Okay it's been a couple of months since the last get together, time to start thinking about fall. It's a ways off yet but start thinking about the particulars. I was thinking late September but am wide open for dates.

Jerry, that is kind of depressing to think that Summer is almost over. Being at Wil's place has got me and the missus to thinking of what it would take to move onto lake property with a dock...then I could go Whalerin 7 days a week. :-)

God willing, count us in.

Fishing sounds great if the piscatorial adversary will cooperate! The fishing has been terrible for both Kev and me the last two or three trips! Murphy, that's great news, when does construction on the new lake front house begin? Let's put something together in the next month or so. Does anybody have a tentative date to shoot for or dates that are definitely out?

Jerry,

Construction begins as soon as I win the lottery!

Lanier gang,
I am up/ open for another event for sure, The Dock is available for the site if you would like. My situation is my kids are starting football and cheerleading with Sat. games. i.e. any weekend is good for us, however we can't do it on a Sat. I am open for a Sunday but realize this will cause some conflict with Church and other obligations, but we could shoot for noon or so. By all means I want to join in/host, but wanted everyone to know our "deal" for the fall. hope to see everyone soon.

I will echo Wil's remarks about Saturdays. I am coaching both boy's soccer teams this fall so my Saturdays are all spoken for until the season is over.

Went out today, at dinner at the new Tiki Hut and it was very good. Also, very nice layout with the tables on the lawn. Perfect time to get there is right after the sun goes down behind the trees...nice and cool.

I am thinking that if we want to do this in September that we should pick a Sunday afternoon.

I'm okay with Sunday afternoons, not sure about others with church though. Not familiar with the restaurant. where's it located, always love to try new places.

Lake Lanier Islands harbor. Stay left as you come into the harbor and you will find your way to their courtesy dock. The Tiki Hut sits right outside the water park.
Murphy posted 08-31-2009 11:58 PM ET (US)     Profile for Murphy  Send Email to Murphy
I am a little bit surprised to see so little interest. I will make a suggestion- since we are all very busy back into the school routine, maybe we could keep this low key and just meet for a late lunch...maybe at the Tiki Hut on a Sunday. That would give us enough time to go to early church, and the hit the lake. The Tiki Hut has a nice bar, and not having to prepare food would make it more of a low-key low-hassle get together.

I am thinking late September, maybe 2pm on a Sunday afternoon....after which if some folks wanted to do some sunset Striper fishing that would also be possible.

What do you say folks?

Let's start an informal head count to see if there are enough folks interested. A Sunday thing sounds good to me but 2 may be a little late for lunch. You can count us, Lois and I,in as always.

I'm interested but the Sept 27th won't work for me. October is less definite. In other words, don't schedule on my account. I'm interested but then again I'm always late!! Not sure why the interest is lower so far for this one.

Our family is in, if we do a south lake gig, can we come down in the Chaparral... or will we be booed and hissed at and kicked out of "the club", sort of kidding here, however, family of 4 in the 13, 10-15 mile cruise, you get my drama,

So far so good for the two of us. Cookout is okay too but let's find a place where we can have some tables to cook/eat on, and a place for the girls to be a little more comfortable if the "need" arises. What ever we decide it'll have to go along way to top the last get together at Wills dock on the river. For those that missed it that was a homerun! Let me know what you want Lois and I to bring. I'll do a pork shoulder if you like. Maybe Dave will do the ribs again, man they were good. I still have the small gas grill if we need it. just let me know.

Count me in as well.

Will, I sympathize with you...we put the 5 of us in our 13 for two years on the lake before getting the Outrage. Your Dauntless rides better than my 13, but I am with you and would rather ride in the Chaparral for that distance. It just means you have to bring the liquor. :-)

RM

P.S. Don't tell the law, but one unfortunate day on the lake when a storm cloud came up...we fit 10 people in the 13 and ran for cover...4 adults and 6 kids. We looked like the Beverly Hillbillys...but the 13 did a stellar job...and the 48 SPL planed us out at a nice 25mph clip.

Murphy posted 09-08-2009 11:43 PM ET (US)     Profile for Murphy  Send Email to Murphy
I have to amend my above statement to read "Count me in if I have a boat working to transport me".

