Has anyone experienced or can compare the new 170's ride with other 17 footers, like Mako, Scout, or any other brand.

Getting Closer to a purchase.

I have a classic 17 Montauk; My son has a new 170 montauk,(latourfiveo). Clearly the 170 rides much better than the older Whaler. In addition, the 170 doesn't want to "grab" as you execute a sharp turn. when the older boat "grabs" suddenly it will tend to throw the occupants around rather violently.

Lakeman...........bite the bullet and buy the will be the best decision you ever made...........unless you have the funds to buy a 30 footer.

I may have needed that. I have fought this decision off and on for months. Have looked at your pics and still do on ocasion and have conversed with several who have downsize to this boat and love it. Wife says keep the big boat and buy the whaler until your sure you can live with a small boat. Wife said if I don't like she would keep it and call it "KNOT HIS"

Lakeman, It sounds like an opportunity to make the wife happy and become a two boat family. But you will have to rename the big boat "KNOT HERS".

HOw is the fishing down there getting close to Dolphin time. Have you been out more than 12 miles lately in rough conditions.

You could also call it "myebich" ;)
Then you will know who's boat it is! :)

I haven't been too far offshore lately. Mostly staying on the reefs and inshore until the dolphin show up. But we are catching a lot of grouper and snapper.

I did venture out in some 3-5's a couple of weeks ago, did I mention I love the way this boat handles.
