Real Central Florida Boating

I'm gonna have some downtime in the Orlando area at the end of the month. Can anyone recommend the best way to get out and get some real central Florida fresh water boating in? There are plenty of tourist trap type rentals in and around Disney, but I was hoping to get out on the Southern end (upper?) St. Johns River or something like it. Are there any decent rentals. Would I need to Airboat it?
Any information or experiences would be appreciated.
Somehow doing circles in a 25 hp 170 Montauk on a man made lake the size of a football field at Disney doesn't cut it.

Show up to our rendezvous in Bradenton on 11/1 and catch a ride....1.5 hours west of Orlando.

If you are thinking about airboats, try Lone Cabbage. It's off SR520 in Cocoa. It's a 40 minute ride from Orlando.
If you really want to get serious, go to the Mosquito Lagoon and get a guide. Much better idea than renting a boat in an area that you are unfamilair with. They will put you on some redfish, trout, tarpon, snook, etc.

That would be great. Thanks for the offer but I should have said "end of next month." I'll be in Florida November 24 to December 4.

Being that nobody shows up to our rendezvous...yes Len and I rendezvous every month or every other weekend. Swing on over, we'll take ya for a tour.

Sad, but true. I gave up on the B.W. rendezvous where I live and just get together with other friends that have boats in my area. I still have a great time.
I have said so before and still feel that the C.W. contingent here in FLA is very small. There's a nice group near Tampa (GCBWOA) that gets together on occassion. Other than that, I dont see any rendezvous happening in FLA here on C.W.
I still think that C.W. is a great website for info. Just not so much for FLA rendezvous. The same goes for Whaler Central, great site, just not for FLA rendezvous.