Last time I was on the lake in the 19 my throttle decided to break and not go into forward anymore. The 13 was down in Savannah, just picked it up this weekend and it has decided to not run at all. And to top it all off...went fishing with my Dad and on the way to our second fishing hole the alarm went off on his Evinrude and we had to putt-putt all the way back to the dock.

Murphy's law.

Will you and your family are the best! Thank you. I say let's make it frim then at Wills on the 4th @noon. Southend boats meet at East Bank and come up and those of us up north can get together at one of the ramps and come down. Laurel Park, Little River, Clarks Bridge? The alternative is for the north boats to just catch as catch can and meet @ Wills.

Wow - the rain has pushed the lake up a few feet. 1066.91 right now. Hasn't been this high in a long time. I bet we'll see it go a good bit higher. 100 year drought to 100 year rainfall totals. Go figure.

Hope everyone is staying dry.

Lanier is over 1,067 now!!! 4ft under full pool. This is the highest it's been since June 3, 2007. What a ride.

Taking me way back down memory lane. I had just upgraded my dock in late May 2007 thanks to craigslist and some great helpers.

The lake had hovered at just over 1,068 for a couple of months. George (gcarlil) and another friend of mine towed the dock from it's previous owner to the back of Balus Creek. Took a weekday off and had steaks waiting for us back at the finish line, my house. It was around 8 miles up the lake towing with the 1974 13' Sport and 48 Evinrude. I was super (as in over!) prepared. Tons of caribiners, 2 auto tow ropes, some chain. Would have pushed it if we had a pontoon boat. Hugged the shoreline the whole way, George running flanker in his 13', keeping any wake-makers at bay. When we got to the back of Balus Creek, the curves of the creek made it even more fun. My friend stood back on the dock to check for depth and do some paddling. Each time he went left and right, the inertia of the dock would pull the stern of the boat back and forth. Even without the distraction, we may never have seen what was coming next. There we were, surrounded by Ninjas...

Ok, forgive me the last part. I'm more than a little excited the lake is back for me, way off the main channel with the heron and the beavers.

I hate to miss this gathering had such a great time this spring. I'm going to be in Florida for a few weeks. I think last full pool was 09/2005. In this months edition of Lakeside News Glenn Beck has a article about the rains of September 04 setting records.

Dave, Pulled the 13 out retirement and taking it to Fl. hope to do some skinny water exploring.

Murphy,Found the diving rock you posted about, 25 years boating on the lake and did not know about that one.

Enjoy the party, George

I have been following this thread. I recall the photos from the double decker party dock from the last rendezvous; what a beautiful site.

The weather also looks spectacular for Sunday; 76 degrees and mostly sunny.

I am going to try to attend. It may just be me. I'll bring a dessert.

I live in Fayetteville, GA on the Southside. I am very familiar with driving up GA 400 and launching from Charleston Landing (I kept my boat there one year). Would someone recommend a closer ramp and driving directions.

I will be flying solo. I have a bunch of water in my cooler and will have a few other beverages to share. What else can I bring?

I'll see you all at East Bank. Note: There is a sailing regatta this weekend, and they'll be running their final Race Sunday about the time we ride North... should make for some nice scenery if we opt to stay in the main channel. Just be sure to give those guys room.

I was at the Dock today, everything is just right, at 1069, there is plenty of water. I noticed a few were bringing pork products (always good by me), In light of my schedule Sunday, i.e. won't get there till 11:15 or so, am I allowed to "just show up" with some beverages of course. As always I have the grill to heat items, I will bring anything anyone needs from the house. Just lookes like we are OK on food, if I am wrong, let me know and I will correct it.
See everyone Sunday at the Dock, Noon start time,
Thanks,

Hey Philip, hope you can make it back to Lanier! Matt (mgeiger) posted a link that lets you move the map around and see all the ramps. Pretty cool. Wet Willy's dock is in the cove due West from Little Hall ramp (the cove is Southwest of the bridge over 53). To get to Little Hall, go up 400 and take a right on 53 just after the Dawsonville outlet mall.

The thread from earlier this year has tons of info. The location, 11C market, GPS coords, possible ramps.
http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/001036.html

Looks like we're good on pork. I will make some chicken drumsticks (lemon pepper, BBQ or something). Not sure yet if it will be me or me and the missus-to-be yet.

