I would like to know if anyone has a 18 ft Dauntless with a F115 motor on it. Have seen a used 2001 at a good price. However the F115 seems a little small for the boat.

I realize some people are speed demons and others are leasurly cruisers, but all boats have a for real motor size that fits both needs with acceptable fuel economy.
I hope I have not duplicated a topic.
Comments appreciated

Lakeman, I have a 2002 Dauntless 180 with a Mercury Optimax 135 Saltwater Series. This is plenty of power for my boat. The boat gets onto plane quickly (although there is significant bow rise). The top speed with just me on board, with 3/4 tank of gas, and swinging a stainless steel Mercury Mirage 17 inch pitch prop is 42-43 mph.

I realize I'm resurrecting a very old thread but I've got the same question. I'm looking for an 18' Dauntless to replace my 1989 Montauk. I found a very nice boat but it's got a Mercury 115HP four stroke. It seems like a smallish engine for this boat. Most seem to have 135 - 150HP.

Any owners out there with only 115HP on their 18 Dauntless care to comment?
