I have a 2000 Sport 13. It came with a 30hp Merc 2 stroke, a standard motor. The sticker in the boat, that I call "the Coast Guard sticker," says the boat has a maximum hp of 30. I understand that the 2001 model, which has an identical hull and is otherwise almost identical, comes with a 40 hp option and that the sticker gives a high rating of 40hp.
I am also advised that, for a few hundred dollars in carborator work or somesuch, that I can convert my 30hp Merc in to a 40 hp.
I may want to make the conversion. If I do, am I breaking some law? Does anybody know if one can get a new Coast Guard sticker reflecting the higher rating? If the 2000 model was upgraded when the 2001 was approved for 40 horses??
Has anyone gone through a motor conversion like this??
