I have enjoyed reading though the posts from Whaler owners. I am looking to join the ranks as well. I have found a 1995 Dauntless 13, at least I think. Its a center console and its 13 ft 4 inch long. I will be using her in the creeks and bays around Hilton Head. Does anyone have this model? What areas should I look for problems?? How about hoisting aboard a bigger boat; where would the strongest place to mount brackets to winch the boat aboard. This group is a great resource and I thank you in advance for your help.

I have a '94 13 Dauntless with a 50 hp Yamaha. It has more of a V shape hull than the regular 13' and so it doesnt pound as much. I love it for fishing the Deleware Bay which can get pretty choppy. It is pretty heavy and 650 pounds for just the hull. I think a 50 hp is a great match to the hull. The scuppers sit a little bit low and let some water in, I plug them up. Mine didnt plane quickly with a 16 pitch prop. I put on trim tabs and a 14 pitch prop and now it performs great. I think some people have gone down to a 12 pitch and have great results. Here is a link to the Boston Whaler web page from 1996 about the 13 Dauntless.

Lagged,
Thanks for your reply. The 13 CC will be mine tomorrow. It has a 40 hp outboard 2 stroke, 6 gallon tank, hull looks new, depth/fishfinder, full stainless rail, windshield and a full bench seat. The link you sent was helpful. Not sure if the 13 Dauntless is well thought of among the whaler group but I think it will make a neat tender, fishing and knock around boat. Hope to find more owners.

Have a good week.

Chuck

That is great news for you. You will find the 13 Dauntless great for your needs. It is rock solid and when the you know what hits the fan on the big boat, the "dinghy" may save you life. You may want to add another 6 gallon gas tank if you plan on going far.

I owned a 1995 Daunt 13 for several years. I really liked the boat. Sold it to buy the 18.

The 1995 13 has bow and stern lifting eyes built in.

I used the boat on Lake Michigan. Handles rough water great. Powered with a Yamaha 40 2 stroke, I found a significant imporvement in hole shot with the addition of a stainless prop. I imagine trim tabs would be a nice add-on.

If you get some water in through the scuppers, install a pair of rabuds. I did this and they worked great.

Enjoy!
