Anyone up for a Rendezvous on Lake Lanier this summer? I know a couple of CW'ers who have some constraints, me being one of them! The Menemsha is supposed to be ready by Memorial Day, although I'm skeptical! Not sure about what time frame Dave is talking about with his sweet new Cohasset II before it is ready to roll. I believe Joe will be unavailable for a while towards the end of the month. So who's in? Suggestion for a Rendezvous date? -k

I'm in for a Lanier rendezvous. Hopefully the Lake level will at least maintain. I was out last Sat. and the ramp by the Dam Store was about 30 min. in/out wait time. There are still two lanes open. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing the Menemshha and Dave's Cohasset II. It will be a good time for a photo op. with these old(new)boats. Garey

Kevin,
I am in for a gathering if I am in town. Just got a new assignment tarting Monday and it means more travel. Leave for Neuss May 27 for 3 weeks. Then I leave town again for a week a few days after my return. So I am open June 14. After that it's up in the air again. May be back and forth to Europe and Asia for a few weeks at a time. I don't think I am going to get much boating time this summer but we will see.

If you push it out into June, i can probably fit into my travel schedule. would like to meet you guys. You're not all that far away from N. Florida. Plus, I've got to get Joe's flag back to him. Even if he isn't there I can give it to one of the "Lanier" crew.

Frank,
I was really hoping you would have another Homosassa gathering next winter. Then I would have to come down personally to get my flag. I am trying to talk Kevin to bring his Menemsha which should be top notch by then.

I am thinking late June or July for mine. I have a used CMC on the way. So, rehanging the motor, replacing the water pump and all lower unit seals, spark plugs, some attention to a couple spots on the hull (maybe the bearings too) and tightening up the console. May go ahead and use one of the mechanics you all have been using for some of that. It will be June before I can get all upside down and working on things, my nose is all stitches right now.

Count me in.. assuming I will be in town. June timeframe sounds good...but my 19 won't be ready by then- still in Savannah undergoing renovations... new motor, new gas tank, deck repair, new seats, buffing-it's pay as I go...so it's slow going. But I can bring the 13 anyway.

What do y'all think about Saturday, July 12th or the 26th? I am off both of those weekends, and hopefully the Menemsha will be ready by then! Let us know if you can make it, we can always push it forward or back to work for everyone! -k

Joe, your flag is safe with me until Homosassa if that's the case. I'd still like to bring it and the Whaler up to Lanier for some exporation before then. I hope you guys get something worked out and I will try to plan around it.

Kevin,
I am off to Europe for 3 weeks on Tuesday. June is pretty shot since I leave for Canada a few days after my return then off for a week. We will be off to the homeland for a week (Jersey Shore!!) Although my July schedule is still in the air, count me in for July or August.
Take Care

Lastly, will somebody see what,or if,Whaler will help with anything promotional like the blankets.(We use ours almost everyday for naps!) I hope the Evil 15 makes it. I would love to see that boat. Also looking forward to meeting some new folks as well as those I haven't seen since last year. Gonna be a good time......

I'm also looking forward to seeing everyone. I've been using the Dam Store ramp on the weekends. Kevin, I think 9am is about the right time. By around 10am the parking is gone. You can still put in, but they are using the park next door for overflow parking. That means you have to drive the trailer all the way around to the other park. Kind of a hassle if your putting in by yourself. Mick, I've kind of been following your project 15' too. Hopefully you can make it. Those rub rails look really nice!

I live 5 minutes from East Bank, but have bypassed it due to the fact there's no where to dock or beach there, making launching by myself or with small kids a dilemma.

How do you guys do it?

BTW - I may have a seat open if anyone needs a ride.

minitauk85 posted 06-27-2008 03:52 PM ET (US)     Profile for minitauk85  Send Email to minitauk85
Matt- there is plenty of area to beach out in front of the courtesy dock at East Bank. The water drops off pretty deep in just a couple of feet. If you are facing the ramp from the parking area, look to your left and you will see the wooden dock, out in front of it is the area I am talking about. Just keep an eye out for stumps and rocks! Jerry and I beach there every week to splash and load!-k

Thanks Kevin - Not sure how I missed that sand over there. Nice to know.

Next question: Do you guys bring spouses and kids on this deal? My wife who begrudged the purchase of this "old boat" (that I brought home the day before valentines day) seems to have really fallen for it. I can't seem to get out without her :0).

Hi guys. I forgot about this forum and just “stumbled” upon it again.

Hmmmm...a Whaler rendezvous on Lake Lanier...sounds interesting. I knew there had to be more Whalers on the Lake than the few I see from time to time.
I’ve got a 22’ Dauntless “My Sweetie Two” – I’ll mark my calendar for July 27 and hopefully be able to make it.

Matt- Wives and children are always welcome! It might be helpful if attendees let us know who is planning on bringing family with them, both for a head count, and to avoid the "I was the only female there!" issue! Not yet sure if my wife will attend or not!

Jay- Glad to have a new participant! Be sure to mark Saturday, July 26th, not the 27th, on your calendar!

