My month old 13 Sport has 9.9 hours on it and I love the boat but with the throttle wide open the tach only goes to 5200. If I don't trim the motor up then the max RPM is only 5000. These results are on a dead calm lake with no wind and less than 250 lbs in the boat, (anchor, gas, myself and misc gear).

Shouldn't it do better? The Manual states "Full Throttle RPM Range - 5500-6000 RPM"

My prop is the standard one.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

First, check your owners manual/rigging instructions - if you have a 25 hp 4-stroke, the switch on the back of the tach should be set to 6P. I'm not sure of the settings for other motors. If it is set to the wrong switch, you'll get a bad reading.

It is more likely that you are propped incorrectly - I'd take the boat back to the dealer. When I first ran my 2000 13 Sport (25 hp 4-stroke), it revved all the way up to 6,200 with the stock prop (11" pitch). Going to the 12" got the rpms in the right range for me.

Good luck!!

Hugh,
Has it always been this way since new or is it something that has recently developed?
If it's been that way since new it could be cable / carb linkage adjustment or just the wrong prop.
If it's something that's just developed then it could be cable / carb adjustment, fuel restriction or even fishing line wrapped around the prop shaft.
Discuss with your dealer.
