I'll be back in the mountains in April and ready for a rendevous on the lake. It may be a little early but is anyone else getting itchy for a get together?

Considering you will be in Homosassa in March you should not be too itchy Jerry...everything OK? Fleas? ;)

Actually we need to make an effort to attend one of these, especially if you set one up in the early fall.

Altoona is fine, Lanier is fine I'm not runnin the show here just throwin it out there cause we always have a good time getting together with the families and boats. I'm hoping some of the folks from the Homosassa rende. Will come up and join us.

I just dropped off my boat with Robert to have some work done. If it is ready by then count me in. By the way, I saw Kevin's boat sitting there in the yard- whats up with that?

Also, count me out if it is Alatoona... I don't care to trailer that far since Lanier is 5 miles away.

Murph- I've had trouble with engine performance for a while, hard to diagnose because it was intermittent. Robert is replacing/rebuilding the powerhead. I was up there today and saw your beast, I didn't realized how big that boat really is! So what are you having done? Buff out and bottom paint? I'd be real tempted to turn that baby into a big low pro!-k

Yeah, bottom work and buff out the rest of the gelcoat. New rub rail too and a few more odds and ends. I wanted to do it myself...but finally realized I would never have enough time.

Don't know how it works for everyone else but around the first of May sounds good to me. Maybe we can squeeze in two like we did last year.

Hhmmmm let me see, gee I guess you can count on Jerry and Lois. If you all want to do the picnic thingy again we'll bring a salad and the same gas grill to cook on. If anybody has another grill, that should give us all the cooking room we need. If you decide a sit down lunch is better I can get behind that too. The date is a go for us Kev.

I had to miss last years due to vacation, May 30th would work for me, I just want to offer (I threw this out last year) and I am not forcing this, however, I have a 32X 32 dock on Lanier, I have a full size Weber gas grill and can provide a potty for the girls (house or abord my other boat)My home is off of 11c marker on the Chestatee (across from Little Hall park off Hwy 53 in Gainesville)My family would love to host, or just join the group wherever you decide to meet,

Will- That sounds like a great offer, and a great place to Rendezvous! Might be a fun run up the lake, and the lake might be up to 1060 by then, if current trends in weather continue. What do y'all think? May 30th Rendezvous at Wet Willy's dock? Who's in? -k

The link works fine, great work, its easy, take a left in the cove after 11c, follow the blue line to the back of the cove, currnetly I have 6-8ft of water all around the dock, by May 30th we should be in great shape

If all are good with this, lets make it a go for May 30th at the Daniel Dock. If some boaters don't want to "boat" from the south side, (it is approx 14 miles from the dam to our dock)You could trailer to Little Hall Park (all 4 lanes are open) and come that way. I can see the boat ramp from my property. I am excited to meet everyone and have some fun.

Hey Willie, post some GPS coords when you get a chance.
Wet Willy posted 03-19-2009 04:21 PM ET (US)     Profile for Wet Willy  Send Email to Wet Willy
I will do that, the boat (with the gps) will not be back in the water for a few weeks, however, before the event, I will have GPS coords, Pic of the Dock, re-stated simple directions by water, (11c headed north, turn left back of the cove etc.)cell numbers , it is real easy to find.
superdave_gv posted 03-20-2009 04:44 PM ET (US)     Profile for superdave_gv  Send Email to superdave_gv

Sounds fun, hope to make it. Directions provided already referencing the cove past 11C are sufficient. Go in cove, look for Whaler. We can all spot Whalers under tarps from 300 yards around a corner, as anyone riding in a boat / car / etc with us has witnessed.
superdave_gv posted 03-21-2009 08:26 AM ET (US)     Profile for superdave_gv  Send Email to superdave_gv

You know what, though, not having the coords might take the fun out of the GPS trip planning. I need to get one of those things. It looks like 11C is most likely:
lat="34.306601" lon="-83.947062"

This Corps page has waypoints to load into GPS

Here is a way to get a cool visual of the whole cove. Type in 4655 Enota ct. Gainesville, GA. Google earth does not exactly capture my house, it looks like it is on a neighbors home, however, as the address displays over the picture, our dock is right under the words "Gainesville ga." depending on how much you zoom in and out. Kink of interesting, the Dock is in the correct place, however it is not our Dock, i.e. the photo is at least 3 maybe 4 years old, Our Dock is two levels 32X32 and it is in brown Trex material. Once you look on Google Earth it will be a snap

Swellmonster posted 03-24-2009 09:19 PM ET (US)     Profile for Swellmonster  Send Email to Swellmonster
What accomodations links are in the area?
Menemsha69 posted 03-26-2009 05:51 AM ET (US)     Profile for Menemsha69  Send Email to Menemsha69
Swellmonster-It depends on what you want to spend, and what type of accomodations you'd like. Accomodations range from primative campgrounds all the way up to Lake Lanier Islands resort, there are also hotels and motels in the surrounding areas. If you are up for camping, try the Army Corps of Engineers site, otherwise "Google" might prove more useful for hotels/motels in the area.

