When putting the stock gray console cover on your 2003 Montauk 170 does anyone have to move their shifter into a forward gear in order to fit their cover? I have been doing this in order to make the cover fit better and am wondering if there are any long term adverse effects of leaving the shifter out of neutral, ie. hard starting, etc. I have the standard 2 stroke 90HP Merc. Thanks, RonB

According to the Merc manual that came with your engine it states that you may put it in forward; never in reverse. |

Thanks Jimm. Manual? Who needs manuals when I have this place? Seriously, I'll re-read that section. Thanks for the heads up. My 90HP 2S is a little head starting and I was wondering if having it tilted out of the water plus in a forward gear was somehow contributing to the hard starting. I'm planning on my first 4+ hour fishing trip so I'm just going over all my little concerns. Thanks again. Ron |

RonB, Look at this for hard starting 170's. Let me know if this helps. B... http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum8/HTML/000855.html |
