I WAS JUST AT THE LOCAL WHALER DEALER AND SAW AN 04 MONTAUK WITH THE NEW SUN TOP. THE TOP USES ALL STAINLESS BALLJOINT FITTINGS THAT LOOK LIKE THEY HAVE A QUICK RELEASE FEATURE. I ALSO NOTICED THEY ADDED A FOREWARD STRUT SUPPORT SO YOU CAN STORE THE TOP IN AN UPRIGHT POSITION WHEN CLOSED. THIS SHOULD FIX MOST OF THE PROBLEMS EVERYONE HAS STATED ABOUT THE FACTORY SUN TOP. I ALSO SAW THE NEW 72QT. COOLER SEAT MOUNT AND IT IS QUITE THE BETTER SETUP. YOU CAN REMOVE THE COOLER AND THERE IS NOTHING LEFT ON THE DECK AT ALL. ALL THE MOUNTING COMPONENTS ARE ON THE FOREWARD PART OF THE CONSOLE. IF ANYONE OUT THERE IS NOT SURE ABOUT THE SUN TOP MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE NEW FACTORY TOP BEFORE YOU ORDER YOUR NEW BOAT WITHOUT IT. I HOPE TO BE ORDERING MINE SOON!!

I looked at an '04 Montauk equiped with the factory sun top. The boat didn't have the forward seat cushion with rod-holders in it, but from the angle of the console it looked like fishing rods there would be held firmly against the forward side of the sun top. That would be okay unless the rods were to bend forward and slap back against the top while running. Rail mounted rod holders would probably be safer for the rods on a bouncy ride. The top did look very nice, though.

13Dauntless, You are right, the new suntop in my opinion is as good as the Mills. I beleive that all 04 170 Montauks come with a standard top a swim ladder and a swing tongue trailer. I like the ride, but hesitant about the price. If you add a fishing package, the price goes to about 26K? Considering that the 170 was first introduced as a low cost under 20K boat, I am not sure if the 04's would sell as the 03's did. Good luck with your purchase. Sam

I WAS AT MARINE MAX IN CLEARWATER FL AND THE 04 MONTAUK THEY HAD IN STOCK WAS THE SAME PRICE AS THE O3.THEY HAD ONE WITH A FISHING PKG., SUN TOP, AND A SWING TONGUE TRAILER AND THE BOAT WAS PRICED AT $22300.00 ISH WITH A 2 STROKE 90 SALT WATER SERIES. THE BASE BOAT IS ABOUT $19K WITH TRAILER AND DIVE PLATFORM. THE TOP IS $1000, FISHING PKG $1000, BOW CUSHON $300, AND THE FOUR STROKE IS $2200. THIS BRINGS THE COMPLETE PKG TO $21300.00 WITH A TWO STROKE AND $23500.00 FOR THE LOADED FOUR STROKE MODEL.

13Dauntless, Thanks, that seems like a reasonable deal. I'll sure give them a call in the morning. I hope I can get the service from any BW dealer here in SC even if I buy from out of state, right?