So it sounds like Saturday, May 30th is the day, and Wet Willy's dock is the place to be!-k

Dave, That's too funny. I was down at Shellmen Bluff last weekend for the St. Patrick's Day parade and my Whaler radar was on the whole time. Looking forward to the rendezvous. I know the Menemsha will be there this time, right Kevin?

I like the black also. Anything was an improvement! Was supposed to pick it up last week, but some bubbles in the bottom paint (noticed by the missus) kept it there a wile longer to get sanded and re-done. There is no telling how much water is still trapped inside the foam just trying to get out!

Man, I hope that means Robert's got tons of boats in the queue. Good for him. Otherwise, he needs to start turning the boats over faster and quit giving away free boat storage! May have to run by there tomorrow. Just need a thru-hull and maybe some other little stuff. Trying to talk Matt into letting me pay him to buff/wax the hull since his Montauk looks so awesome. Still haven't tested the CMC tilt/trim but should do that myself first before getting it hung on there. Also want to do the wood on the console myself.

Took the Menemsha out for a spin this morning, and ran into Dave at Roberts. Dave was brave enough to take a quick run around Van Pugh, even in the sheltered part of Van Pugh we were smacking into 3 foot whitecaps! Wind was a sustained 20 to 30 mph with gusts to 40...Yeeeehaaaw!!!Just waiting on a new prop at this point, motor seems good to go! Had a good time Dave! Good to see you!
Garey- May see you tomorrow- Jerry and I are gonna put in at East Bank early to try our luck at stripers. May be crowded because I think there is at least one tournament this weekend, plus the call for good weather on Saturday might make it crazy at the ramp. Good thing we've got four lanes open! -k

I made it out on the Lake for about 5 hours on Sat. I got back to the ramp, East Bank, about 3pm and there was 1 parking space left. I think it was due to the fishing tourney Kevin mentioned and the really nice weather. There was a ton of Bass Boats and big cruisers on the Lake. I cruised up to Willy's dock, it's a nice little ride. Willy, I probably rode right by your dock. Looks like a great place to meet up. It was around 16 miles from East Bank, but I made several detours into some of my favorite coves. I logged about 64 miles total.

Here's a pic. of the East Bank floating dock on April 4th.

Are any of you going to Buffett tomorrow night at Lakewood? If so, look for a black Suburban - 10' Flagpole flying a Pirate flag, A Pusser's Rum flag and an inflatable "lady". I usually use an old spinnaker sail for some kind of shade. CW members welcome to come by for a beer or a dark-n-stormy.

Fishing with Jerry on Friday. Can't wait!!

The water is up, and some of the docks are usable, the lake hasn't been this high since August of 2007. Now if only we can get a tropical storm or two to park themselves over Lanier for a week or two....

Nauti Tauk
Menemsha69
Murphy
Jmorgan40
1980Montauk
mgeiger

Phil22
John Leatham

That is a pretty good showing, let's see if we can get a few more boats.

superdave_gv posted 04-24-2009 08:27 AM ET (US)     Profile for superdave_gv  Send Email to superdave_gv

Matt is breaching a confidentiality agreement regarding ribs. If he wasn't so darn great at cleaning up boats (including mine) he would be in trouble! He has the Cohasset looking good with a nice coat of wax.

Incidentally, I punted on the brass drain tube project since the lower tube is ok. The upper has corroded will probably need the motor off to do it right. Add that up and you can see why I am not entrusting our local gelcoat shop with turning around that job before May 30th. So I did the lame but easily reversable PVC and caulk method for now.

The ribs take about 5 hours. I could make up some the day before if needed and bring them to be reheated on a grill at Willy's. Otherwise I can just bring something else. Boiled peanuts would be fun.

We will have plenty of room to tie boats to the dock (3 sides) then folks can raft off from the ones on the Dock. Becuse we are deep in the cove there is little or no wave action. I have a 3 burner Weber gas grill with a side burner to heat /grill out items, also have power on the dock if someone needs to plug anything in (crockpot etc.)
I am thinking of making a big pot of Gumbo..., or grill a few burgers, whatever the crowd wants, I am good with.
Looking forward to the 30th

Looking forward to the 30th. Any word back from our contact at Whaler regarding the promo items?

If no one has volunteered yet, I'll bring the plates, forks and napkins.

