Thought I'd throw it out there- who's up for a get together in October? Perfect weather, less crowded ramps, who's in?

Kev,
If I'm up there you know you can count on "Nauti".All will depend on how fast I can get this Florida project out of the way.

Sounds good to me! I'm still addressing my oil light issue, but I'd love to get out there. Kev, Why don't you throw out a date in Oct. I know everybody wants to see the Menemsha. Garey

I'll be there if I can. Looks like the last 3 wkds are open for me.

Lanier may be shot by then. Burton maybe? Mocassin Creek St Park?

Kevin,
I am in unless something comes up. Maybe we can do the fishing day like last year for those who want to learn something about Lanier Striper fishing.

Not sure what Mgeiger means by the lake being shotby then. Can you elaborate on that statement. October and November are some of my favorite times on the lake.

shot - as in - no water at the ramps.

Joe,
A fishing day sounds great to me. I have been chashing stripers the last few months with fair success.Just need to figure out how to use my electronics a little better.

Looking at my available dates, it would have to be Saturday, October 4th, 18th or, November 1st. Pat can't make the 19th, and the 4th is only a month away. Matt, can you make October 4th? Otherwise I say we shoot for November 1st. What do y'all think? -k

Dangit- I would love to try to be there, but soccer will probably mess up my plans. Plan a date and Ill see what I can do.

Nov 1st works best for me. I am still in Nashville doing change order and punch work on the 22 story condo I have been working on for the last 9 months.

Thanks Pat Hayes

10-4 is my 4 y.o. twins' B-Day party. Not a chance. Sorry.

11-1 is great. Gives me more time to get my new chartplotter installed and to try out my new Porter Cable polisher.

Doh! just informed the wife - and that's our anniversary. She didn't buy the "hey baby - let's go do a Whaler trip" as I tried to side-step my way out of that one.

Matt- the striper fishing Rende' we did last year was a very casual outing. Just a few Whalers out fishing, see if she'll let you play unti lunch time! Is there Anyone else who can't make November 1st? -k

Nov. 1st sounds good to me. I may try to get out to Road Atlanta Oct. 4th for the Petit Le mans. For those of you who also like motorsports, this is a must see event.

I would really like to observe some Striper fishing techniques. Garey

So it looks like November 1st works best for most folks. Hopefully we'll have enough water at the ramps! Let's shoot for a sunrise launch at East Bank, however if we don't get enough rain, we may have to move to Shoal Creek. What do y'all think?-k

Pat- As far as I know, we're still a go for November 1st. We'll have to see what ramps are still usable, probably Shoal Creek will be one of the few open ramps unless we get some rain, not likely in October! -k

I'm in too, anniversary - schanniveersary... I'll have my sons with me so we'll be bringing our Montauk, though I have to admit this Striper thing is new to me. We tried a little last weekend. Can someone point me to a good site explaining what kind of rigs I should be using?

I just read that the Dam Store is moving in Dec. I wonder if anybody else will move in that building. I guess I'm getting older, I've been in and out of there for 22 years.

I'm may not be able to make the Nov. Rendezvous,we'll see.

Anyone know if the Holiday Grill is still open? I figure we will have to pack our own lunches unless they are open. I have room in the Menemsha for 1-2 folks, although 2 might be crowded for fishing. Nauti Tauk had to cancel, still in South Florida, and GBCBU had to cancel as well, so I have room for a passenger. Looks like Shoal Creek is the only south end option for launching. The Dam Store should be open for bait.-k

Not sure if I am in or not-- Is this still an early morning fishing trip? Will be warmer at the end of the week but still in the 40s in morning.

Side note, took the Cohasset up to Lake Burton today from around 1pm-3pm and it was nice. Leaves still have some changing to do. Little windy / choppy but so worth it. Had guests with me but basically self-launched. It's hard for us Lanier folks to remember what courtesy docks are like but it was great. Precariously walked the plank of that roller trailer to keep dry. I bet Lake Rabun will be awesome over next couple weeks.

I think I will be there as well. I need to run some Stabil thru the motor before I put it up for the winter. I am still waiting on a sub for Saturday, but that should be no problem.

