cavie: you would have a real screamer but would probably void your insurance. Stinks to be an adult. |

You may wanna change your name to "FLIPPER" if you do. There'd be some SERIOUS chine walking there! |

I assume your 99 Yamaha is a 90, an engine not quite as fast as a Johnson or Merc 90.So if you want to stay "legal", you might try one of those. If not, I'd recommend no more than a fast 115. I think the Yamaha 2-stroke is a good contender in that HP range. The Johnson and Mercs would also run well. You might also consider the 115 4-stroke EFI, either Merc or Yamaha, but they are in short supply, I hear. With 115 HP, insurance will still be available from certain companies. You would not be able to keep the boat in the water with a Merc 135 Opti! |

cavieFor a go faster get yourself a Fountain, cushy ride at awsome speeds. I think the worst chine walker I have ever run was a friends 86 Montauk with a Merc 135, but back then living on the edge was fun. |

Just a gentle reminder, but discussions about the performance of classic Whaler hulls like the 17-foot Montuak are generally conducted in the forum "Classic Whaler: Performance".There are dozens of threads in that forum about Montuak performance and repowering. --jimh |
