Each year, a group of 40-50 somewhat insane swimmers cross the 7.5-mile wide mouth of the Potomac River from Hull Neck, Virginia to Point Lookout, Maryland in an event to raise money for a variety of Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay organizations. And each year, a group of Boston Whalers (and honorary Boston Whalers) provides safety escort duty.

The swim is an all-day event on Saturday, and includes a spaghetti dinner on Friday night and a beach barbecue Saturday afternoon. I have a limited number of motel (okay, "rustic fish camp") rooms available for boaters. There is also camping space available at Point Lookout State Park.

The official website for the event is .

If you're new to the event, you can get a little flavor of it here and here ?action=view¤t=potomacswim.mp4 . Though I have to say, the weather was particularly nice that year -- it isn't always like that at the mouth of the Potomac.

If you'd like to participate, please email me (see the address in my profile).
