Any more experience out there on mounting a trolling motor on a Sport 13, new ones? I was wondering where to mount, as well as what.

thanks,
bill

Howdy, Bill.

I mounted a bow-mount MinnKota on my '75 13 Sport.

I used a piece of 5/4 Mahogany. Shaped it to the starboard bow and through bolted it to the gunnel in 3 places. Then I bolted the MK quick disconnect mount to the Mahog.

Six or 8 coats of varnish and it looked OEM. Worked great. Don't have the boat any more or I would E you some pics.

Red sky at night. . .

I have a bow mount on my Montauk. I have not seen a new 13 with the bow rail option, if you have that you may have a problem. Without the bow rail there should be no problem mounting a bow mount motor. Nice thing about electrics is that the mount can be at any angle to the bow with the motor aligned fore and aft.
Would suggest using a removable mount as I have, that way you can use your mooring cover or just get the motor out of the way if you want.

Do you guys run everything off one battery? Or do you have a second one somewhere for the trolling motor?

I have a dedicated group 27 deep cycle for the trolling motor. Have it moutnted in the anchor locker and set up for external charging only.
