The Houston boat show has a pretty nice selction of Whaler models on site. But, about a quarter of them are older models from 2001 and 2002. If you are looking for a deal on a Honda or Yamaha powered Whaler, they have them there. I got a first hand look to climb around a Yamaha powered Outrage 28. What a nice boat, very nicely equipped. Also had a Conquest 28/29 model a year or two old. I dide not take notes unfortuneately, but one of them was going for 88K, and the other was also less than 100K. The conquest had a generator and AC too boot. They had 2 or four Dauntless 22's with Mercs, Yamaha, and Honda Power in various configs. The new 2003 Dauntless has a revised rear deck with integral storage and livewell hatches versus the separate box/seat. Also on hand was a new Outrage 240. At first glance, it looks very Unwhaler like. But after a while, the styling kind of grows on you. Looking at the inside though, it is cramped. The seats and bait prep center are wide, and take up much of the rear cockpit. The console is also Huge, leaving only narrow fishing areas alongside.

Much of the Houston show was dealers old unsold stock, with not a big selection of newer models from any vendor. No Regulators this year, only one CC fish boat from Pursuit, Fountain, and Contender. The Bluewater boats CC looked pretty interesting as did the Scout 28 CC. The Scout was amazing in the use of space for storage. They did have a big selection of Parkers and Gradys. They had the two different hull styles of the 25' Parker Pilot House models side by side for comparison. Also noted that Grady is starting to update their styling and amenities a bit. Summing it up, I like the older model Conquest and Outrages better than the new ones, Parkers still have that timeless classic look, and the 28' Scout with twin 225 4 strokes and loaded with options can be had for less than 90K.
