Very doubtful and it may conflict with a possible 2011 Isle Royale trip.

I'll be there with my crew sporting commemorative t-shirts (dorks)...if my Montauk hasn't sold yet.
We had a GREAT time last year. Thanks for making the arrangements.

I remember reading something on a previous thread about a boating safety requirement by the state (NY or NJ?). Is that correct? I live in Maryland.

Thanks.

Jim,

Nice to see your doing this again. This is always one of the best all around Whaler events.

Lots of Whalers and lots of great people and just the most spectacular boating scenery anywhere.

Jim, You always make sure the facilities are available, the itinerary is well thought out, and the event is always very well attended. Going up the Hudson River from the Statue is just a breath taking whaler ride and should not be missed.

In the past we had convoys head up from different places around the country, even making that an interesting and enjoyable trip with other Whaler folks.

Weather you have done this trip and event before,or not, this is a special event to put on your calendar, and attend.

Henry "THE YIDDIL" will be there with bells on:)

The topic of New Jersey's requirements was discussed on the thread for last year's trip ( http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum7/HTML/001140.html ).

I'm not sure what exactly NY does.

As a Vessel Examiner for the CG Aux, I will be doing Vessels Safety checks to all who want one,as I did at one of the previous events, and I will bring the paperwork and stickers.

I would imagine like most states, NY has some type of boater safety class requirements to go along with the federal ones.

Anyone who needs one can let me know in advance of the event and I can prepare the number of forms and stickers needed.

N.Y. and N.J. both require a boaters saftey card....you must only be compliant with the regulations from the state in which you reside...As long as you are a Maryland resident and the boat is registered in Maryland, you have no problem here.

NYS requires a safety card only for PWC's and for youths, and will cross honor cards from other states.

From the NYS Parks website:

quote:
You must hold a safety certificate if:

You operate a personal watercraft and are at least 14 years of age. Until 2009 operators age 10-13 can still operate with restrictions. Click on Navigation Law updates for complete information.
You wish to operate a motorboat (other than a personal watercraft) and you are at least 10 years old and less than 18 years old.
If you are less than 10 years old you may operate a motorboat (non-PWC) only if someone over 18 is on board with you. Anyone may operate a personal watercraft if someone at least 18 years old is riding on the craft and they hold a safety certificate.

Count me in. I will be launching from Liberty State Park that morning. My wife likes the "safety in numbers" aspect of the trip.

(She remembers how someone had engine trouble and 4 or 5 fellow Whalers were there to help immediately.)

I anyone else going to be headed back down to Liberty State Park after lunch/mingling in Haverstraw?

Hi, count me in too. I will be more than happy to provide photography work for the event. We do commercial and destination wedding photography. We also have an underwater housing should we wanted to do some more crazy photos. I will need not able to make it on my boat as it's a tiny 15'. Let me know. david@dlauphoto.com

Jon,

I hope to go, but if I can pull it off, I will likely be solo.

My daughters are getting home from Girl Scout camp that day, and the following day we are leaving for The Outer Banks.

If I do go, I too will put in at Liberty State Park.

Yesterday, we cruised about 3/4 of this trip, running from Liberty State Park to Piermont.

I will touch base as we get closer to the date.

Unfortunately I will not be able to make it this year, getting ready for a knee replacement. Last year was great.

Last year I was concerned about the certification required by NJ but it was all for naught. Just go and have a good time.

I am out this year as well.

We are leaving for The Outer Banks a day earlier than we originally planned.

Everybody have fun, and take some good pictures.

Wasn't there just a big sewage spill which remains an ongoing problem and closing the Harlem river?

closing = closed
themclos posted 07-27-2011 08:23 PM ET (US)     Profile for themclos  Send Email to themclos
The NJDEP today still says "levels in the Hudson remain higher than normal, and officials continue to “strongly advise” New Jersey residents to refrain from recreational uses of the river, including swimming, kayaking, jet skiing or fishing and crabbing."

They do not mention boating.

Several beaches in Staten Island and Queens were closed. I do not know if they remain closed.

I was one of only four boats that showed up at the statue! I guess a little raw sewage scared most people away?! My crew of seven and I ran around Manhattan solo. Always a good time, but would have been better with a few hundred more Whalers!

That's a shame. Sorry I couldn't be there but I now, as of this week, live in Florida.

I wasn't able to make the trip but I think that going upriver one way turned off some people. I know personally that my family wanted to do a Manhattan circuit.

Just my opinion.

Jon
