This will be the 3rd annual Alafia River Fall Foliage Fever Frolic Festival or ARF5 on Saturday November 19th in Gibsonton, FL just south of Tampa.

We will meet at the Gibsonton ramp at 10:30(make sure you bring $5 for parking, no change) Gibsonton ramp is exit 250 on Rt75, go West until Rt41(couple miles), make a right on Rt41 North for 1/2 mile and go over Alafia bridge, make a left at next light, follow the service road south to the ramp.

We will then make a short run to the bay and maybe further depending on weather. From there we U-Turn and go up the river...all the way to the springs. This is a decent run with it's fair share of slow zones so bring plenty of beverages and a bimini top. We chill at the springs for an hour or 2 and then head back down the river to a couple of our favorite watering holes where they serve great wings and cold beer. From there we head to the ramp and load up, usually about 5ish or when everyone feels like it. For those who want to leave earlier, you CAN'T get lost going back. This is a laid back run with more sightseeing than most, especially when going slow. You will see plenty of wildlife so bring a camera. River is quite secluded so small boats are good, I'm bringing the 13. Larger is fine as well but just throwing it out there for those with small boats...you are cool. The local watching is good as well, especially if you are close to Dave & Capt'n Bob who give live tutorials about many of the local folk you see on this trip, very amusing.

For those attending please post below and what boat you are bringing so we have an idea of who you are at the ramp so we can give you the honorary GCBWOA liquor shot before you launch...relaxes the nerves ;) I will leave the shot up to Dave's imagination...be afraid!

About an hour.

For a little insight on the trip google up these four place's

River's edge, Fist watering hole ,or last on the way home ,full liqueur bar with it's share of music and biker's. Still a cool place.

Dixie's Dock Side, in the middle of the ride. Mellow place.

The Beer Shed, closet to the springs. Cool place also.

But just pull up the Alafia River and it will show a great river with lots of history. The local Indians back hundred of year's named the river Alafia "river of fire"

Just out side of the mouth of the river are old historical area's that can be brought up also.

Whiskey Stump, a old bootlegger island. You left your money in a certain stump and came back later for your bottle. Back in the 20s and 30s.

The Kicthen, a place so full of seafood and wild life they had to build a cottage on the island to stop poachers from shooting local bird's for their feathers for the ladys hat,s back in the 30's

the last two are a 1/2 mile apart. really a cool area that ive live in for 45 year's.

See...after the springs we do a "Historic or Hysteric tour of the local establishments....might want to keep the kids at home. What shot are we doing Dave?

Ted in his 86 Montauk and maybe up the hill Bill

Prof. Bob should ride with me in my 76 Newport.

May round up some of the other Whalers along the river banks.

Cabo Wabo Tequlia, Crown Royal, White Russians who knows.

We need a nice cold "foo-foo" shot at 11am. I know of a guy that makes this awesome shine that tastes just like apple pie...perfect for being a few days short of Turkey Day. Let me see what I can do. Don't want to get busted with that stuff on me....then again it tastes just like apple pie so we'll call it a "smoothie" in disguise.

With enough boat ramp shots and apple pie smoothie flavoured moonshine, could this turn into the bayou/river chase from 007 Live and Let Die?
Please be sure to take pictures...

Hope to make it, but it's "up in the air" as they say, at this point.(MJs neck problem and AOMCI meet scheduled on the same date)

MJs neck problem- herniated disc, probably will get operation, can't take the pounding of a 13 footer anymore, maybe a Donzi at slow speed would work.

No pounding on the river. No Donzi either.

Hell Binks...at your age I figured you would just "shatter" if you hit a wake in a 13. I see a 16 Donzi O/B with a mint T.O.P. 150hp on the stern with era correct decals. http://jacksonville.craigslist.org/boa/2629493280.html

We will be bringing our yellow lab on Saturday as we are heading to the east coast after the run.

Do you see any problems with that? Obviously we would be limited on any eating establishments and are more than happy to sit outside where/when possible.

Tohsgib posted 11-14-2011 10:40 AM ET (US)     Profile for Tohsgib  Send Email to Tohsgib
Hardest part might be getting the dog in and out of the boat at any establishment we stop at. I doubt having a dog there would be a problem.

Your lab is a seeing eye dog, it goes with you and sees everything...So now it can go with you everywhere...

I know all three owners of the watering hole's. Two are for sure good with pet's, but I will check Tuesday in the am for sure.
Dixie's for sure has a short jump to the dock. The Beer Shed (atomic wing's)has a tall seawall, but full of shade at the docking area. Bring a water bowl anyways.

Yea, at 80 pounds, I can't just throw her onto a dock! I really don't want to drive back home to get her prior to heading east... We took her to a waterfront eatery here over the weekend and she was fine. Laid down and hung out while we ate. Of course she was excited when people came by, but she didn't bark.

Thanks for the help in finding out.

dneal33 posted 11-16-2011 03:57 PM ET (US)     Profile for dneal33  Send Email to dneal33
Lab would have to be a legit seeing eye dog for the Beer Shed, Dixie's is cool and has pretty good food now.
Beer shed does have great shade at tie up area and you can set eight feet from your boat.

The Rivers Edge is probaly not a good place for a pup, lot's of noise (bike's)

Also can go to my dock down the canal

Tohsgib posted 11-17-2011 12:30 PM ET (US)     Profile for Tohsgib  Send Email to Tohsgib
I kNOW I am going to the shed for some wings. We have not been to the Edge in a while so have to make a stop. Last year the tide was too low....how we looking for saturday afternoon Dave.
dneal33 posted 11-17-2011 06:34 PM ET (US)     Profile for dneal33  Send Email to dneal33
High tide around ten am, low will be around 5 pm.

Should not be as low as last year. Wind at 8mph with a gust of 14mph on occasions. Nice day all around. Thought we stoped at the Egde for mixed drinks last year, may have missed Dixie's which is a pretty cool place.

Can do the ride up river and stop at the Shed on the way back for food, go to Dixie's for good fun and last stop at my place or the Edge for a bit of the wild side.

Been out on the river every morning this week testing the Newport ( running great) and the conditions are great...)

ps bring a short hose to wash traliers, water at ramp . If not I have many.Open for suggestions on pre trip shots.
Dave

Tohsgib posted 11-18-2011 02:10 PM ET (US)     Profile for Tohsgib  Send Email to Tohsgib
Whatever wets your whistle Dave. We stopped at the one closest to the ramp and then the Shed later after most went home. I don't care for the one by the ramp, smokey but has A/C which I doubt we will need.

Please bring a short hose Dave, I will grab my muffs.

REMEMBER $5 FOR THE RAMP!!!!

I think we have 7 boats.

dneal33 posted 11-18-2011 03:16 PM ET (US)     Profile for dneal33  Send Email to dneal33
One Newport, One Montauk and my old Mckee that I sold my brother (Mckee is a 45 mph tank).
Ya I think we may have missed Dixie's last

year. Recall making an quick run to the house last year from the biker bar and meeting you at the shed later.
High of 82 sat.
Will hit the water at 10 am and see the group at 10:30.
Dave
