Everyone is welcome. Bring your Whaler if it's convenient. If you want to leave your Whaler behind I can accommodate five guests.

We'll meet at Bevis Bay on the Magnolia River.

The most convenient ramp is at US Highway 98 where it crosses the Fish River. Bevis Bay is about a ten minute run from the ramp. The ramp is a good concrete ramp with tie ups and safe parking and it can accommodate any trailerable boat.

This is a one day affair on the water so bring what you want to consume. As details solidify I'll post additional information.

Y'all come, hear?

Butch

Hey Butch, thanks for posting. It's actually Bemis Bay which is just before you get to the no wake zone on Magnolia River...although we do get some Bevis' in the river from time to time :-)
More details as we get closer to the date.
I'm planning on shining up my brightwork this winter just in time for the event....
If the Fish River launch is too crowded you can put in at Big Mouth which is at the end of County Road 1 or at Nolte Creek which is off of County Road 26 West.
See you then,
D

Is the ramp (on US 98 ) where LuLu's was before she moved to Gulf Shore?

MarthaB,

Yes, that's the ramp.

Mojack,

Thanks for the correction. Old age strikes, again!

How about posting that Google Map link here? You did a great job on it.

My bride and I are planning on a 1 April escape to retirement. The Alabama trip sounds like a way to begin our new journey. We will keep "ya'll" posted as the date approaches.

Y'all,
I would like to attend this gathering. I will trailer the 18' Outrage down from Birmingham. Keep meaning to bring the Whaler down to the Gulf area; this will be a perfect opportunity.Count me in.

It will depend on if we have tours that day, so we won't know if we are coming till the last minute.

Hey Guys, I don't know where everyone is coming from but several folks have told me that they wanted to camp out during their stay. I would recommend the campground on the Intracoastal Waterway at Highway 59 across the highway from LuLu's. This is central to both Perdido and Mobile Bay.
Thanks!

D,

Good advice.

I believe Spring Break may have started by April 14. If so, it is highly advisable to make reservations for any accommodations needed during a visit to the beach area. You don't want to arrive and find you have nowhere to stay. The campgrounds fill up quickly near the beaches.

I want to remind everyone that we are just over a month away from our little rendezvous on the beautiful Magnolia River.

This will be a fun opportunity to meet fellow Whaler enthusiasts, share some knowledge, and see a few of our own special boats.

Y'all come.

Dereck,

Barring unforeseen circumstances I'll see you there. I'm planning to launch at the Fish River Bridge on US98. I haven't decided if I'll be aboard the old 13 or the 190. If anyone needing a ride wants to meet me and give me a hand at the ramp I'll bring the 190. If I'm going to be on my own I'll bring the 13 just for ease of launching/recovering alone.

Anyone wanting to ride along with me drop me an e-mail at jw31950@bellsouth.net and we'll set up a good time and place to meet.

Hey y'all!

I'm in! We're in Fairhope, Alabama, which is also an outstanding boating opportunity, though my profile says Baton Rouge. And the Whaler Standard 17 was 4 boats ago, too! We were in beautiful Fish and Magnolia Rivers this weekend and saw lots of Whalers in various shapes, sizes and vintages. Actually helped a couple of ladies get their new to them 1972 Whaler 13' down the ramp. Hopefully some of them will be around on the 14th. Had lunch at Big Daddies, too. Ordered the fried shrimp and oyster combo plater, it was excellent as usual!

Look forward to meeting everyone!

Folks,
If you are counting heads, the eldest [and maybe the youngest as well] and I will be down about 10ish on Saturday. The Outrage is in shape to go public after a blitzkrieg of effort over the past weekend. Thanks to the organizers for making this happen. This is going to be fun. For anyone who shows up needing a ride, I will be on ch 16 or 205-790-6444 and will have plenty of room.

Is there an "official" gathering and or departure time? We will be in Baton Rouge the day before...trying to decide if we drive over Sat AM or Fri Eve. We will be looking for a place to park the RV the night before if we go that route and perhaps the night of the cruise. Ideas/comments.

Hey Hal,
Official "time" is about 1:00is...I figured I'd be there by 12:30 or so and see who all shows up! There is actually a little campground next to Nolte Creek which is right off of Magnolia River (not a state park kind by any means but would work for a night)...
I was thinking at about 4:00is we could all either motor up the no wake zone and go to "The Cold Hole Bar" at Jesse's or over to Fish River and go to Big Daddy's either one is fine with me.
The weather should be great (at least that is what the forecast shows today). Happy Easter everyone, see you next Saturday!!
We'll be in the Outrage 22 with the maroon bimini...

Dereck,

I'll be there. I have not had a definite answer from Hal but am assuming he will be riding with me. I will be bringing the little Whaler and don't have a VHF. So, I'll have the cell turned on. You can call me at 802-5364. I have not been on the Magnolia or Weeks Bay so may have a little trouble finding you. If I can have your cell number I'll be a little more comfortable. You an shoot it to me at the e-mail in my profile.

Derek,

Thanks. I spoke with Hal. He and his wife are meeting me at the Spanish Fort Bass Pro Shop at noon. I'll be bringing the 190 Montauk for a little more comfort. Will launch at the Fish River ramp on US 98.

Look forward to meeting you and 2manyboats.

Derek,

Next year for sure. It was good fun and I enjoyed meeting all you very nice folks. Every Whaler there was a classic, except mine. It was a pleasure to see how many of you are keeping those great old Whalers in such good shape. I'm glad I didn't bring my classic. I would have been embarrassed.

Very stupidly I forgot to bring my camera. Oh well, there's always next year.

Thanx to all of the GCBWCC, "Gulf Coast Boston Whaler Cruising Club". We very much appreciated your hospitality welcoming us "yankees" into your group. A special thanx to our host, Butch Davis for providing us a ride on his 190 Montauk. We look forward to meeting up with you again.

Hal,

You and Margaret were perfect guests. You were on time, where you said you'd be, extremely helpful and skillful with the boat handling and incredibly pleasant for the entire outing. You are always welcome on my boats. A class act.

BTW, I spent about a hour plus with my power washer this morning and the non-skid looks perfectly new. The washer was also effective in taking mildew stains off the Starboard or whatever it's called by Boston Whaler... WhalerBoard???

If anyone says I fell in the drink, I'm denying it!
