Hello all,
I am going to be camping on Catalina July 5-7 and will take my Whaler if the weather permits. Anyone interested in buddy boating?

Hello - I sent an email to my pal John Mirassou who does that crossing all the time in his Montauk. Great guy - gave him your information.

Hi Pete,
Thank you for forwarding my info. It will be great to hear from another local small Whaler owner that does the crossing.
Unfortunately, I have decided to not take my boat and just take the Catalina Express over for the weekend. This past Saturday, I went fishing and crabbing and had a few things happen that made me change my mind about taking the boat to Catalina for the weekend. First off, after dropping a crab pot, I put into drive, gave it throttle, the engine revved, but the boat did not move much. After doing that a couple more times, it took off. I think there was kelp wrapped around the prop. Second, after fishing a bit off a kelp bed (tied off to the kelp bed), we took off on our way back to the harbor and the engine overheated within a minute of taking off. This is the first time this engine (2010 Honda BF60 with 180 hours) overheated. I shut it down, tilted it up took some kelp off the skeg and used a zip tie to poke the pee hole (I did not notice if it was peeing before shutting down). After starting it up again, it ran great back to harbor. At the wash-down, I noticed that one of the anchor locker hinges was broken – completely came out of the door. Thus, I am not taking the boat to Catalina….
But thank you again for forwarding my info.
