It sounds like 4 models have been dropped from the Whaler line. The 11ft.tender, 13ft.classic,18ft.Outrage,21ft ConQuest. Added boats,11ft impact,26ft.Conquest. And at some point a entry level bluewater boat.Size?

I'm surprised about eliminating the 18 Outrage and 21 Conquest. Those are both recent new models, introduced under Brunswick's design team. Guess they're still struggling to find the right formula for the new look of Whalers. Sales of those models must have been slow. |

At the price of a 21 Conquest, my guess is that a lot of people are going for a larger boat from another maker for the same $'s. Unless you've owned a few boats and know exactly what your looking for to suit your own needs its a STEEP price for a 21' boat. Still matched up against some of the other 21's, I'd still pay the extra for the Whaler. But the difference is I plan on keeping the boat for a number of years. Seems a lot of people like to trade boats every 3-4 years. Just a thought.... |

I can't believe they are cancelling production on the 18 Outrage. I'm partial to them because I own one, but man what a bad move. I know there are a lot of Montauk lovers on this site ( and I'm one of 'em), but the 18 might be the best all-around boat out there. It's easy to trailer. Big enough to handle some rough conditions. And doesn't take a V-8 to run it at 40+ mph. I spent almost 10 years on a Montauk, and believe me, the 18 is whole lot more boat. In a perfect world, I'd have both. As far as Whaler cancelling the 18; I give them 2 years, and bet it comes back, or "Mercury" will sell the division to someone who knows how to run a company like Whaler. "This isn't your mother's Buick", as the old saying goes! |

Jim: You're not thinking of the same Outrage 18!! The Classic 18' hull that you have was finally discontinued after 1995. Then, in 1999, a new, bigger 18 Outrage was introduced as a completely differently sized boat, and weighing 2500 lbs. To me it looked short, wide and stubby, and this is evidently the one being discontinued. The Classic 18 hull is only avaiable in CPD. |

Hauptjm, Larry is right you were thinking about the Classic 18.Still available in the gaurdian line of the cmmercial division. I was referring to the newest Neo-Whaler in Outrage line-up.I never water tested the new 18.I did like the double fish boxes in the deck, the large center console, and the wide beam.Maybe the wide beam on such a short boat caused handling problems. Compared to my my 17 outrage it did seem to have a lot of room.At the tour the reason was sales and profit. I'm anxious to see what the entry level Bluewater boat they were talking about. I'm thinking a boat, motor, trailer like they have done with the 13footer. I personally like the 23footer for all the wrong reasons,(bells & whistles) Built in lighted baitwell,Marine head, surface mounted electronics,Fold Away Solid stern seat,Transom wall for kids, Fold away ladder,Solid feel of the Uni-bond Const.Unsinkable Hey Frank, I'm not sure about the dauntless. They do have the new 13 sport that they probaly think covers anything under 16. Ed Stone |

Gotta say this Sea Ray crowd doesn't mess around. They bring out a boat, it doesn't fly and they can it quickly before it gives Whaler a bad name! |

I think that the Outrage 18 was killed because it competed with the Dauntless 18. |

Hey Bashaw, I believe they are going to try and put together a package 18 0r 19 ft. Outrage, with boat, motor, trailer, like they did with the 13 sport. Ed Stone |

I'd love to see a "classic" 18'6" Outrage package. I think it's one of Whaler's all-time bests. I just bought the 2000 Sport 13 package and am very pleased with it - it does a good job of balancing the compromises that all boats must be (although the speed demon in me could use a bit more oomph!). I suspect the newest 18 Outrage was not a big seller - too bloated looking, there doesn't appear to be enough interior room for fishing, and at 2,500 lbs. for the hull only, the fully fueled and loaded trailer package must come in at over 4,500 lbs!! |

I have heard the same rumor about an entry level blue water package. If it comes to fruition, and survives a couple of years I would be interested. |

Y'all are correct, I was thinking of the Clasic 18. I'm still stuck in the past. A cousin of mine has the new version (2 yrs. old) and I agree; BLOATED! I would love to see a commercial 18 rigged out like the recreational boats were. Teak on the gunnels, teak hatches on the console, and the pole holders and Igloo seat up front. I guess if you really had the funds, you can still get what you want. I am curious though, what is the weight of the CPD 18 compared to the pre-95s? I assume the same. Also, what are the cost differentials? |
