Has anyone ever seen a Ventura 20 w/ a hardtop?. I'm thinking of adding one, but don't want to mess up the looks of the boat. I like the looks of the Conquest HT, but I'd probably have to have one custom made. Any thoughts?

If you want a conquest look.Buy a Conquest!

It sounds like he already has a Ventura, maybe he doesn't want a Conquest. At any rate, the beam on the Ventura and Conquest are the same, I believe. You'd have to talk to a Whaler dealer about it, and it would have to have a taller support structure. But I think it's a great idea! A windshield connector, aft curtain, side curtains, you're all set for late fall boating, high and dry. Good luck

Sounds like it would work and I think it would look good.
I would check with Whaler to confirm that there would be no structural problem installing one.
Who knows, you may add a new option to the 20VT and not have to upgrade to a Conquest.

MrGoodwhaler,A boat company called Aristocrat Boats built a 19 or20ft i/o powered runabout with a sliding hardtop from 1970 to app.1975. You should be able to find images of the boat on the net.The top design is real nifty.

I saw an ad on boattraderonline sometime last year for a Grady-White Tournament 223 (their 22' dual-console) which had a hardtop and a full enclosure of weather curtains. Only the bow seating was unenclosed...and it had a tonneau cover over it.

It looked great...I'm surprised more boats in colder climates don't do have that.

Its a dumbo idea, A weather curtain set is easily acommodated on the older hull ventura, it would provide comfort from the elements [for the fall boating] without the aggravation or potential problems associated with reengineering the boat to accomodate something not intended.

I don't think any ideas are "dumbo." It sounded like he wants a hardtop; I offered a suggestion. Why would you impose your opinion that he should get a Conquest, or that its not a good idea? This forum is an exchange of ideas and information. No need to criticize or belittle. OK?

Thanks for the ideas. I'll search for Gradys w/ hardtops and also go to the dealer and measure a conquest HT to see how it might fit. Maybe BW will sell me just the glass part.. By the way, I bought the Ventura (my 5th BW) b/c of the bow seating..I did not need a cuddy.
Thanks, Goodwhaler

It's about the exchange of all sorts of peoples opinions, like em or not.

You're implication that it was a stupid idea is what's frustrating; we've seen enough of that. It's unnecessary to call ideas dumbo.