All important FISHING UPDATE: Since the lake has been up, I have already caught two baby Largemouth Bass off my dock. They were long babies, about 10", surely not more than a pound, though, if even. But they fought the drag on the little 4' rod pretty good!!! I used my Lowchance mental telepathy fishfinder and a white spinner, early evening time. Take that, all you Striper champs!!

HI Kevin,

I can't wait to see your Menemsha in person.

I'll plan on being at East Bank Park (by the Dam Store) around 11::00 AM on Sunday.

I looked at directions on mapquest.

985 North
Friendship Road
Left on McEver Road

Is that the best route?

Regards, Philip

Menemsha69 posted 09-30-2009 09:17 PM ET (US)     Profile for Menemsha69  Send Email to Menemsha69
Phillip- You've got the wrong Dam Store! There are actually two Dam Stores, one near the Dam, and the other is the one you mapquested. It's a long drawn out story, filled with drama, deception, and litigation, so I won't go into it here. The simplest way to get to East Bank Park from I-85 is pretty easy:

Take I-85 north through town to exit 111 (Lawrenceville-Suwannee Rd./ SR317) and go left on SR317 toward Suwannee.

Go through the town of Suwannee, and over Old Peachtree Rd.(Lawrenceville-Suwannee Rd. becomes Suwannee Dam Rd.).
Follow Suwannee Dam Rd. until it intersects with Buford Dam Rd., go through that intersection (the original Dam Store will be the only building on the right)and continue into East Bank Park.
It's roughly 7-10 miles all told from I-85 to East Bank.

Essentially Lawrenceville-Suwannee Rd. becomes Suwannee Dam Rd. which dead ends at East Bank Park. -k

I smoked a Sam's Club pack of drumsticks. 6 lemon pepper, 8 jamaican, 7 BBQ (after I ate one). What kind of baker's dozen is 22 legs in a pack? Anyway, should heat up nice on the grill. Sounds like we are good to go on meat / entree, maybe low on sides and beverages.

Putting in at Balus, not sure what time. If early enough, will head South on the lake. Looking forward to seeing everybody!

Great time, we got lucky the rain held out. Thanks Will for hosting and all the food was great. Whoever made the salad with avacado, grape tomatoes, cilantro, etc -- that was really good.

The run up the lake was a blast! Thanks for stopping outside Flat Creek. See y'all in the Spring if not before and on here until then.

Signed,
September 28th to October 4th Lake Lanier Fishing Champ

AFR!! Another fine rendevous. The pictures came out great. Many thanks Will for the use of your dock again. If anyone didn't get the word, Will has graciously extended the invite for the May 2010 get together as well. Although none of the Florida folks were able to join us, I hope a bunch of yall will come down to the Hommassas get together in Feburary. It's a heck of a good time and the resort we stay at is right on the water and we found it reasonably priced.
Again, thanks Will. Lois and I will look forward to seeing some of you in Florida.

Well better late than never. Darn Atlanta traffic ARGGH!

I left the house 15 minutes late (9:45 AM). Downtown Atlanta is doing weekend paving on the North bound lanes only and I got stuck in the mess this morning. Heading home South at the end of the day was a breeze. North bound was even worse.

My wife made the post when I was lost. Next time I will get a cell phone number from someone. However, I also know where Will's place is now.

Will, Thank you for your hospitality. It was really a great time. Great food and tons of it. I enjoyed meeting some new folks and comparing all the different Whalers rafted together.

Count me in for Hommassas in 2010. I have never taken my boat to Florida and am anxious to meet the gang.

Wil, as always you are a great host and I enjoyed seeing you again. The boys and I had a great time, thanks to all who brought the food- great stuff. I had some of those brats and chicken for dinner...good stuff. My only regret is not getting enough of Jerry's pork.

Matt, nice talking to you at the rock, now you know where it is. We made it back without serious rain, just a few sprinkles.

Philip, sorry you got stuck in the traffic, that was a bummer.

See you guys out on the lake.

It was nice meeting folks and talking boats at Will's. It should come as no surprise that these cool little boats come with interesting and fun owners.
Nancy's camera has been acting out with poor focus,
but if any shots are worth seeing I will send them along.
Thanks for including me and I hope to come again.
