Myself and four friend are heading down the Potomac River to the Chesapeake, Smith Point, for a striper fishing trip this weekend, 11/7/09. Weather is expected to be good. I will post pictures of our great sucess, hopefully.

I look forward to hearing about your trip and seeing some photos, Black Dog.

In less than two weeks, I'll be doing the same. Loading up a buddy, my young son and my Outrage, then trucking down to Yorktown for a week to fish the CBBT, the HRBT and perhaps even the York River if weather conditions dictate.

I made a similar trip in 2007 and enjoyed it immensely. The results left me wanting a trophy opportunity though.

Justin – good luck, hopefully the weather will be better than the past few weekends. This is a great time of year for striper fishing. Hope to get out this weekend in the middle bay myself as long as the weather holds. One of my Verados is having “fuel issues” so I am going to try get out in the trusty 17, which isn’t the most comfortable in cold, windy 2-3 ft waves.

Good luck to you Justin. I'll be heading out Sunday am for the gas platform area to try my luck. It has been snotty the last few weekends on the bay. It has been a month since I've been able to get the Montauk in the water.

Would like to get out Saturday and Sunday, but commitments got me all tied up on Saturday. Sunday I will be out near Thomas Pt and the South River. We've been scoring on 20-24" Rock on tandem bucktails for a couple weeks. Good Luck to all!

We may be in your neighborhood on Sunday. No formal plan, but anything Thomas Point south to Sharps Island light will be fair game. Like to see if some of the bigger fish have fount their way into the area. Best,

Well,we got back Sunday around 4PM and what a great trip we had. The fish count was not as high as we would have liked, 5 medium stripers on Saturday & 1 med-large, 38", on Sunday, but I learned alot about all of my new fishing gear. Here are some pictures that I took. I will be adding more that my buddies took as well.

Sunday for us was fairly quiet... not as much on the scope as the previous weeks. Didn't see anyone catching anything. We picked up two stripers about 24". Perfect size!

We (4 of us) were fishing out in front of Deale starting at 7:30 in about 45' of water. Had 7 by 10:00, and then it went dead. Most were smaller fish in the 24" range. I think the larger fish are still making their way up the Bay. All were caught on tandem rigs; not even a strike on 2 umbrella rigs-wierd. Lots of boats, but didn't notice to many other fish being landed.

Yesterday's liars reports stated that the ocean run rock have entered the bay and are in the ship channel off the Potomac and Patuxent Rivers. Go get 'em guys!

If anybody's looking for a mate or "Boat Ho" or just someone to share gas bill, give me a shout.

I am working in Annapolis, but don't have my Whaler with me:( However, with this week's storm I don't think I missed anyone getting out. Good news is the storm will probably speed the migration up the Bay.

It's been a few years since I've fished the Bay for Rock.

Someone holler when the bigger Rock make it up to the mouth of Eastern Bay. Weather should be fish-able at least through mid-week.

Will try Tuesday. Don't know whether I'll go out of the West River or Ches Beach.... will keep everyone posted.

Sorry to double post here... my tackle shop in Edgewater says they have checked in several 40" Rock over the past several days... they are on your side near Bloody Pt and buoy 85. Try water from 30 -60 ft. With all the fresh water, they have been fishing a little deeper than they have lately.

The big ones do not appear to have come up to the middle bay in great numbers-yet. We were out Sunday trolling between the gas docks and Solomons(Patuxent river) in 50-60ft and it appeared that few if any were having any luck. The only rock we saw was on the tail gate of some guys pickup on Solomons main drag. Huge though, just about as long as the tail gate was wide. Will be to cold to go out in the montauk much anymore. Maybe next year.

Edgewater tackle shop...would that be Marty's?

yes....I wasn't sure I could name names!

Still only 24" inch Stripers out there. Mostly around West River 1. Kinda rough in the morning. That's when you wish you had a cuddy instead of a center console. I had my wet suit and was glad for it!

I may take a crack at landing some larger Rock Monday or Tuesday, and then lay up for the winter. Any bigger fish up past Bloody Pt or Herring Bay?

I went out 2 weekends ago from chesapeake beach for a two day trip with my budy. Unfortunately I didn't boat a single fish those days but my friend managed to land a small 24" and a fat 42" 25lbs fish. The fishing should get better but the weather will only get colder. Looking to go out this thanksgiving weekend like friday, saturday and possibly sunday. Wouldn't mind getting together please email me If you want to make the trip.

It looks like Saturday and Sunday are good bets, as long as the wind holds down. That is my achilles heel - winds - with a 17 footer. I might even look at Friday pm. Is there still a ramp across the road from the Rod-n-Reel? It used to be Kellams? There was a water park there as well... it's been many years since I used that ramp...

Was out Sunday for awhile out of the West River. Not a soul was on the western side. The whole world was off Kent Island and Bloody Pt. Lots on the scope, only the usual suspects (24 inchers) were in the cooler... it was a traffic jam out there with the number of boat and everyone with their planer boards....

Watched all the action from our house on Kent Island. From Gum thickets all the way down to Bloody Point – you would have thought it was opening day in the spring. Beautiful day though – was tempted to go

Four days left in Striper season? And the weather doesn't look like it is cooperating! I wish I could have gotten out Tuesday. That was probably the last nice day.

Went out yesterday with a mind to drop a few lines in and then head to have the boat pulled, but the wind kicked up late morning and I packed it in. No other boats in sight.
