Back by popular demand... I'm hoping you folks will consider the second week in October, since I'll be in Holland and Italy between September 6 and October 5. Early November might be even better, because we'd catch the Dungeness opener. But in truth, even though I'll miss it, September would probably be best weather-wise. In fact, if enough folks are up for it so soon, August would be best of all for weather and salmon. Decisions, decisions... Tony |

Last week of August, 1st 2 weeks September, we will be back East. Otherwise, the only thing holding me back is a trailer. |

The second weekend in Sept (9,10,11), Linda and I have a big underwater photo contest in Monterey. The fourth weekend in Sept (23,24,25) and first weekend in I hope we don't have a conflict. We haven't missed a NorCal

If you guys are really up for an adventure, and the seas permit, who's up for a run to the Farallon Islands? :) I know Warren will be game! That sounds like it might have to be more of a mini Rendezvous though. And it would cut in on precious Salmon fishing time. |

I am not sure I would go to the Farallons in an 18 foot boat with a single motor. Comments, anyone? Chuck? |

http://www.kqed.org/quest/television/ the-great-white-shark-meet-the-man-in-the-gray-suit This was previously posted, either by Kevin (Meneshma69) or Chuck Tribolet. To keep it Whaler related, make note @ 8:23 into the video. Shark finning and the sale of shark fins needs to be eliminated, worldwide. |

Farallon Islands would be a great trip. If we go in October we have a better chance of spotting Great White sharks. http://www.incredible-adventures.com/sharks_farallons.html Matt and I ran to the Farallon Islands and back from Bodega Bay. The weather has to be pretty good to make that run. Matt and I also ran from Bodega Bay into San Francisco Bay and pulled out at Petaluma Marina and that trip was pretty easy because we didn't have any uphill running. Or we can stick around Bodega Bay for rock fish, salmon, halibut, crabs, oysters, scotch, cigars, etc. :-) I'm going to be in Hawaii from September 26 through October 6th. But I'm game for another Rendezvous. Warren |

Warren- Did you make the run in Strike 3 or your Montauk? |

Running to the Farallon's w/o a kicker is probably not the best idea. With good fall weather, a gang of Whalers, and an up to date Sea Tow membership the risk becomes a little less severe but only an individual can decide whether that risk is worth it. I've made the run from the Golden Gate to the Islands several times. Once in a Montauk, several times in my old classic 18 Outrage and once (so far) in my 22' Outrage. All boats had a second motor be it kicker or twins. I do not make the run unless the forecast is calm, calm, calm, for several days. |

I've been to the Farallones three or four times with my Montauk. It takes a very special flat day, and a buddy boat. Chuck |

While the Farralon Islands are a very cool place to see and go to even on a flat day it would take almost two hours of running one way at 20-25 mph. It is a pretty boring ride until you get there. I doubt we would get too many people willing to partake in that adventure. Perhaps a run to the Russian River would be more enjoyable? lot's of beautiful shoreline to enjoy. A Tomales bay tour would be fun also. |

Yeah, doubtful that it would happen, just thought I'd bring it up for the fun of it. |

I am up for the Bodega/Tomales idea and would be happy to rent one of the homes there. |

I don't want this thread to die off, is there any real interest in a fall Bodega trip? |

I just talked with Sean/Irishcreamer about the same thing yesterday, Liz, and he's still interested. Our rock fish season opened this past Saturday, so for those who are interested in fishing, we'll have the possibility of a salmon/rockfish combo, and the (almost) absolute guarantee of some fresh fish to barbecue. I vote for mid-late August. Best weather possibilities and good fishing. But we should move ahead with plans if we want to reserve "The House" again. Tony |

Does this really have traction? The thread is five week+ old and has 18 posts. In the same time, the thread for the first rendezvous had 61 posts.

Can't speak for everyone but I know that Jasper and I are down to go. I for one am excited to explore Bodega and show off all the upgrades on my boat! Sounds like maybe this will be a more local gathering (Tony, Jasper, me, Megabite, etc.). Chuck it would be great to have you up as well. So..anyone want to pick a day? Tony - Can you remind us what tides are best for safety and clearance? IC |

There are no problems with the six+ foot tidal change in Bodega Bay harbor, Sean. Take that back...at the lowest ebb of a strong minus tide one might have an hour's wait to launch at the Westside ramp. Gotta be careful to stay within the channel markers however, whatever the stage of the tide, but the dredged channel is wide and never poses any problem unless one isn't paying attention. Looks like most folks have other plans for the summer. Maybe a one-day get-together would be the way to go, rather than renting "The House" and trying to organize a more formal meeting. Weather this season has been the worst I've seen in the 22 years I've been fishing out of BB. Constant 15-25 kts winds, sometimes stronger, and lumpy seas all summer so far, except for a few window days. I'm hoping late July and August will be better, but who the hell knows. I guess our best bet is just watching the weather and then throwing together a meeting at the last moment. Tony |
