It's that time again, looking for input on the Great Lakes Boston Whaler Cruising Club Holiday Rendezvous.

Nancy & I are again willing to host the event at our home in Farmington Hills, Mi. That being said if anyone else has an overwhelming desire to host the event, we will stand down, so someone else can have a turn

A couple of related items when choosing dates, Matt Bosch will be back from Afghanistan for Thanksgiving and about 2 weeks after. I would like to schedule it while he is home so he can join us. I would also like to schedule it for a Saturday, so that we can do the Boating related Field Trip during the day and the dinner in the evening. Jeff Rohlfing mentioned that Mike Stenett from Nautical Lumber was thinking of doing another open house to coincide with the Rendezvous. Lastly I think if we can do it early to Mid December it would be less likely to interfere with other Christmas Plans attendees may have.

So have at it list a date, menuy ideas, etc, etc,

Pat

Just got an e-mail from Matt, he will be home until the 11th of December (Friday) He leaves that day.

That pretty much leaves December 5, 2009 as a Saturday date for the Rendezvous that he would be available for. He said not to plan it around him, but I think it would be nice to have him aboard.

What Say You all?

Long term (384 hour) GFS forecast is looking grim for Dec. 4. 20 degree temperatures and 30 mph winds off lake Michigan. Fire up the snow plows.

If, IF that forecast holds (this particular model often jumps the gun for snow in our region), I'll be making the drive over early Saturday morning after the plows have had a chance to work....

:)

Looking forward to it though.

I've inched slightly closer this evening.

Getting Patricia enough time off to make the 1400-mile round-trip drive is proving to be my biggest hurdle.

I'll let the planners and counters know as soon as we've decided we can commit.

A few suggestions: maybe someone can bring some wine, Chips & Salsa / Chips & Dip or other appetizers, as you decide cut & paste this list & add your contributions.

Mike & Debbie are doing their open house lunch at Nautical Lumber so they don't need to bring anything for the night time festivities.

Dave & Patty Pendelton - "Truck load of Beer"

Talked to Dave Zamit at Lockeman's there all set for us Saturday Morning they open at 9:00AM

Also Talked to Mike Stennet at Nautical Lumber and gave him the approximate number of 14 for his luncheon, I based this number on the assumption that as in past years a lot of the local attendee's wives didn't attend the daytime "Field Trip" portion of the rendezvous. If you get a chance chime in on any local wives, etc that are attending so we can let him know a better number.

I'll bring the usual brownies. Suzanne won't be able to make it until sometime after 8:30 pm. Looks like I won't be able to make the daytime activities. Commitments at work for both of us are messing up priorities again.

Pat,
If there is anything else you would like me to bring let me know.

I'm leaving West Mich heading to the party. Been on the phone w/ Sheila a few times this week. She reminded me the first party we attended I called her and passed the phone around. So I am going to carry on the tradition.

I will also have my MacBook Pro with me - 17 - perhaps we can do some VIDEO chats with some of the Whaler Fans across the country and world.

I'll leave that up to the host and regulars - maybe put something on Facebook.

On the road.

The Great Lakes Boston Whaler Cruising Club Holiday Rendezvous 2009 was a big success. Many thanks to our several hosts:

Lockeman's Boat and Hardware--Dave and Dorothy Zammitt hosted a big group of GLBWCC members and friends in the morning. The shop coffee was delicious. The demonstration of the three-cylinder two-cycle engine power head tear down was very interesting. Many new photographs were added to the GLBWCC Bulletin Board. Lots of stories told.

Nautical Lumber--Mike and family welcomed us for a tour of his factory and a delicious luncheon. Mike's skills at custom wood work with precision laser-cut inset designs were on display and very impressive. The stock of fine teak and mahogany mixed with the rich aroma of sawdust inspired us all to vow to take better care of our boats' wooden components.

Dinner Party--Pat and Nancy again very graciously hosted everyone for our annual dinner party. The food was spectacular, the beer and wine very carefully selected to match, and the conversation lively all evening.

I thought Dave and Patty (TAMPICO) were certain to win the award for longest distance travelled to attend (driving from Minnesota), but Matt (Mateobosch) edged them out--flying in from Afghanistan!

Let's Go Boating!

"Let's Go Boating"

Jim: where shall we go? We have 6 inches of snow on the ground and the temp is 31. Forecast is for "lake effect" snow for most of the week with a real snow storm Wednesday and Thursday and much colder temps.

I propose we all head to L.A., that is Lower Alabama, it will be sunny and warm.

My father and I had a great time at Lockemans and Nautical Lumber catching up with everyone and dinner at Pat and Nancey's was really nice as always. Looking forward to the game on Wednesday!

Here are some shots from Lockeman's and Nautical....though I just realized I shot most of the images while everyone was hanging out, out of frame.
