Who's up for an early season rendezvous at Put In Bay on Saturday, May 19, 2012?

My plan is to launch my boat either at the Wyandotte, Michigan Municipal boat launch, or at the Michigan DNR boat launch at Bolles Harbor near Monroe. The ride to Put In Bay is less than an hour from either launch. I plan to launch at about 10:30 or 11:00 a.m., eat lunch on the island, and then return to the launch.

I did a similar trip a few years ago, at the same time of year, and found Put In Bay uncrowded, with plenty of docking easily available.

Hopefully this will inspire some of you Great Lakes guys to get your boats out early and join in the fun. Only four months to get your boat ready!

I'm interested, just have to see if I can get that Saturday off, won't know for sure until late April

I will be there on May 19th with my sailboat. It's the Canadian long weekend (Victoria Day). Racing in the Lasalle Mariner's Yacht Club Shakedown Regatta. The finish line is in Put-in-Bay. I would love to view a bunch of Boston Whalers.

Upon further review, Put In Bay is just an hour's ride from Bolles Harbor, and probably more like an hour and half from Wyandotte, assuming fair conditions. Anyways, it should make for a nice 5 or 6 hour day on the water, with lunch onshore, again assuming fair conditions.

Sounds like a good day. I will have to pencil this in.

My father and I have done this "Day" trip twice in recent years. Once we left from our family friends house on the south end of Grosse Ile (Actaully Elba Island) where I kept my Outrage. The other time we put in a Elizabeth Park and left from there. Each crossing was just over an hour and a half. Once though the winds changed and really picked up forcing us to abort the crossing home and run the Guardian with a 6-8 foot seas to Catawba Island and have a friend pick us up and drive us back to Detroit.

I would highly recommend leaving from Elizabeth Park as they have a great launch ramp that is protected. It also never falls victim to Seiche's like ramps that are out on the lake so, you never have to worry about coming back only to find the harbor high and dry.

Jeff - I'm glad you're considering it. It will be great if you and/or your dad can make it.

With regard to the launch point, I'm good with any place on the Detroit River or Lake Erie.

I'm going to stay tuned in on this plan. I've been interested in getting over to Put In Bay for years, but my lack of knowledge about Lake Erie and the islands always causes me to do my boating elsewhere. Tagging along with someone that's been there before, that's perfect.

My involvement would be contingent on a long list of events falling perfectly in place during April and early May to free up the weekend of May 19. At this point my odds appear to be about the same as those stated by the baby in the etrade commercial... getting eating by a polar bear and a regular bear on the same day, but, I'll keep an eye on your planning.

Steve, it would be great if you could join us. Even if you can't bring your boat, jump onboard somebody else's boat so you'll know what to do when you get a chance to get your boat over there.

We will try to make it. I'm on the lake at Put-in-Bay and the associated islands at least 6-8 times a season. We've had a sail or power boat in the area since 1979 except for 2 years when we were on Lake Michigan.

A bump to the top since there was an inquiry in a different thread about a Lake Erie rendezvous. Please note that this is simply a get-together of Continuous Wave participants, and is not an officially sanctioned Boston Whaler or Continuous Wave event - no prizes, no gift bags, no t-shirts. Just an excuse to get your boat out in the spring.

Anybody still interested in this trip? If so, let's start talking about a launch point and meeting time. I like the idea of meeting somewhere on the lower Detroit River, but I'm flexible and open to other suggestions.

Last chance . . . . I'll be out on my boat on Saturday. If nobody's interested in Put In Bay, I'll be staying local in the Detroit area.

Well, I stayed tuned in to this plan, but... ended up exactly where I was afraid I would, one weekend short. I was finally able to get the boat out of storage on 5/5 and needed to get it in the water yesterday to make sure everything is in order. Wasn't able to complete my plan with some of the obligations that always take place on that specific Sunday of May.

Hope you get a good day on the water. As always I'll look forward to seeing your report and photos recapping the day.

I'm leaving later this morning for Port Clinton, OH for the weekend. I expect to be around the islands Saturday and Sunday and I'll be monitoring Ch-9 or call my cell 269 207 5097

Terry - Based on the lack of response here, I invited some "non-Whaler" friends out on the boat for a Detroit River cruise on Saturday. Accordingly, it's not likely that I'll be in the Put In Bay area.

For past rendezvous, I've always run across a lurker or two - people who followed the rendezvous thread but never posted that they would attend. Maybe you'll run into some lurkers while you're there.

Well, I didn't see any other CW Whalers this weekend but I did get about 80 miles on the clock. As I was pulling out today I ran into another 1993 19’ Outrage-II with a 150 hp Yamaha, a year younger than mine just purchased a few weeks ago. I hope he joins us on the website.