All- It has been suggested that a cook out on one of the beaches would be fun, any volunteers want to step up for grill, charcoal, etc... or would a picnic lunch be easier? How about Holiday Marina for lunch? I am open to any suggestions, (and volunteers) to make this stuff happen! If nobody steps up, we can assume Holiday (or another shoreside restaurant) for an early lunch is the plan!-k

Hey everybody,
I'm bringing my wife/buddy with me. Last rendevous she was the only gal there so it'd be GREAT to have some other wives/girlfriends along.(Beth?) If we agree ahead of time that a picnic with grills on an island is the plan, I'll bring a small portable gas grill/w 20 gallon tank. Probably need at least one more along with mine. If kids are coming a cookout would be nice, if no kids then maybe opting for a sit down lunch would be the better choice. I'm flexable, let me know if you need me.

Count me in with the 2 boys... Ill try to get the girls to go as well but that is more iffy. I can bring a small grill also if needed.

I had hoped to have the 19 ready...but Murphy's law strikes again. Was in Savannah 2 weeks ago to help install the new fuel tank and it stormed for two straight days...filling the tank well with water...and of course on day 3 water started to leach out of a crack. I drilled some holes in the keel and voila- water. Major bummer... drilled some more holes and waiting on it to dry out some. I hope it hurries up- my Dad is contemplating on charging me rent on the garage space the new boat stuff is taking up... fuel tank, bench seat, canvas, refinished floor deck, etc.

Joe....sorry for the delayed response. I'm from Tabernacle, NJ. I normally say Cherry Hill, however since you are from SJ, you likely will have heard of this small farm town near Medford. Where are you from? Look forward to meeting you.

Garey, yes that was me in cocktail cove with the montauk and etec.

Just to confirm, we are meeting on July 26th. Is there any particular spot (cove, beach) we plan to meet at or just the south end of the lake near the dam?

Yes, my wife will be in attendance as I've successfully turned her into a whaler lover! (It will make buying my next whaler a breeze!)

See you all soon.

superdave_gv posted 07-09-2008 06:04 PM ET (US)     Profile for superdave_gv  Send Email to superdave_gv

Some other year we talked about parks briefly. We only called about potentially reserving the two that have a swim/platform dock for tying up the boats--and they were both reserved that year. This year, every Lake Lanier park would be essentially be equal due to beaching.

Park versus island: Island would be easier to grill out, recreate and use the restroom, harder to have a beer. I seem to recall somewhere that people are not allowed to grill out on islands although it seems to be a common occurence.

I may also be able to bring a table... I have a nice size foldup table. My vote is for island...the parks I have seen are so far dried up that you would have to walk thru a lot of red mud to get to them. Garey, my grill is small, so if you want to bring yours also that might be a good idea if we have a good number of folks.

How about if you plan on bringing a side dish, drop Jerry (Nautitauk) an email so he can coordinate the side dishes...although three pans of brownies and one salad sounds just about right to me! If we have to have salad that is.... Less than two weeks until the Rendezvous, I guess we should start thinking about a roll call, I'll start:

Minitauk85 will be there, hopefully with a new moniker, and (hopefully) a Menemsha, and some hotdogs and chips. Otherwise I'll have to bum a ride...

Also please email your cellphone number to me, and indicate if you'd like it to be circulated to the others attending. I will not publish it here on CW or distribute it in any other way. -k

Kevin,
We will need to plan for a fairly early start due to the shortage of ramps right now. They left East Bank open even after the parking lot was full but you had to park at Lanier park a few miles down the road. Not a good setup. I opted for Shoal Creek day use which for some reason was not full although it is a much smaller lot.

This may be a given but make sure all are boats are legal and have the correct safety equipment. There were Sheriff boats all over the lake and they were stopping boats cosistently. In fact the one in the whaler warned me about wake while I was motoring into Holiday Marina with my son. Thing was I was making less wake then he was and not doing more than 2 knots. Of course I bit my toungue and continued to Dockside grill.

I am chopping away at the big to-do list on the Cohasset II. Goal is only to get it in shape to enjoy it this year, get it real pretty next year. Trying to hit a Rendezvous weekend sure helps. Still looks like a 50/50 chance I will be able to run it and not have to hitch a ride.

Big George came by one night this week to help out. He should make the Rendezvous. His internet is down and he has been busy commuting to a jobsite down in Atlanta every day.

Sucks to hear about the rangers activity. They would best to just squat at the ramps to make sure people are legit and loading/unloading efficiently. My new Georgia reg #isn't back from DNR but they cashed the check already so my temp registration certificate will do.

My wife, 3 kids and I will be there. About Shoal creek... it has been full the last 2 times I was there. Today the Park ranger wasn't letting people put in because of the full lot. If you want a spot, best be there before 9am. I had to take my trailer off today and pull it up next to the Tahoe. Dang people with their cars taking up a whole trailer space... I got out and asked an old couple who was pulling into an empty trailer space to kindly move to so a car with a trailer could have that space. She wasn't too happy with me. I guess it could have been the guy in front of me who wasn't as nice and just yelled at them. :-)

I believe the plan is to meet around 9am at East Bank (Dam Store ramp). I think Murphy has a good idea to head up to Gaines Ferry Island for the cook out. I checked it out last weekend and looks like a perfect place, especially the south end. A nice big cove that stays pretty calm. Garey

I've just packed plates, cups, forks and spoons for 50+ people. 2 rolls of paper towels - aka "napkins" in my home with 4 kids. I'll try to remember some big trash bags too.

