Many have seen the picture of the 16 dauntless cut in two, if not see it at whaler.com. Look at all of the room under the deck up front. This is true for most of the whalers. What if you cut out a section for a fish box? What would you guys think about this?...

What would a pounding cruise of 3 footer waves do to the structural integrity? Might depend on the size of the cut out! What do you feel would be a fair size to take? 24 " long X 18" wide X 10" deep? Who has a pre-made Fiberglass box with a solid enough cover to walk on? HC

It might work if you put a strong frame around the opening and have a strong bond between all of the deck surface to the frame. Drain? If you connect it to the bildge it you will have a mess! Don't want to this! Anyone have any ideas?

Better call BW in Edgewater! Island Marine said don't cut into the side to side beam supports... It would be interesting to see what the depth at the forward area in front of the hatch is??? HC

Maybe you could build up a plat form the same height as the anchor hatch that went back to the console. This would give the front more weight. This is a plus. Then it could drain onto the deck and not have to cutt into the deck. or maybe you could a little just for kicks! Also, the added fishing space. Just makes everything flush. You would have to redo the anchor latch but thats no biggie.
