Anyone ever wonder why BW doesn't make a 19 OR any longer. There's a pretty larg gap between the 17 and 21. I guess they made a 18 for one year, Y2K? I have never seen one in real life. Any thoughts? They still produce the 19 Justice, which is the same as a 96' 19ft, and a 97' 20ft.

Whaler doesn't make an Outrage smaller than 21 at this time...and it seems like a big gap in their lineup to me.

The most recent Outrage 18 was made from 1999-2001. My next door neighbor has one with an Optimax 135 and it is a fine boat...a big, brawny 18 that is great for fishing inshore or offshore. It is a lot more boat than a Dauntless 18...it's apparent successor...

Hopefully Whaler will address that part of the market with a new Outrage 18 or 19...

I love it. I bought it off my father last year. Anyway, what year is yours? Mine is basically like new, it was high and dry for it's whole life. Now I have it covered behind my place. Send me a pic of your sled.

The Boston Whaler rep at boat show told me that BW seriosly considered reintroducing the Outrage 17. Decision was that Outrage was intended for bluewater fishing and that meant at least 21 feet...at least that was his take. I think it is really a simple marketing decision. Even though I agree that Outrage is far superior to Dauntless for offshore, my guess is that the two models compete with each other for sales.

I looked over that Outrage at Sea Dog, it's super nice, Al. Did you buy it sight unseen? That's a leap of faith!

Yes ...
I hired a survey company and just waiting for the report. I spoke to the guy and he said it was in mint condition only found too small items to be fixed, they were the hydro steering had a leak and the vent cover was turned the wrong way.
He also said the hull was perfect no bottom paint. The Motor checked out...and so on, well i will see. By the way are you close to SEA DOG...LOL

I live about 5 miles down the road. I was over there on Friday looking at a 1999 Key West 2220 that they have. The Outrage had been parked right out front for a while and I stopped by once to check it out, it looked clean. Good luck with it.

I have a 98 (last year) of the 20 o/r.
Its powered w/a 225 merc efi. I bought it new, trail it everywhere and love it even more everytime I am out on it.
I glanced at the new 18. I think its a poorly built waste of time. Poor everything but the name. Unfortunately, the 21's are priced out of my range..
I live in Tampa and bought it at Marinemax.

I am a brand new owner (first boat) of a wonderful 1994 19" Outrage II. The boat has a Merc 115 on it (I think it is a little under-powered), but the engine and hull were in pristine condition. So far I have had the boat out on 3 occasions, and I was very impressed with the tightness of the boat, the sturdiness and the dry ride. All in all, it looks like it is going to be a great day-fisher, family runabout.

I looked for over 2 years for a boat, and never saw any 19' Whalers. I asked BW about this, and they simply said, "The boat was so well received that we rarely, if ever, see anyone wanting to part with it. So the used market rarely sees any of them". So far, I concur....

I have a roller-style trailor and am looking for advice from some Whaler experts on which bunk-style trailor I should be using. I want to replace my trailor as I have heard bunk styles are much easier on the Whaler hull construction then roller-styles. Any advice?

whaleral- Great boat, I own a 1990 19Outrage having new t-top installed. I also went from a Montauk. Good luck with the boat. cc

Getting back to the original question, and with a new 170 Montauk and 210 Outrage, I'm betting a 190 Outrage can't be far away.

Homerun04,
You probally want a "Keel Roller" Trailer. All the weight is supported by the keel and the bunks just steady the load.

I have emailed BW about a smaller Outrage asking them to bring one back..The 17 and 19's still in the Justice lines where great boats in my opinion..Some of us want a smaller than 21' trailerable offshore Center Console. It would be great if like the Montauk, they packaged it w/trailer and motor. I think it would be a big hit.

I own a 1994 Outrage II with a 150HP Yamaha SW series and absolutely love the boat. It's been 30 miles offshore trolling fishing a few times and it's a great family boat as well. The ride it's dry and true thanks to the traditional V hull. The molds used to build the 19/21/24 Outrage are still being used by the BW industrial division marketed as the Justice for law enforcement etc... The new boat for BW in this under-and-near 20ft category is the new 19ft Nantuckett. The hull ressembles the 1994 Outrage 19 II. I have not seen the boat's inside so I can't comment. Seemed like BW saw the same missing link between the Outrage 21 and the Mauntawk 17 or even the Dauntless 18. The 19ft Nantuckett seems to be BW's clever answer.

This is a two year old thread that just was revived. The post above was appended in 2004--a glitch throws the date way off.

The 190 NANTUCKET solved the gap being discusses here two years ago.

But it brings up an interesting question. Why did they name this boat a Nantucket instead of a 19 Outrage?

Maybe I can speculate. The popular Montauk name seemed to work quite well in selling boats. So extending a similar "east coast" name up another notch makes sense. This keeps the dual design tradition going between the "Classics" and the "Euros". Playing both sides against the middle seems to be working for Whaler.

Regarding the Outrage name, Brunswick has migrated the name into a new series of Euro Transom center consoles, beginning in 1997, and the Nantucket is too traditional to fit this image. To make a traditional transom Outrage would goof up the current design trends. But I'll bet that at some point in time, they will eventually re-appear.

Am I close here?

That makes a lot of sense Larry. Who knows, when they re-appear they may call it "The Classic Outrage" :) That would be nice. (or "The Retro Outrage")

The "96-98" 19/20 Outrage was 19'8". The 21 euro Outrage was only 20'6". The difference of less the one foot made it competetion for the 21. Especially for those who didn't like the EURO design. They retired the 19/20 from the outrage line and called it the Justice. They still carry the 19/20 in the justice which is the commercial side of whaler. They also have the 17 justice which is an 18'r.
