I am now considering this boat, which is available in Miami w/o power at $29,900. Are there any quirks to this model anyone knows of? The NADA guide lists weight at 6140lbs...that seems quite heavy -- the comparable 30' Mako is only 5,000lbs. Is it a typo? Thanks for any thoughts...

The weight is correct and that is w/o power, fuel, and water --- when fully loaded can get close to 5-6 tons --- there is no comparison to the Mako 30 -- this boat has a 10' beam and LOA is 29'6" w/o pulpit. The so called Whaler drive was designed and made by Salt Shaker Marine for this WA and the 23 WA -- Tom

PS I would suggest a full survey to be done there are lots of systems on this model --

Thanks once again...this website is great. Upon examining the boat, the plate said 23WA, but I guess with the Whaler drive and pulpit the owner calculated 27 feet.

DS, the 23WA is miss named! It is general practice to include the integrated motor bracket in the LOA, so maybe it should have been named the "23 WA Stretch" ;)

The 23 WA including the motor extension is 26'4" -- so one might fudge to 27' in advertising the LOA they'd be close to correct ---

No Tom, I do not agree. This boat was offered both as a 23 Walkaround (notched transom) and a 23 Walkaround w/Whaler Drive.
It's basically a 24' hull. And your model Walkaround was never marketed as a 29. The hull length is still a "27".

In 1994, the 23 Walkaround hull was converted to the 24 Outrage.

All of the Whaler Drives, whether they be the BW manufactured version, or the later Salt Shaker Marine version used on the 23 and 27 Walkarounds, were bolted on affairs, and not considered part of boat length. Nor do I consider that the bolted on Armstrong Bracket on my 25 Outrage makes it a "27", even though it looks integral with the hull.

But I will agree that now the current practice, with most manufacturers, is to mold the bracket into the hull, usually with Euro styling, and call it a 2 ft longer boat! This is the case with Whaler's current 26 Outrage which is really no longer than the previous 24 or 25 Outrages. The current 26 Outrage is not as long as my 25 Outrage with bracket or Whaler Drive.

LHG really don't care if you agree or not!

He asked about a "27" WA with a Whaler drive!

I stand by my assertion the 23 and 27 with the Salt Shaker integrated motor extension were missed name. The LOA for both as listed in the specs includes the "bracket".

The SSM bracket is bolted but reinforced and glassed to the main hull. All motor rigging enters below the water line through the main bilge into the bracket (water that enters into the extension is drained into the main bilge and is pumped out via thru hulls located in the extension -- So "sir" I will continue to refer to it as a integrated bracket!

You have a tendency to make a big deal out of nothing (noticed that in most of your recent post since your FL return) --- keep titling at your Wind Mills -- end of this conversation for me --- Z

bigz, you're wrong again. It is not general practice to include a bracket in the overall length of a vessel any more than it is standard practice to include the length of a bowsprit. Whether a 23 WA is misnamed (or missed name) or not is subjective, but the fact remains: ds asked about a 23 WA not a 27 WA.
