Question! A buddy here in town has an opportunity to pick up a 1995 20-Outrage with a 1995 200hp Evinrude. The boat has been rarely used, heavily equipped and a custom t-top. He thinks the guy will take $19,000.00. Since I'm not in tune with the newer values, I was hoping someone could help me with this. He already has three boats, and this may just be a 'turn-over' if the margins are there. Please advise.

***I ran this in the Marketplace Section as well***

I'll take a stab at this one. What values do I know that are real. Well, in FLA at least 22' Outrages in the mid to late 80's go for 16K+ all day long. Includes trailer. Motors on these are 200/225's that are viable, meaning they run well but have some hours on them. The one you are looking at is 20' with an engine that to a prospective buyer has significant hours on it. I don't care if the owner says it's a trailer queen or not-to any savy buyer it has hours on it. My feeling is that 19K is rather high if your friend intends to flip it soon and make money. If quality in hull and motor is there, the price could be sustain by someone who was going to use it regularly. I don't feel much profit(meat on the bone) is available at 19K. Rec-buy at 15K in order to deal it. My .03. David

David, thanks. I was just checking through YachtWorld.com and Boat Trader.com and came up with: Mid 90's 20ft. Outrages with same age motors, $23,000-$26,000. Now of course, these are mostly through brokers, but a few were individuals, priced similarly. My advice to my buddy is that if he can sit on it till the spring, he would get a better price. And that's here in So. Louisiana, with a year-round boating season.

Whaler did not make a 20' Outrage in 1995. It was a 21 footer, a pretty nice boat, and the best of the Reebock (Van Lancker) designed hulls.
