one shower area. Cascadia Marine Trail sites are located on the west end of the island. These sites are for use by canoers and kayakers only. Primitive sites are also available on the west side. All campsites are first-come, first-served." I think we will be camping Saturday night either in the campground or on the boat. |

I went ahead and responded letting them know that we were holding this event and that they were welcome to send a representative or bring a propsective buyer out to see our level of obsession with their products. If past performance is any guide, they'll respond saying, "yeah, that sounds great" but then never follow through or show up. |

Work will be taking me to Puget Sound (Indian Island, Everett) areas from 30 June to 14 July. I have always wanted to visit this neck of the woods, and I could not ask for a better time of year. If there is any CW get together then, I'd sure like to meet some of you. Unfortunately, I will not be able to bring one of my Whalers. I still like to admire classics and meet fellow enthusiasts. I have learned alot reading SOSMERC's and Tom Clark's prodigious and knowledgeable posts. |

Would it be possible to clarify the description of the rendezvous? Is the get together on Sunday, June 22nd? Is there a specific time? Is this a bar-b-que? Should attendees bring a dish to share? Are there any specific events or happenings? What can people bring or do to help create a good event?! Any info on moorage? Should people be prepared to dock, raft, beach (probably all of the above)? |

Gerry, The rendezvous is on Sunday June 22nd. I don't think we've settled on a specific time, but we apparently have the picnic shelter reserved (I'm assuming for the whole day). I'm sure we'll meet up at the docks. If you plan to stay overnight, moorage is $0.50/ft in all state parks. If you're only staying for the day, it is generally free. We typically raft as necessary, mostly just as a courtesy to other boaters who want dock space for the night. Most of us won't be there overnight, so it is not polite for us to tie off and take up a lot of linear space only to abandon it right at the end of the day. However, on a Sunday afternoon, I don't anticipate much of a problem. One of the reasons it is nice to raft up is simply because it gets us all over each others boats, which makes it more fun to check everything out. Those who are spending the night will be arriving Saturday night, so there will be people around in the morning. If you see someone in a Whaler just walk up and introduce yourself. We'll figure out what to do. I'm in favor of doing some BBQing, but at this point it's too late to try to arrange for people to bring differnt things. I would say lets just make it a BYO-everything. |

Blake also has some horse-shoe pits, a decent sized open feild area, and casual walking trails. (And in fact I think there is a tourist shop in the log house too.) The BBQ pits are standard state-park style. I'll likely be out there for the weekend. Also for you Puget Sound boaters, I saw a gray whale between Vashon and Pt Defiance on Saturday evening. He/she was heading south, but i am not sure he actually went through the Narrows. Keep an eye out. |

The grey whale has been hanging out around the south end of Vashon for several weeks now. I've been out numerous times to try to see him, but haven't yet. I guess the "Whaler" logo and harpoon on the side of the boat must have scared him away! |
