I would like to and it has been year since I sold my property down there. Maybe the timing will be right for me to revisit that area. I spent a lot of quality time in Bokeelia great boating/fishing area. |

Tohsgib If I bought it I think I could make all my money back on RUM drinks!(or maybe thats how I would go bankrupt) Lakeman If you have some in-site on places to see in that area let me know. I was thinking of starting off at a ramp in Englewood heading down to Cabbage key for lunch. Site see or hang on Cayo Costa. Then on the way back hit Stump pass grill if time permits. If you have any better ideas, I'm all ears. Mike |

Might give Tarpon Bay Lodge on Pine Island a try. Great food and is very close to Cabbage Key. Terry |

I have been there it is nice. Are we staying for the weekend? Maybe somewhere nearby it is a great area to boat around. Len |

Len I hadn't thought of an overnight, but that is possible. Cabbage Key is $99/night(for the least expensive...no dogs,no fires/cooking) with a two night min. Cayo Costa has "Primitive" cabins for $30/night or cabins at Jug Creek on Pine Island for $75. Tarpon Bay Lodge rates are as low as $115 and up Mike |

Mike, Have you thought about marketing? |

Len Yes,right now I'm marketing a Bigshot doll. It comes complete with a diecast 13' Whaler and a backbrace! ;) Mike |

Better add a set of cushions and another doll of my Chiropractor. This would be tons of fun but I say we wait till Sept or Oct, just before the rates go up and rainy season is over. Would be a shame to have to call it quits at 3pm or earlier when it starts to lightning and rain. |

Remember it was years ago I hung around there, and lots have changed since then. Cabbage Key is still the number one place to visit from what I have read. I have no idea if all the dollar bills that papered the restaurant survived the hurricane. I once got on Useppa private island near Cabbage Key where some celebrities have homes and just missed some docking. As other have said lot of places to stay on Pine Island, or Maybe Boca Grande. Cayo Costa used to have some nude areas on the out side, but today maybe not, but it was always interesting. More info can be found or asked on the Florida sportsman forum, the SW Florida link for general information. If you have not been there pull Pine Island Sound in Google Earth a fun place to explore. |

Lakeman I think a lot has changed since you were out here. I work on Boca Grande. Boca Grande, as far as I know , doesn't have any inexpensive places to stay. Strangely, in a housing slump this place is booming. Tohsgib While I agree later in the year would increase weather cooperation, I happen to have this weekend(8/16-17/08) open for general horseplay. If you think it is in the best interest of all involved to move this to a latter date state your case and set it up. You have lived here longer than I have, I'll deferrer to your local knowlage. Sorry Mike I forgot you had already posted a date in the title...go for it. Bad weather in FL can happen any minute in any month. My outlaws live in Punta Gorda so I would just day trip it probably anyway. |

I`d like to get back to Cabbage key. I think the closest ramp is on Pine Island. rich |

Yes Rich The closest ramp would be on Pine Island. I wanted to run down from Englewood. Running past Boca Grande inlet can get rough, especially for a 13. I'll look into that ramp. Mike |

OK Who thinks they can make this trip? And who would need to start South of Boca Grande in case it gets bumpy. Mike |

I was there last month, I was in Boca Grande for two weeks in June & had plenty of the Cabbage Key Planters Punch. I'd love to join you all 8/16, but it's too long a trailer ride from Savannah. Good luck & have fun! John |

Mike, That's me. I trailered it down for the trip...big gas bill for the truck, but we had a great time on the boat while down there. Caught a nice tarpon off the beaches from the outrage, which was cool. I get down there for a week or two each summer, this is the second time I've trailered the whaler that far. We go with families from Tampa & usually they bring a boat so I usually don't bother. I've been going down there each year for the past 25 years I guess (since I was a kid), it's my favorite place in the world in the summer. |

Mike, Quite a project. I'd like to buy something like that...all I need is around $7 million, I'm guessing? The housing slump doesn't seem to have brought BG prices any closer to earth. That is an unusual looking house from the gound level. Very small world that you saw my boat there. |

My B-Day is the 9th and my wife wants to go someplace with the Whaler for the weekend in August. I think we are gonna go down to Ostero Island area and will probably meet you at Cabbage key as well. Wife & I need AC so what other hotels are available for just a night or can I bring my own AC for the cabin ;)? |

Check out The Innlet on Boca Grande. Boat ramp and dockage available on site. Rates don't seem too bad, and it is your birthday. |

frostbite The Innlet is a nice spot. The only drawback is the $4 bridge to trailer to it. I'll stop in and check out the place tomorrow if I have time. Nick Do you mean Estero? The cabins are PRIMITIVE no A/C, no water, etc.(Think shed with cots). I don't think Cabbage key would have A/C either. I'll check the other locations for A/C. Mike |

E? O? What's the difference?? |
myakka |
posted 07-29-2008 07:37 AM ET (US)
Nick The Innlet only has deals for people staying two or more nights. The room is $145 + $2.55 per ft for a slip for a one night stay. For others, the ramp fee is $15( plus $4 to get over the bridge). Another option for trailering is starting at the Placida ramp. The Tarpon Inn shows a rate of $199 I think a slip is included. The Beachouse Lodge looks good but has no information listed, I'll call later today. Beachouse Lodge 7702 Bocilla Ln. Bokeelia, FL 33922 Phone: 239-283-4303 Mike |

Mike, Sorry that the rendezvous didnt materialize. However, I appreciate the fact that you put forth the effort to get one together. Keep it up. We'll get one of these off the ground sooner or later. Have a good time over there. I spent a week over in Naples 2 weeks ago. I towed the Montauk over. For the last week of July, the weather was actually much nicer than it had been the past 8 years that I'd gone there. The winds were predominantly from the SW and we had very little rain. I hope that you're as lucky as I was with the weather. Brian |

Brian Thank you. I'm not discouraged. Summer tends to suck for organizing non-family events around here. I run a boat club for my development and it runs the same way. Plenty of participation in the winter and no one in the summer. I'll still follow through with the trip with some neighbors. Mike |