Just got the word from Robert, the Menemsha is good to go. I plan on being at the Dam Store around 7 a.m. to get bait. Would like to have the boat in the water by 8a.m., any later and the ramp will be jammed, supposed to be a beautiful weekend! Will test drive/fish Friday morning to make sure everything checks out-k

I hate to back out on such short notice, but circumstances beyond my control require it! Sorry guys, nothing major or bad, just obligatory....I'm bummin'...Buddha at the Dam Store is expecting y'all (and me, give him my regrets and apologies) in the morning, and he should be able to get you guys squared away on bait and tackle. I was able to fish today, killed the spots, but no stripers, although I marked some huge schools in Baldridge back by Mary Alice Park. They were there early and gone by 10 a.m. Try freelining some live trout off the stern, I had a couple of nice hits on those today. Take some pics and post em! -k

I'll be there but it won't be at 7:30; got the wife and another couple along. Thought this was a Whaler rendevouz rather than a fishing trip. Got the re-furbed Newport good to go (I think)and am looking forward to seeing it in the water for the first time in 15 or so years.

If you see a smirk a-paddlin come tow me in.

Ill be there before 8am at Shoal Creek. I didn't have time to do any of the things I planned on this week to the boat so the depthfinder is still out so Ill be fishing blind. Thats OK- I am more looking forward to riding up north and seeing the leaves on the north end.

NitroVinny,

Call us when you get on the lake...

mgeiger posted 11-01-2008 01:16 PM ET (US)     Profile for mgeiger
Well, my sons and I had fun. We put in at 7, and hung out nearby in the fog doing a little trolling til 8. Once it looked like no other Whalers were coming, and the fog lifted, we trolled out the creek to the lake. I'm totally new to striper fishing. We had on one trout and one herring. The herring got tagged as soon as it hit the water... no fish though. I also had a roostertail on a casting rod to toss out where fish were surfacing. We had a few other bites, but failed to land anything. Vinny came by mid-morning and said "hi" - boat looking good. My boys and I went to Dockside, and had a great lunch. All bottled beer was $2 today... ooh that couldda been dangerous! We got back to the ramp about 1, and I can say my 9 year old can drop me off, and drive the boat onto the trailer by himself.

Missed seeing you all. Kevin - hope all is well.

I launched right at daylight at Tidwell. Motored over toward Shoal and noticed it was in a fog bank.Being I was in Flordia last time I was in the boat I still had the Costal chip in the Eagle.Lets just say there is no compairson to stock vurses Hot spots chip.Fished the hump in Front of Shoal Creek till 9 or so. Met my brother as the sun came up we decided to go up to Flat Creek.Caught 4 nice spots there the biggest being 4 lbs. and 21 inches.Left there went over by Aqua land and came up on a bunch of surface feeders but could not get them to bite.About 3 we called it a day and loaded up and went back to Dahlonega.Sorry I missed those that showed up (Matt, Vinny)and Murphy did call this morning about 8:30 or so. Hope to see ya'll next time

Sorry I missed you all...had some sickness in the house to deal with today but I was able to put in the lake finally around 3:30. I figured no one was left so I didn't bother calling anyone again- sorry I missed you all. I ended up coaxing the rest of the family to meet me and come out for a while since it was such a beautiful day and we beached for a while then ate dinner at Dockside. Just got back home around 8:45. The lake was beautiful motoring back to Shoal Creek from Dockside in the darkness...the moon shining off the water. Nice.

I look forward to seeing everyone I missed today at our usual spring/summer rendevous.

It's 6:30AM here in the Boston area, wood stove is on and there is frost on the grass, and now all day yesterday just thinking how close I came to being able to join you all. I'm in Atlanta Wed. and Thursday for work and will not be able to stay an extra day to get up and look at Lake Lanier.

Fog in the morning and moonlight dancing over the water in the evening...sounds magnificent. Wish I could have been there...Maybe this coming spring...Still hoping for rain for "ya all". All my best

GBCU,

Give me a call anytime you are back in Atlanta and I will hook you up! We certainly need the rain...the lake is down even more it seems as I see more and more tree stumps protruding from the water each time I go out.
