The Tall Ship Challange comes to the Great Lakes in July. For those who cannot make the ports(Bay City,Deluth,Green Bay,Chicago) maybe an intercept at the Locks or Detour or the Bridge. The assumption is they will travel to the Ports together. The Straghts should be about July 31.They are truly special and endangered.Armistadt(sp)was going to be with them but is very hurt.Anybody know more?

I would be interested in checking out the Tall Ships under the bridge or as they make their way past Mackincac Island. I have sailed on one of these ships and I seriously doubt they will be lined up to cross under the bridge together. They are making their way to Green Bay to arrive on August 12 so they will more likely cross under the bridge about the 9th or 10th. Where are you located? I am in Petoskey. Dave

Spoke to a friend that saw the Ships in Bay City.Impressive! I am located at Torch Lake and would trailer my Outrage to an appropriate weather/water launch.I am hoping Summer guest visits do not conflict.Which Ship were you on?I crewed on Yankee clipper this Spring on her transit from Nassau to Boston.

If I can work it out and if the weather is good enough, I would leave Petoskey in my BW Outrage 24 headed to the Bridge. About 2 hours in good weather. If the weather is marginal then I would likely trailer maybe to St. Ignace and then go from there. I see that several of these ships are leving Sault Ste. Marie on August 8 so they might come under the bridge in the middle of the night. I am trying to get some info on that. Dave

We will see if this Tall Ship tracker works.

In the summer of 1976 I woke up to a beautiful sun rise with the Christian Radich at anchor in front of my house on Suttons Bay. After that I always thought people used the term tall ship very loosely. The Christian Radich truly is a tall ship.

The "Tall Ships" visited Newport, Rhode Island in 1976. I was eleven years old.

The Christian Radich was also there.

The real star of the show, and I remember this even as a youth, was the Krusenstern.
