I recently acquired a '91 "commercial" 13ft. Whaler that I hope to improve in the following ways. Would appreciate any advice.

1. Would like to add console. Any plans out there?

2. Would like to add side rails. Is there an alternative to the stock expensive rails?

3. Best motor in terms of size/make? This hull requires a long shaft motor.

thanks!

John

moses,

I have plans for the wood parts. If you's like a set, email me your mailing address.

The alternative to buying the side rails from CMI is to buy a set used somewhere like ebay or a flea market or something.

Anything from a 25 hp to a 40 hp will work well. Many put 50 hp motors on them and they still work well and go fast too. One of our neighbors growing up had a 1973 Sourpuss-13 with a four cylinder Mercury 50 hp. The boat performed great when the motor ran. I had a 1976 13-Sport Center Steer with a 1977 Johnson 35 hp. It would do about 35 mph and was good enough for teenagers to ski behind.