Will be out there Saturday, rain or shine. Let me know if anyone will be out as well.

Willy- I took a run up your way yesterday. I found the 11C marker, but didn't have time to explore! Really nice, quiet spot you have. I emailed you yesterday as well, hope this is not a problem, let me know.

All- I plan on launching from East Bank at around 8 a.m. on Saturday the 30th, for a long run up the lake! Should be fun!-k

Looks like things are comming together just right. I am open to what folks want to do time wise... lets just say we can meet at the Dock by 10:30, try to eat around 12:30 (give others time to make it) and play by ear any events after lunch, speaking of which, I think to keep it simple and make sure people get fed, I was thinking of getting a good supply of Hamburgers and hotdogs just to make sure we have that basic covered, then whatever sides, main type dishes people want they can sure bring, just a reminder, I have power (for a crock pot etc) or a have a side burner on the weber if someone needs to heat something. Lets try to get a headcount per boat for food reasons, I will have my wife and two kids 9yr old girl and 11yr, old boy, one last item , make sure to bring any fenders you own with you, we will raft off the Dock to park everyone, (3 sides) keep in mind I am deep in a cove around the coner from the Chestatee with little /no wave action. Also as you come back to the Dock you will need to be idle speed (kind of a no-brainer, however lots of people don't know the 100 feet of a Dock rule), I've got some of the best neighbors on the planet, however when some bass boat planes off to leave our cove they kind of freak out. Let me know what I am missing.
Thanks

Bringing my fiancee to continue the growing female count.

Will probably put in at Balus Creek near my house. A thought would be to put in at Clarks Bridge free ramp and run under all the bridges for a leisurely ride in. But the big "Whaler fleet" run up the lake is pretty sweet. Decisions, decisions. Much better to be in the 16'7" vs the 13. Reminds me of the 13 getting airborne witnessed by the Alabama crew that will be here again this year!

My contribution to the food will be a Sam's club 3-pack of baby-back ribs cooked the day before. They're just as good cold or we could heat em up on a grill.

Great reminder about the fenders. Thanks again Willy for the hospitality!

Although neither owners have logged in to this site, there is the chance that we may have another Menemsha, and a Katama at the Rendezvous! Murray, the owner of the 73 Katama that joined us two years ago at Holiday Marina for lunch says he should be there. There is also a chance that Jeff, a Menemsha owner in Marietta, will attend. Could be an interesting turnout of classics!-k

Getting excited here fellas. I went out this morning just to run the old 2-stroke, try the new NFB steering, test my new bunk setup and do a little fishing. It seems I was giving away a free herring breakfast this morning, at least I was getting hits. Wow - the lake is really up.

Seeing as next weekend is MDW - I'll be avoiding the water like the swine flu, so I topped off my tanks on my way home in preparation for the run up to 11C. Now it's time to clean the old boat up for the 'Vous.

Sounds like the meat is covered. I'll pick up an assortment of chips, and bring some extra drinks.

mgeiger,
I'm the fairly recent buyer of a 91 Montauk. (in the "its a small world department" I was the previous owner of Joe Morgan's very nice 20' Outrage :). What are you asking for the Mills top? I won't be able to make the rendezvous but I am in Atlanta. Also, I'm curious, what are you going to do for a top? Just do without or getting a new one? Mine has a bimini top but it mounts on a slide track on the gunwales outside the side rails. Not nearly as clean a design as the Mills in my opinion. (which I think mounts to the inside face of the gunwale.
Just let me know.
Thanks,
Rob

Heading to Savannah this weekend for my high school reunion so won't be in the lake this weekend either. I have the console torn up re-wiring it so I may have to take off work next week to finish it up so I can even come! Whatever it takes. :)

Looking so forward to the 30th, (headed up to the Lakehouse this afternoon for the weedend) I want to let everyone know my plan and get some help with things we are missing, I will provide 36 hamburgers, 16 hot dogs and buns, I have all of the condiments. I assume everyone will BYOB (soft drinks, juice boxes, beer or what ever it takes for whoever is on your boat)Therefore I need some folks to bring Plates, forks, any sides, chips etc, napkins. If we come up short of something, I think we can find what we need in the house, please look this over and tell me/us what we are missing, one last item as stated before, the Dock will be ready to receive guest by 10:30am, lets eat at 12:30 and go from there.
Thanks

Glad you found it no problem, The lift the little 13 Dauntless is on is new, just installed it 10 days ago, Had a heck of a time finding one for the weight of that boat (1000lbs) I wanted a 1500lb capacity (so I can move up) but in the boat lift world, they make a min 4000 lb lift or something for a jet ski, nothing in between. Look forward to seeing everyone on the 30th

Hello everyone.

