for what it's worth...

I came across these links on the Boat/US page. Re the fuel expansion tank recall, can't tell if that was dauntless or not. I thought it was interesting due to the recent thread re fuel smell in those boats.

DC,
The thread on the fuel smell included 2001 year models, the recall for the fuel expansion tank you indicated has been closed for almost 2 years. This has yet to become a recall, if there are more instances of this problem that might happen.
Thanks,
Bear

Bear,

Thanks for the guidance. It would be helpful if they'd give the "model years and models". When you read these reports, as you clipped:

"Case Open Date: 4/8/98
Disposition: CLOSED Case Close Date: 5/31/00
Units: 318 Campaign Open Date: 4/9/98
Boat Type: Campaign Close Date: 5/31/00

Does that mean that boats built between 4/98 and 5/00 had the problem and that all 318 were repaired--hence it was closed?

The Coast Gaurd looked into the complaints 4/8/98, the recall by Boston Whaler started the day after 4/9/98.

The way I read the description leads me to believe that these must have been the larger BW hulls, since there was a vent below deck and an expansion tank was added to prevent fuel from being put into the bilge. As indicated there were 318 boats involoved with this design most likely the model years 97 - 98, and after these units had been modified or the owners informed, they can not force someone to bring in their boat for a fix, the recall was closed 5/31/00.

So it took a little over two years to address this problem on the 318 units.

It is interesting that there is a missing HIN number and model/year for the recall.

I am not sure but I believe that many of these recalls are voluntary and that may be the reason why the HIN and model is missing on just this one recall out of seven.