Not sure about you guys, but I've been enjoying getting the boat cleaned up for this little 'vous.

I'll be putting in early, and will likely drop an anchor just offshore leaving what little soft beach there is for you guys to get in.

Wife and twins are watching the weather. I'll be there no matter what.

Is there a particular VHF channel to monitor for this event?

Kevin,
Have we decided on a time for everyone to meet up in the East Bank cove. I suggest 10:00 AM if that is OK with everyone else. Any later and you risk not getting a parking spot. Then we can all motor up to the Gaines Ferry Islands.

I still plan on bringing Burgers, Dogs or brats, buns, rolls.

Lets say we all monitor Ch 71 for those with VHFs. 68 & 69 are normally used by the fisherman on the lake. 3 Days and counting. Kevin...Will the Menemshabe ready?

Have faith Kevin. Maybe just faith in Bass Pro and West Marine having what you need in stock but that helps too.

Just got back from testing the Cohasset II at Shoal Creek. It was great--not done with everything but running well. We are all rooting for you and the Menemsha!!

Great photos! Looks like a nice time. I enjoyed meeting some of the gang at the Lake Lanier Rendezvous two years ago.

This rendezvous requires advanced planning for me. The weekend prior I've got to get my boat out of covered storage at Highland Maria at West Point Lake, and the following weekend bring my Montauk back to West Point.

This year we simply had too much going on especially with school starting in two (three) weeks.

Start marking your calendars for the 4th Annual Waccamaw River Trip April 25-26, 2009. It's a great one.

Phil! We missed you buddy! I was wondering why no response- maybe next time! Had a great time and met some really great people! Unfortunately the Menemsha was not ready, so my wife and I bummed a ride with Joe. Turns out that was a good thing because she really liked Joe's boat, now if I can just convince her to take a second job to pay for it!

We met at the usual place, East Bank ramp, and it was crowded, but not as bad as usual for a Saturday. I had the privilege of assisting (valet as Matt puts it) with a couple boats, so I got to pilot Dave's "new" Cohassett II", a sweet boat which looks huge with the narrow console. We rolled across Lanier and beached at Van Pugh's, a sandy little cove which was perfect for the cookout. Fortunately it was ocassionally overcast, which kept my sunburn down to a second degree toasting of my feet and neck. Jerry and Joe grilled burgers and dogs, plenty of food for all. The gift bags, provided by Traci Davis of Boston Whaler where greatly appreciated by all! Thanks again Traci! Here are some pics:

Nice to meet all of the new folks! Liz didn't have as good a time at the mall as I did on the lake yesterday and made me take her out this afternoon...we picnicked on the beach and watched the sunset while the kids played on the tube. Cruising around at night on the lake is so peaceful...anyway... looking forward to seeing you all back out there soon.

Just a quick note to let everyone know what agreat time Lois and I had on Saturday. Good folks, good food, and just about perfect weather. The trip back up the lake to Clarks Bridge ramp was pretty bumpy but uneventful. Once we were in the river things smoothed out quite a bit. We have to get back to Florida for some business but I'm pushing it out as much as possible to be there for Kevin when he splashers the Memensha. Lookin forward to the next one!! Phil, let's go catch a Striper.

First thanks to those involved in organizing the rendezvous. Here’s the link to my photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/OctoberGloryAtlanta/LanierBostonWhalerRendezvous2008

Several of you were very interested in my dog Matteo (the first of his breed in Georgia) who is a Lagotto Romagnolo. For further information of this rare breed please visit out club website at www.lagottous.com The link to the history of the breed makes for interesting reading.

In addition there is a Yahoo Groups at http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Lagotto/ with a discussion group and photos of dogs from around the world.

I enjoyed meeting everyone, seeing the boats and I look forward to seeing you on the lake.

To all,
Thanks for posting all of the pics, I hate I had to miss this fun event, just FYI, I would be glad to offer my Dock/House for the next event anyone would like to hold. I have a 32X32 Dock with an upper deck, full size grill etc. I am located in a quiet cove, (no waves) off of the Chestatee channel (11C) across from Little Hall Park. The only item we need to consider is some more water in Lanier. At full pool I have 19ft. of water at the dock, currently I have 4ft and falling, anything over 1060 elevation and we would be good to go for swimming etc. We could tie up/anchor 6 to 10 boats with no problem. Just wanted to extend the offer, the beach you guys picked looked great and you may want to keep it the way it is.
Thanks

I am coming back from Nashville Monday. I am hoping to fish tuesday afternoon it looks like.I will let you know Monday night. I will probally launch from Little Hall.Fairly close to Dahlonega about 40 min. to the ramp from the house. My boat running good and will get a face lift this winter. I had to use it one season before I take it apart and re-due the inside. One of the previous owners painted the inside with non-skid in light gray.I hate it.