I'm still planning to attend but had some motor problems today. My 70 hp Johnson was starving for fuel. I had to keep squeezing the primer bulb just to keep it running on plane.. Even then it would occasionally and abruptly cut off.

I'm thinking a leak in the fuel line somewhere is letting in air? or perhaps the carberator has some varnish build up? Strangely, I ran it for a few hours six weeks ago and it ran great. The gas was fresh.. Any suggestions??

Menemsha69 posted 05-24-2009 08:36 PM ET (US)     Profile for Menemsha69  Send Email to Menemsha69
John- I would post this in the repairs mods section for a wider response. Try to include more details about what exactly is happening, especially with the primer bulb (stays firm, collapsing, etc...). Hope to see you there! -k
mgeiger posted 05-24-2009 09:41 PM ET (US)     Profile for mgeiger
John - I've been known to forget to open my vent screw on occasion. That will make it run lean to say the least. How old is the fuel line? I'm thinking a dirty carb would not just rear it's head all of a sudden (neither would an old fuel line, but you gotta start somewhere).

Good luck with it. It's certainly better to have more boats out there, but if you - or anyone - needs a ride, let me know. mgeiger72(at)gmail(dot)com.

Thanks guys... I did post in the repairs section.. The vent was open and the bulb was normal. It might be sucking air. The fuel line is about 5 years old. Boat is garage kept and covered. It should be in great shape.

I have 40 hamburber patties and 16 hot dogs,(and buns and condiments etc) someone is bringing paper products, and some others have mentioned sides (chips) etc, If everyone will BYOB your beverages, everyone bring some sort of side, or dessert etc, (my wife is making two pans of brownies)I don't think we have any drama, just a good time to look forward to. The weather for Gainesville tomorrow is 84, sunny and 0% chance of rain, remember to bring fenders and noodles etc if you want to swiw by the Dock, (I have 7-9 or so noodles). I am really excited about tomorrow and look forward to meeting everyone, I need to do a couple hrs of work now, (staying employeed is a good thing these days) and I will be unable to view this site after about 2:00pm today if all goes well (no internet at the lake!) Ribs are done as of 9:30pm to complement Jerry's BBQ. Shooting for lunch time at the dock, launch at Balus Creek around 11. Just had the boat out Tuesday on Lake Rabun so it's ready to go for 2009. Will be great seeing the folks new and old.

We had a GREAT time! The food was great, thanks to all who cooked the burgers, brats, pork, ribs, brownies, cake, etc. A big thank you to Wil and Mary Beth for hosting this at their dock- a great place. Also, thanks to Traci for the goodies.

I enjoyed seeing some new faces and seeing the old crew also. It was very cool to see two Menemsha's there.

All who took pictures post them when you can since we forgot our camera also.

Quite a collection of Whalers represented. Most were 16/17's spanning nearly 4 decades. Also a banana boat and 14/15? dauntless. Many fine OEM examples, lots of Whaler history. Really a great day on Lanier.

Looks like everyone had a great time. It seems like a beautiful part of the country. I take it that the Lake level is no longer an issue.

Great pics...

Wow, what a dock: it has party central written all over.

Great photos of Whalers and nice weather also.

If this becomes an annual event I would love to attend.

I normally keep my boat at West Point Lake, however right now she is resting in Charleston, South Carolina.

Will if you are lurking I'd like to take this opportunity to send a heart felt thankyou from Lois and I. Mary Beth and your kids were just a joy to be around. Your home and dock are lovely and the dock in particular is just perfect for getting together. Maybe you'd allow us to do it again!?Once again many thanks from the Nauti-Tauk crew.

P.S. you cook a mighty fine burger Will.

To all my new Whaler friends, Marybeth and I (my kids as well) had a blast and enjoyed every minute of it. We would do it again without hesitation! I have been busy so sorry for the slow posting, I have some good pics but struggle with photobucket, if Kevin or someone else will shoot me an e-mail, I'll put a password on you and you can assist in getting them up. I printed a 8X11 of the group on a photo printer, it makes me smile everytime I look at it, we are going to frame it and put it over the bar. The family is off to Orange Beach this Friday for 7-8 days or so, going to take the Dauntless, it needs to feel the salt water again, (OK all of you fresh water purist... its OK E-TEC's and others can run in salt) we will be looking for you guys on the lake!

Will- I will be glad to post pics, but how about emailing them to me, that way I can add them to my Photobucket account as well as forward them to whoever wants one.
The same goes for others that have pics, but no time to post them, feel free to email the fullsized jpeg to me, and I'll add them to the slideshow. (C'mon Garey, cough em' up!!!)-k
