I have a 1996 17' OR. I currenly have 2 captain chairs and would like to get the origional leaning back rest or if they made a deluxe fishing station/leaning post that would be great. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated. Stan

You have two captains chairs on a 1996 17' Outrage II?
I wasn't aware that was an option. I thought it came with the RPS or the leaning post. Is it two chairs on seperate posts with a crossmember from post to post?

Yes same chairs in the 20 outrage. Why do you have a RPS that you would like to trade. Garlick is the manufacture I do belive. If you are intrested I can send pictures. Thanks, Stan
BTW the cross member is solid with 3 holes cut in it. Same as you see in Whaler Ads,

I own a 1997 17' Outrage. I bought it used in 2000. Did they make a 17' Outrage II that year as well. How do they differ?

Only diffrence is the swim platform that I have seen. Anyone else have info on this I would like to know. Thanks, Stan

The 1990 to 1995 Outrage 17 was nicknamed the 17 Outrage I.
The 1996 to 1999 Outrage 17 was nicknamed the 17 Outrage II...
When I was shopping for the 17 Outrage II, I found them in many different configurations. Some with the standards RPS, some with the Captains Chairs, and some with the Leaning Post..
The Swim Platform was an option and was included in the Comfort Pacakge along with the Bow Cushion and the Cooler Cleats.
There were other packages available also:
The Captains Chairs are not mentioned in many of the Outrage options although picutres are shown. One of the boats I looked at was a 1996 that had the original and optional Captains Chairs.
I have a 1998 and 1999 catalog that shows the 17 Outrage II and all the options available.

Whalersman, where in heck did you get that information? So my 97 is an OutrageII not a 1?
I got into whalerparts.com but I can't get anything to open. I downloaded Autodesk but the drawings will not open. I emailed whaler and they said I can't get in because I am not a dealer. How do I get that CD you are referencing? Do you guys live anywhere near NJ?

I may be selling the leaning post on my 1995 24' Outrage. I know it fits a 20', but don't know if it fits the 17'.

Do you know the dimensions? I will try and find them. Thanks Stan

Yes, you have a 17' Outrage II... This is basically just a nickname but it has stuck..
As mentioned in my previous post, the very first Outrage 17 was made in 1990 and it had the Dougherty Hull.
In 1995 the Outrage 17 changed hulls to the Accu-Track. To disginguish between the two versions of Outrage 17's, they were nicknamed the I and the II... Kind of sound like Lawrence Welk if you are old enough to remember him? :-)
I owned a 1997 17' Outrage II for about a year. Great boat, but I decided I wanted the Outrage 18 instead, pre 1992....

In 1996 the Hull changed to the Accu-Track....

whalersman- LOL. Unfortunately I am definitely old enough to remember Lawrence Welk. I was subjected to the show anytime my grandparents baby sat me as a kid. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge. I wish I knew this sight existed 3 years ago.

P.S. What do the letters RPS "Some with the standards RPS?"
posted 04-03-2003 12:37 AM ET (US)
The initials "RPS" stand for;
Reversible Pilot Seat....
The RPS was standard on many Whalers including the Montauk...
I am constantly learning more about Boston Whalers and the variations mostly from this site and the many people that share their knowledge here.
